A coalition of physicians, therapists, patients, and advocates in Illinois – led by La Shawn Ford, an ambitious state representative from Chicago – are working on a bill that would decriminalize natural, plant-derived psychedelics for personal use, as well as establish a framework for counselors, shamans, religious and spiritual healers, and others in similar categories, to use these substances ceremoniously. We’re a publication reporting on all that’s important in this growing landscape of psychedelics. Stay current by subscribing to The Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter, and get all the necessary news, as well as being first up for new and exclusive product promotions, as they start becoming available. Promising research for psychedelic therapiesAlthough discussion of using psychedelics therapeutically is a relatively new concept in modern medicine, many cultures have been utilizing entheogens medicinally and in religious rituals for thousands of years. Even in the United States and Europe, research on psychedelic compounds for the treatment of mental illnesses began to gain traction throughout the 1940s and 1950s. In 1943, Swiss-chemist Albert Hofmann first synthesized lysergic acid diethylamide and by the early 1950s, psychiatrist Humphry Osmond had already pioneered a treatment regimen using LSD to cure alcoholism and other mental disorder, with relative success might I add. Osmond is the one who coined the term psychedelic meaning ‘mind manifesting’. He also oversaw author Aldous Huxley’s infamous, therapeutic mescaline trip in 1953. Numerous psychedelic studies were in the works during that time, but all that research was derailed for social and political reasons when entheogenic compounds were banned at the start of the 1970s. Fast forward a few decades, and we are now beginning to a see a growing acceptance of these compounds, especially the naturally-derived ones, and thus, an uptick in research. One of the main areas of interest is how psychedelics can help with mental health disorders such as depression, PTSD, and addiction. The evidence suggests mystical experiences help people gain a new perspective on their issues,” said Matthew Johnson, the Susan Hill Ward professor in psychedelics and consciousness at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. “We think the long-term biological changes will be similar to those with successful psychotherapy. Essentially, the person has learned something about this problematic behavior in their life and changed their life as a result.” A preemptive billAlthough law enforcement in Illinois does not make many arrests for psychedelics like mescaline, psilocybin, or ibogaine, Ford believes it’s best to a few steps ahead of any regulatory hangups as these compounds continue to grow in popularity. “There’s no reason not to think about this right now,” Ford said. “Some people in the mental health profession are asking for a new approach. We don’t need to have another situation where people are being criminalized like they were with marijuana.” An interesting caveat about this bill is that people who lead psychedelic healing sessions will not need a medical license or any type of college degree. They will need to pass a licensing exam, however. Although some are weary about a possible lack of oversight, Psychologist Geoff Bathje of Adler University and Chicago’s Sana Healing Collective, says supports the idea, and claims the bill was written this way to ensure equity by allowing a broad range of practitioners. “People could get trained in their own community instead of going to medical school, a pathway that’s very long and expensive and makes the service expensive, too,” he said. “It can be done safely in a much less complicated way.” ![]() Numerous bills to decriminalize psilocybin in the city of Chicago have been bouncing around for years, although to no avail yet, and I’m curious to see what happens with the proposed statewide legislation. Ford said his bill could go through many revisions before it is officially introduced to the state legislature, which he plans on doing sometime next year. Middle finger to the federal governmentWhat, to me, is striking about this bill is that it aims to decriminalize only natural, plant-based entheogens, as opposed to synthetic versions which is what the government seems to be more lenient about. When we consider what has already been legalized for pharmaceutical use – like Marinol which is a synthetic version of THC, or even Esketamine, which is not replacing any natural compound, but is basically a slightly tweaked version of ketamine that has received FDA approval – we start to see a pattern. They want us using their drugs exclusively. And why wouldn’t they? The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most profitable in the United States, and they’re showering congress members with cash in the form of political lobbying and various campaign distributions. Every year, the federal government receives millions of dollars from pharmaceutical companies, and for obvious reasons, they want this relationship to continue. If the law allows us access to therapeutic plants that we can grow or extract in the comfort of our own homes, our reliance on big pharma medications would quickly dwindle. It’s been shown time and time again, that in states where cannabis is legal and easily accessible, the number of prescriptions for opiate-based pain medications drops. Same applies to medications prescribed for mental health disorders. Sadly, there’s no money in good health, and big pharma wants to keep making their money. If the bill passes as written, only legalizing plant-based psychedelics, I wonder if the state will implement some type of ban on home cultivation. Not that it would matter on a larger scale. It might stop a small percentage of people from growing these plants, but if there is anything to be learned from the cannabis industry, it’s the simple fact that when people want something, and that something is easily accessible (or in this case, easy to grow/produce), they will find a way to get it – whether it’s legal or not. Final thoughtsAgain, this bill is truly in the earliest stages. At this point, it’s barely just a thought. But, that thought behind it is incredibly unprecedented and it’ll be exciting to see how everything plays out next year after it’s finalized. Edibles have been growing wildly in popularity, going from an every-now-and-then item, to a primary way of getting high. Whether using them medically or recreationally, there’s something pretty awesome about eating your way to feeling better. And now with new methods, even better edibles can be made. When looking at both THC-infused food products AND beverages, this sector makes up just under 17% of the overall market. Food product transactions stand at 13.1% and beverage sales account for about 3.7% – totaling 16.8% of a standard dispensary’s sales. Although dosing isn’t particularly accurate with edible products, they offer many other benefits including discretion and potency. Not to mention the sheer variety of products you can find these days. One of the primary reasons that edible products are so popular is because they offer more intense, and longer-lasting effects than smoking or vaping flower. When THC is processed via the digestive system, the body breaks it down and metabolizes it in the liver, producing the cannabinoid metabolite 11-hydroxy-THC (11-OH), which is regarded as being much more potent than regular delta 9 THC. It takes longer for 11-OH to reach the brain, but once it does, the high will be much more intense and can last for a few hours, whereas smoking hits almost immediately but the effects fade after about 1 hour at the most. Learn more about this infamous stoner holiday, as well as some of our favorite products and activities to celebrate the day with. As always, the best 420 deals are reserved for the subscribers of The THC Weekly newsletter, so make sure to SUBSCRIBE today. A bit more about 11-hydroxy-THC11-hydroxy-THC is one of our naturally occurring endocannabinoids; meaning it’s made in the body. When you eat plant-based THCs, such as delta-8 or delta-9 THC, the body breaks it down and metabolizes it via the liver. 11-hydroxy-THC is a metabolite of the other tetrahydrocannabinols, and it’s much more potent. This is why delta-8 THC edibles are just as strong as delta-9 edibles, but the same can’t be said for flowers or vape products. This process is known as first pass metabolism, and it’s the reason why ingesting cannabis products orally has much more intense and long-lasting effects compared to smoking. So if you’ve been wondering why edibles get you beyond baked, this why. If you’re anything like me and many other cannabis users I’ve spoken to, edibles hit different than smoking. Even though it takes a while to feel anything, once they kick in, I’m laid out on the couch almost every time. I feel more stoned, I’m laughing at everything, and eventually, I get super tired. This seems to be commonplace when it comes to edibles; but why exactly do they differ so much from smoking, from a scientific standpoint? It comes down to two factors: the drug-metabolizing enzymes in your GI tract, and blood flow to the liver. When you first eat a cannabis edible, various enzymes in the GI tract begin digesting the food. From that point, blood flow from the GI tract goes through the liver where all these enzymes are metabolized, then the blood continues to general circulation. When the metabolites are formed, that’s when you get the effects of 11-hydroxy-THC. However, when you smoke cannabis, THC is absorbed through the lungs and distributed directly into the bloodstream. The active compounds make their way to the brain where they interact with the CB receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system. In this scenario, you are feeling the effects of the phytocannabinoids (plant-cannabinoids) themselves, rather than the compound formed during metabolism. 4/20 edibles dealsHigh Potency THC-O Gummies Bundle – Only $25 each!(Using the ‘Binoid420’ coupon code) Want to save big on THC-O gummies? The post Fun 4/20 Deals – Let’s Talk About Edibles appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/04/17/fun-4-20-deals-lets-talk-about-edibles/ It’s that time of year again. The time when we talk about rabbits laying eggs of chocolate, marshmallow peeps, and somewhere in there, the celebration of Jesus Christ rising from the grave. Of course, like many holidays, though Easter certainly holds its religious aspect, it’s also become a time of fun and games to be enjoyed by all. This year, the fun doesn’t have to be for children only. With some awesome products, ideas, and a little bit of initiative, you can turn this year into the best Easter for adults ever! Who said Easter fun can’t be for adults? There are plenty of adult-style ways of enjoying the holiday, so check out these options for a super high, super happy, celebration. We’re all over the world of cannabis, with news and fun stories everyday, which you can keep up with by subscribing to THC Weekly Newsletter. You’ll also get direct access to deals on vapes, edibles, and other cannabis smoking paraphernalia, along with offers for cannabinoid compounds like HHC-O, Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP & HHC, which are in our “Best-of” lists. Please remember.. *cannabinoid products are not everyone’s cup of tea, and we advise that no one use a product that they are uncomfortable with. Rabbits and eggs and Jesus, oh my!Without getting too deep with it, Easter – aka Resurrection Day, is a Christian celebration of Jesus Christ resurrecting from the dead. According to the New Testament, this happened specifically on the third day after his crucifixion and burial, which occurred in 30 AD. Easter is considered a ‘moveable feast’ because its not actually on a specific day (more like the Hebrew calendar), and therefore is not like other holidays which occur yearly on the same day. To be perfectly honest, I’m still stumped by the Easter bunny. Sure, its happy and fun, but the relevance? Apparently the fuzzy creature first made an appearance when German immigrants brought the story with them to America, calling it “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.”. Painting eggs, however, goes back further, to around the 13th century, which is also confusing, considering the eggs don’t make sense without the Easter bunny to lay them (funny sentence!) Of course, it is quite possible that the egg-laying hare of German folklore, was invented to explain the egg painting tradition already in use. There are no confirmed answers to these questions, and in the end, we’re simply left to celebrate the holiday with bunnies and eggs. ![]() Regardless of the exact story, it has become tradition for children to run around finding hidden eggs in what’s called an ‘Easter egg hunt’. These eggs can be real eggs, painted in different – generally bright – colors. Or fake eggs filled with chocolate or other sweets inside. Prizes are often given at the end of the hunt for the child who collected the most eggs, or whoever has the biggest egg, or for whatever other metric is used for ‘winning’. Easter for adultsNo one ever said that Easter fun is only for children, and in fact, we’ve got some great ideas for the adults this year. First and foremost, it’s good to remember that quality cannabis products with THC are not sold nationally, as state regulation doesn’t allow for this. Which means if you want a little infusion in your Easter egg candy, it might be best to make your own! This can be done with chocolates, and even with gummies. In fact, all you need for some pretty cool infused bunnies or egg gummies, are some molds in the desired shape. Molds are especially useful if you’re throwing an Easter party with a decent-size guest list and want treats for your attendees, or to put them out for a large Easter egg hunt. Customizable molds are available for bigger events, while simple cookie cutters can be used on the fly for a small party or hunt. And if you’re thinking that creating gummies is an arduous task, best left to the professionals, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find out that making gummies yourself in your very own kitchen, is actually rather easy with these DIY gummy recipes. When you do it yourself, you get to decide exactly how strong they’ll be, what flavor, and can control for what ingredients are put in. Plus, who doesn’t want to have a little Easter gummy fun in the kitchen?! This same idea is used for chocolates and brownies as well. First, make sure you have a recipe that you’re happy with, and the correct amount of weed, and ancillary tools and ingredients. Then something as simple as a bunny cookie cutter, and your home-made edibles are perfect for Easter. These DIY CBD sweets recipes can be used to make all kinds of weed treats, whether using CBD, or replacing it with cannabis oil. Easter for adults specialtiesThe standard of an Easter egg hunt is to give some prizes at the end, as well as the hunt itself providing little gifts within the eggs. Well, same can be said for an Easter egg hunt for adults, with, perhaps, some more adult-related prizes and gifts. You can keep it simple with a nice joint or blunt at the end, and maybe a quality bud inside, or a bunny gummy. Or, you can go even higher class than that. ![]() Like, with cannabis cigars, or cannagars. Many of these products use delta-8 THC, which means they are sold throughout the country, and you can order them online. This is unlike other cannabis products containing THC, which are only sold in specific states. Some will even ship to states where recreational cannabis is illegal, making it a top choice for people in those locations, who want to buy cannabis products. Cannagars bring an elevated level of class, and make for a perfect top prize for any adult Easter egg hunt. The great thing about prizes is that they can be whatever you want them to be, and they can be arranged with the guests in mind to ensure a happy group at the end. Maybe its an edible, maybe it’s a vape cart, maybe its a cannagar. Maybe its just a nice munchie food to sooth the weed hunger. Adult Easter treatsAs stated, most THC products are only sold locally, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great inventions out there. For one thing, many cannagars will ship throughout the country. However, if you’re in Canada this Easter, check out Slo Mo’s Slow Mo Surprise Chocolate Egg ($19.95), with 40mg of THC. Made with delicious Belgian chocolate, these artisanal chocolate Easter eggs contain either 1g Cannabis, 0.5g Shatter, or 1g Hash, and are packaged in shiny Easter-style packaging. Sounds like the perfect Easter egg, huh? If you’re in Arizona, you also have a pretty sweet deal this year. Haze Cannabis Company partnered with Oasis Cannabis to bring you an Easter egg hunt for adults of a different kind. To celebrate the holiday, the company put special prizes in five randomly picked cured & live Haze concentrate boxes. Four boxes had golden eggs, and one had a special purple Haze egg. All eggs are redeemable for special prizes, and entrance was made with the purchase of a gram of Haze live resin badder, sugar wax, or crumble. If you opened one of these boxes and are confused about the egg inside, go to the dispensary during April 14-20th to redeem your prize! Last, maybe you’re looking to get festive with your clothing, and want to mix a little weed in with your general Easter style. Etsy has a ton of options for how to dress your best for the holiday, marijuana style, with everything from sexy canna-Easter underwear, to shirts, to sweatshirts, leggings, and more. DIY Easter egg recipesLet’s say you want to do some Easter baking this Easter, but you don’t want a standard recipe for brownies, and you’re not into gummies. In fact, maybe you want the real deal, a cannabis-infused Easter egg. Unfortunately, we’re not yet at the point where your local grocery store carries such products, but there are some pretty interesting recipes to try out this year. ![]() The great thing about cannabis-infused butter (cannabutter) is that it can replace butter in pretty much any recipe, making for a great way to make infused baked goods, including Easter eggs. Like this recipe for cream filled chocolate Easter eggs, which includes just a few ingredients, along with ½ cup cannabutter. These creamy chocolate covered eggs don’t take too long to make, and rival even a Cadbury Creme Egg, while giving you a very sweet buzz. Want it even easier with less ingredients? You can literally bring it down to just cannabutter and chocolate with this super simple recipe for cannabis Easter eggs, which requires just ¼ cup cannabutter, and one cup of chocolate. The end result? Super delicious chocolate eggs that take almost no time to make, and which leave you feeling high enough to think that Easter bunnies actually exist! ConclusionEaster fun isn’t just for kids, but sometimes, you have to do a little extra work to make it fun for adults. From Easter egg hunts for adults with adult-themed prizes and edibles, to baking recipes, store promotions, customized gummies, and the proper fashion etiquette, you can make this Easter all about non-child activities, that leave you sky high and hippoty, hoppity, happy. The post Easter for Adults appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/04/17/easter-for-adults/ As a cannabis journalist I do have the pleasure of trying a variety of cannabis products. These can vary from edibles, tinctures, cartridges, vapes, papers, lube and much much more. However, it has to be said, being from and living in London does not always make this the easiest of ordeals. Unless the specific products contain less than 0.3% THC then it is going to be more difficult to get a hold of in the UK. Nonetheless, I do try my fair share of products and every so often I want to aim to shine a light on the best product I’ve tried. Today, I want to shine a light on Nectar Medical Vapes’ cartridge vaporizer: the Honeybee. This product has been nothing short of a life-saver for myself and my girlfriend and here’s why. For more articles like this one, and exclusive deals on vapes, edibles, tinctures, and more, make sure to subscribe to The THC Weekly Newsletter! We’ve also got great deals on cannabinoids like HHC-O, Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP & HHC , which you can find by checking out our “Best-of” lists! Laws in the UKVaporizers – be they for cannabis or tobacco, dry of carts – are legal in the UK. Of course, this is no surprise. Why would an electronic device that doesn’t contain any substances be illegal? Whilst vaporizers are legal to purchase and sell in the UK, much like the rest of the world, the substances that go in them are not. To be specific, any product that contains more than 0.2% THC is illegal in the UK. Not only that, but CBD flowers or buds are also illegal. This is another example of a confusing law made by the UK. Despite the fact that CBD is a legal cannabinoid, CBD buds are banned. Kloris writes: “While these regulations do allow for CBD purchases, the problem lies in the fact that stalk, seeds, and fibre of hemp contain very little CBD when compared to the cannabinoid-rich plant flowers and leaves…because CBD flower comes from a prohibited part of hemp plants, even though it may contain no more than 0.2% THC, it can’t legally be sold.” That being said, medical cannabis is legal in the UK. Therefore, if you’re able to receive a prescription, it’s likely that you’ll be able to access both CBD and THC cannabis to use as medication. However, the National Health Service does not currently offer any viable prescription services for cannabis medicines. In addition, for those specialist doctors that do offer cannabis prescriptions, the prices are often so extortionate that it makes it an impossible option. This means that there are around 1.4 million people in the UK who are forced to find cannabis illegally – through street dealers and the dark web – in order to access their much-needed medication. The issue is, this can put these people at risk of receiving fines and prosecutions. But, fortunately, it does seem that the UK police are beginning to become more lenient towards people with small amounts of cannabis. CBD Sloth writes: “If you have a very small quantity, which broadly means less than an ounce (28g), then the police will normally accept it is just for personal use and will issue with a warning and potentially an on-the-spot fine.” I know what you’re thinking. UK cannabis laws are confusing. You’re not wrong. That’s what makes Nectar Medical Vapes such an interesting company. They sell a product that is technically legal, but the substances that go inside it are not. Before we learn more about them and their product the Nectar Hive – which I love – let’s first understand better what a vaporizer actually is. What is a Vaporizer?A vaporizer is an electronic device that heats up tobacco or cannabis buds or carts and turns them into vapour, which can then be inhaled. Vaporizers came about and have gained popularity as a replacement for smoking. When you light a cigarette or a joint you release dangerous and cancerous carcinogens through the process of combustion, this can be highly damaging for the body. However, vaping avoids the process of combustion. That’s not to say that vaping is 100% healthy, but it does avoid those specific smoking problems. Hopkins Medicine writes: “E-cigarettes heat nicotine (extracted from tobacco), flavorings and other chemicals to create an aerosol that you inhale. Regular tobacco cigarettes contain 7,000 chemicals, many of which are toxic” Cannabis vapes come in basic two forms: the dry herb vaporizer and the cartridge vaporizer. Dry herb vapes have an oven chamber where the buds are placed and heated up to be inhaled. Cartridge vapes have a battery, which attaches to small cartridges and heats them up. These cartridges can be filled up with a variety of cannabis oils. Cartridge vapes tend to be more popular in countries that have legalized cannabis and have a proper cartridge industry. In the UK, it’s harder to get ahold of decent THC oil. However, despite the fact this product comes from the UK, for me, the Nectar Hive is worth shouting about. Nectar Medical VapesNectar Medical Vapes are one of the UK’s leading cannabis vaporizer companies. They sell an impressive selection of dry herb vaporizers, and are now beginning to release their cartridge vapes too. Not only that, they also sell several rosin presses and CBD cream and edibles. As a company, Nectar is ahead of their time – trying to push for a world where cannabis in the UK is fully legal. Of course, in the US, cannabis is legal in the majority of states and – as such – the vaporizer industry is booming. In the US, cannabis vapes are a hugely successful market. In fact, in 2020 Million Insights reported that the cannabis vaporizer market was worth 9.9 billion, and was expected to grow by 6% every year from 2021 to 2028. In the UK, there isn’t really much of a cannabis vape market yet. Therefore, Nectar is competing with the US market with their products. Yet they don’t disappoint. The HoneybeeThe Nectar Honeybee cartridge vaporizer is my product of the month because it is easy to use, and has a simple yet slick design. I’ve tried my fair share of vaporizers and this product is at the top. The Honeybee has a 1ml capacity, a reliable 800mAh battery life and a very cool-looking LED design. It has a magnetic attachment to the cartridge and also vibrates and lights up when you connect it to the device. In other words, it’s totally awesome. ![]() The Honeybee vaporizer is unique because it originates from a country where discreteness is key. Unlike in the US, where large clouds and industrial-sized vapes are popular, in the UK it’s the complete opposite. Vaporizers cannot be obvious in their design. This means that the vape design needs to be slick and not draw attention to itself. That’s what I love about the Nectar Honeybee. It doesn’t scream ‘cannabis’ as you inhale. It does it’s job and it’s modest about it. Nectar write: “The Honeybee was designed to be discreet, compact, reliable and most importantly; efficient, both in terms of battery life and oil usage” The vaporizer allows for any cannabis oils and also comes with a few replacement cartridges in case you lose yours or need to replace them. In addition, Nectar offers a 2 year warranty and 24/7 customer support. It’s evident that they care, not only about their customers but also for their products. I often message the CEO of Nectar, Mario, about the product. I ask for advice or tips on how to get the most out of the vaporizer – he’s always happy to answer questions. I first bought the vaporizer as a gift for my girlfriend who was suffering from some pains. She wanted to avoid using opioids, and instead use cannabis. I’d heard of Nectar and decided on the Honeybee as I knew that cartridge vaporizers were something I hadn’t tried as much. Also, the product was only £30.00. For a reliable, slick and quality vaporizer – that price is an absolute steal. Myself and my girlfriend both loved it. ConclusionIf you’re a vaporizer lover who wants to try something born and bred in the UK… the Honeybee is definitely worth a purchase. For me, it’s the best vape I’ve tried in a while and it hasn’t let me down yet. It’s deservedly my product of the month for April 2022. Thanks for stopping by out little site! The post My Product of the Month: Nectar Honeybee Vaporizer appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/04/16/product-of-the-month-nectar-honeybee-vaporizer/ Migraine is a painful and disruptive condition. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) says 5.6% of men and a staggering 17.1% of women experience migraines. For most people, episodes are occasional. But a small percentage live with these intense headaches almost daily. Migraines also lead to other complications. According to the American Migraine Foundation, these headaches dramatically impact the daily lives of chronic migraine patients – individuals who deal with migraine headaches for at least 15 days per month. Thankfully, chronic migraine only affects about 1% of the U.S. population. But for that 1%, the condition brings a slew of other complications, like depression and anxiety. This condition inevitably leads to lost work (and income) or missing school, dramatically restricting patients’ daily lives. CBD oil for migraine headaches has gained traction since the first supplements hit the market. Prescription solutions are available with drugs like NSAIDs, but these often come with side effects that only compound the existing problem. How CBD oil helps (if at all) is still unclear. However, preliminary evidence and mounds of anecdotes paint a hopeful picture. So does CBD oil help relieve or control chronic migraine? Let’s take a look. How CBD May Help Treat MigrainesStudies on CBD oil for migraines are virtually non-existent. Ironically, the largest body of evidence long predates the scientific method. Cannabis has been a standard treatment for headaches for thousands of years. What little modern research we have focuses either on THC or a combination of THC and CBD. Therefore, we can only infer how – if at all – CBD alone might help. But it’s not all doom and gloom. We may not have much research specifically addressing CBD and migraine headaches, but many of the symptoms or triggers – like stress and pain – have received a lot of mainstream attention. How CBD WorksBefore addressing the potential medical benefits, it’s essential to understand how CBD works. Our bodies rely on a specialized network of receptors and endocannabinoids – cannabinoids produced inside the body. External cannabinoids (called “phytocannabinoids”) like THC and CBD interact or affect specific endocannabinoid system (ECS) receptors, labeled as CB1 and CB2. The former primarily exists in the central nervous system, while the latter is mainly concentrated elsewhere, including the immune, digestive, reproductive, and musculoskeletal systems. Some cannabinoids, like THC, bind to both receptors, while others bind to one or the other in varying degrees. CBD, however, doesn’t have an affinity for the CB1 or CB2. Instead, it works through different receptor pathways, such as the serotonin, GABA, and TRPV1 (vanilloid) receptors – among others. Although those receptors aren’t part of the ECS, they still modulate several functions, including mood and pain – two key triggers and symptoms in migraine patients. Interestingly, CBD still impacts the CB1 and CB2 receptors. But rather than just binding directly, it alters their shape through the pathways we just covered. This restructuring affects how CB1 and CB2 interact with endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids. For instance, when CBD changes the CB1 receptors, it mutes their ability to bind with THC. As a result, taking CBD with THC helps reduce the duration and intensity of a “high.” CBD can also be an effective countermeasure against the effects of THC, should you accidentally consume too much. CBD’s effects on different receptor pathways and cannabinoids could hold the key to naturally treating migraine headaches and other headache disorders without psychoactive properties. What Studies Say About CBD and MigrainesAgain, few studies exist on CBD oil for migraines. More research is desperately needed on high-quality CBD oil products before healthcare professionals recommend them for migraine attacks or chronic migraine pain. One piece of considerable research is a 2018 study by Hitchcock et al. from the University of Colorado, Boulder. This online survey-based study looked at 589 participants referred to as “migraineurs.” Based on their responses, 161 suffered from chronic migraine attacks, some of whom had a daily migraine headache frequency. Of those migraine patients, 76% say they use cannabis specifically for migraine pain. However, 86% also used prescription drugs to control their conditions. However, the performance of conventional drugs showed surprising results compared to the balanced medical marijuana used in the study. A staggering 75.82% said that cannabis offered better migraine pain relief than regular medicine. However, keep in mind that the study in question involved strains containing CBD and THC, making it difficult for us to say if CBD, THC, or both were a factor. A 2017 study by the 3rd Congress of the European Academy of Neurology also looked at CBD’s potential effects on migraine and cluster headaches. Researchers chose oils with either a balanced ratio of THC and CBD or 9% CBD with no THC. Participants reported better results with the balanced CBD oil than with its THC-free counterpart. Participants also used amitriptyline – a mood stabilizer that also helps treat migraine – and compared its efficacy with cannabis. The results were nearly 50/50, with 40.1% reporting a better reduction in migraine attacks from amitriptyline and 40.4% favoring cannabis. Additionally, candidates reported a 43.4% reduction in migraine pain intensity with cannabis. Is CBD Effective for Migraine Prophylaxis?CBD may be effective for migraine prophylaxis. “Prophylaxis” refers to the daily administration of drugs or other compounds to control a condition or symptom(s). When it comes to health, prevention is always the best approach. Whether it’s CBD oil or prescription drugs, there are potential ways to stop or reduce the frequency of migraine episodes. As we saw in the 2017 study earlier, CBD oil or other oral forms of CBD could reduce migraine headache pain and frequency. A 2018 survey study published in the academic journal Cephalalgia revealed similar results. The survey involved 105 subjects. Out of those, 15 reported having chronic pain from daily migraine headaches. However, by the end of the 30-day study, five of the 15 patients said they were no longer experiencing daily headaches – a 33% drop. Unfortunately, we lack large-scale studies on CBD and migraine prophylaxis. But based on what we see so far, there may be potential. What Experts SayInitially, the medical community was rather hostile to cannabis. It still is in many respects. But while THC is still controversial for most doctors, health professionals seem more receptive to CBD. Granted, there will always be naysayers out there, but the following experts are – as expected – cautiously optimistic. Dr. Stephen Silberstein is the director of the Headache Center at Jefferson University Hospital. He’s one of many specialists who took an interest in the potential for CBD to relieve migraine headaches in chronic migraine sufferers. In an interview with the American Headache Society, Silberstein admits that we don’t have a lot of evidence whether full-spectrum CBD oil, CBD isolate, or any other form of medical cannabis work for migraine pain. “There is very little evidence that any of the components of marijuana are effective for the treatment of migraine and headache disorders,” he says. “That does not mean they do not work, however. What it means is that they have not been studied.” Dr. Nathaniel Schuster is another expert taking an active role in CBD research for migraine treatment. As a neurologist specializing in headache and pain at UC San Diego, he’s currently recruiting participants for an upcoming study of vaped CBD on migraine pain. The study is expected to be complete by November of 2023. One of our writers had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Schuster in 2019. Schuster initially became interested when working with children who used CBD to treat severe epilepsy. However, Dr. Schuster suggests vaping. Admittedly, the effects are virtually immediate but last a fraction of the time compared to CBD oil. Schuster also mentions that migraines slow digestion, which could impact the efficacy of oral CBD. Regardless, many patients swear by the effects of CBD oils for migraine. As for his opinion on CBD, Dr. Schuster echoes Dr. Silberstein’s cautious approach. “The medical evidence for CBD, outside of two rare pediatric epilepsy disorders, is sparse,” he warns. “So some people are surely using CBD for medical conditions for which future research studies will show that CBD is no better than placebo.” Schuster is also concerned about CBD being marketed as a “cure-all,” especially by companies who (illegally) push that narrative. CBD’s reportedly effective treatment for migraine, chronic pain, muscle pain, mood, digestion, nausea, and immune support – among many others – isn’t fully backed by peer-reviewed studies or other cannabis science (yet). Ultimately, if we could sum up the medical community’s answer to “does CBD work for migraine,” the answer is a resounding “maybe.” What Patients Who Take CBD Oil for Migraines SayPeer-reviewed studies may not be easy to find, but there’s an endless amount of anecdotes to at least partially compensate. Keep in mind that “hemp”-derived CBD products or “marijuana”-derived CBD products are still a mystery, so speak with your healthcare provider before using cannabis plant products. Now, let’s hear about CBD straight from the source. According to “Glen” – a participant in the 2018 survey study we mentioned earlier – CBD helped him reduce his dependence on prescription medication and provided excellent results for pain control: “What a change CBD oil has made: no more carbamazepine or hydrocodone, and only half the gabapentin—and far better pain control. Pain breakthroughs still happen, but another squirt of [CBD oil], and the pain is gone within 15 minutes. I have no side effects.” Another participant, who preferred to remain anonymous, also provided positive feedback: “[CBD] has significantly helped with my chronic migraines. If taken at onset, I can rely on it to take the edge off relatively quickly.” How to Use CBD Oil for Migraines? It’s easy to use CBD oil for migraines. But first, you need to find high-quality CBD oil from a reputable vendor. Find a source that uses naturally-grown industrial hemp, has a solid online presence, and conducts third-party tests with their results readily available. How much CBD to Take for Migraines?A significant downside to dosing CBD is that – at least for now – there’s no official formula. Everyone’s body is different and will respond differently to CBD. Some may require a low dose, others need more, while a percentage may not feel affected. But when you begin, it’s imperative to follow the “start low and go slow” approach. Begin with around 2-5 mg of CBD and gradually increase as needed over several days. Eventually, you’ll notice the effects, at which point you should stay at that dose. It’s possible to develop a tolerance, though, so you may need to increase later. Also, consider that CBD may take time to build up in your system, so it may take days or even weeks to notice results – even at the correct dose. Can CBD Help Mitigate Other Headaches?CBD could help mitigate other headaches. CBD’s ability to relieve pain is well-supported by preliminary and anecdotal evidence. If nonprescription CBD products work as migraine treatments, it’s not a stretch to assume other headaches may respond similarly. Only more research will tell us if CBD is an effective treatment for migraine or other headaches. Can CBD Get You High? No, CBD can’t get you high. Unlike THC, CBD has no intoxicating properties. This difference makes CBD oils particularly appealing to migraine patients, especially since some think it outperforms prescription medications. The most significant advantage of CBD is that its non-psychotropic effects mean individuals can medicate at any time and still carry out daily functions, like driving and working. For more information on the overall CBD experience, check out our comprehensive article about what CBD feels like. Does CBD Have Side Effects?Yes, CBD does have side effects. Fortunately, they’re rare and mild. Consumers who use CBD may notice the following side effects:
In some cases, CBD may affect the liver’s ability to metabolize certain medications. Drugs that can’t be consumed with grapefruit (as per the warning labels) should not be mixed with CBD. Many medications may experience this issue with cannabidiol, so you must consult with your healthcare professional about CBD, especially if you use prescription drugs. Summary: CBD for MigrainesCBD oil or other medical marijuana variations have a long history of treating headaches and other symptoms. The fact that this medical practice survived thousands of years is a testimony to cannabis’ exceptional potential healing properties. But the modern standard of evidence is a lot stricter than our ancestors, and the sad thing is that we don’t have much – if anything – to meet that required standard. Consequently, it’s impossible to safely say CBD oil can help treat migraines. Only peer-reviewed studies and other research will tell us for sure. Thankfully – as we saw – there is research in the works. And while it may be some time before these new studies are published, it’s still better late than never. SourcesAmerican Headache Society. The post Does CBD Oil Treat Migraines? Benefits, Dosage, Side Effects appeared first on Colorado Botanicals. via Colorado Botanicals https://cobocbd.com/cbd-oil-for-migraines/ Aside from being productive and profitable, it’s increasingly common for successful businesses to strive for sustainability. And I don’t mean financial sustainability, but rather, they are looking for eco-friendly ways to run their companies. As we continue to see the expansion of residential and commercial areas, and the growth of production, manufacturing, and agriculture, it should come as no surprise that many of our natural spaces and resources are experiencing a sharp decline. Sustainability can have slightly varying meanings based on the context in which it’s used, but in the broadest sense, it refers to how well something maintains itself over a longer period of time. Regarding businesses, there are many physical, geographical, environmental, and social limitations when it comes to formulating a culture of sustainability. As such, there are three main pillars to consider when making your plan: the economy, the environment, and society as a whole, also casually known as “profit, people and planet”. Initially, only a small number of self-proclaimed “green” brands prioritized sustainability efforts, but over the last decade we have seen a growing number of companies that are treating this as an important objective to help boost their global competitiveness. Much like hemp being used in everything from textiles, to building materials, to soil phytoremediation – mushroom mycelium composites are emerging as a class of mediums that are affordable, easy to produce, environmentally sustainable, and they can be utilized by a huge range of industries. Although we’re only just beginning to realize the true potential of this incredibly versatile product, researchers have already found that it can be used to create stronger, lighter, fire-resistant building materials such as brick, textiles like leather, various food products such as imitation meat, biofuels, medications, and several other items we use in in our day-to-day lives. With so many industries in desperate need of more natural and sustainable solutions, fungal mycelium offers a world of endless possibilities. We’re a publication reporting on all that’s important in this growing landscape of psychedelics. Stay current by subscribing to The Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter, and get all the necessary news, as well as being first up for new product promotions, as they start coming out. What is mycelium?First and foremost, mycelium, or the mycelium network, is not exclusive to mushrooms. It’s found in most fungi and bacterial colonies. If you look at how mycelium forms, it almost resembles the tree of life, with long, thin filaments branching from a central “stem”. Individually, they are called hyphae, and collectively they are known as the mycelium. Each fungal spore produces a mycelium, which is not capable of sexually reproducing until it finds another compatible mycelium. When two compatible mycelium connect, they form a dikaryotic mycelium, which can in turn produce a mushroom. Most mycelia are found underground, but they are also present near the roots of various plants and around rotting wood. They have an incredibly important role in their ecosystem as a means for communication between various plants and organisms. As a matter of fact, roughly 92 percent of plants have a symbiotic relationship with these organisms, known as a mycorrhiza. The word “mycorrhiza” can be broken down into the Greek root words “mukès rhiza”, meaning “fungus root”. Not all fungi form mycorrhizal relationships. Some saprophyte and parasitic mycelium exist, which scavenge for food and or absorb it from a living host. However, in a standard mycorrhizal connection, the fungus helps the plant absorb water and nutrients from the soil, while the plant provides the fungus with sugar from photosynthesis. Additionally, the fungi act as a defense mechanism for the plant, helping to shield it from pathogens as well as helping the plant more quickly trigger its own self-defense mechanisms. ![]() Mycorrhiza fungi can grow either around the outside of the plant’s roots (ectomycorrhiza), or inside them (endomycorrhiza). Plants depend on these interactions with mycorrhizal fungi, and studies have shown that if the mycorrhiza is damaged or removed from the plant, its health, growth, and yields will likely be hindered. Earth-friendly building materialsMycelium composites can be used to produced low-cost, eco-friendly building materials that will make many sectors of the construction industry less dependent on fossil fuels and other materials that are more difficult to manufacture. These composites can be formed into bricks, and they’re easily made by growing mycelium on agricultural waste. A handful of innovative companies are showing interest, such as Ecovative Design that made headlines back in 2014 when they used mycelium-based mediums to build a compostable tower at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Another company, Redhouse Architecture, said it can essentially recycle old, dilapidated houses by demolishing the structures and mixing the rubble with mycelium to form a new home-building material. This process is referred to as ‘biocycling’, Mycelium composites have low thermal conductivity, high acoustic absorption rates, and superior fire safety properties. Not only that, but they can take on many different forms and are highly customizable. As such, mycelium can be used to replace a number of different products such as foams, timbers, insulation, door cores, paneling, flooring, cabinetry, and much more. Sustainable textiles and clothingThe fashion industry is one of the world’s most polluting, right up there with oil and agriculture. Research has found that the fashion sector consumes a substantial amount of water and produces roughly 10 percent of global emissions. The demand for low-priced clothing that are made at rapid speeds means that these clothes that quickly break down and they need to be mass produced from oil-based textiles. This has only exacerbated the problem, as these methods are not sustainable in the long run. Not only is the production of these items an issue, but so is their disposable. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Americans were throwing around 1,700 tons of textiles into landfills. By 2017, the number spiked tenfold to 11,150 tons. To reduce their carbon footprint, more brands are exploring greener alternatives. Fabric harvested from mushroom mycelium cells is very similar to leather, and it’s a great alternative for both traditional leather and polyester-based vegan leather that can be used to make clothing, shoes, and various accessories. MycoremediationOne of the qualities I find most fascinating about two of my favorite plants, cannabis and mushrooms, is that both can be used to detoxify their surrounding environments. With cannabis it’s called phytoremediation, and with mushrooms is mycoremediation, but they both fall under the larger umbrella of bioremediation, which is a method of removing pollutants and contaminants from the earth using natural sources. ![]() The way it works with mycelium is based on the how it digests nutrients. While most living organisms ingest food sources and then break it down inside their bodies, mycelium does it the other way around by excreting a substance, similar to stomach acid, into their environments that breaks down nutrients before consumption. Because hyphae basically pre-digest their food before eating it, they also inadvertently eliminate contaminants that are otherwise not biodegradable including but not limited to: heavy metals, organic pollutants, textile dyes, leather tanning chemicals and wastewater, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, pesticides and herbicides, and petroleum-based products. These techniques could be applied to land, fresh water, and ocean/marine environments, and mycelium is known to facilitate new growth after cleansing these areas. Biodegradable packagingOne of the most notable dangers to the environment, and possibly to human health, is plastic. As of 2018, over 40 percent of packaging is made from single-use plastic, meaning it’s used just once and then discarded. Plastics contain and leach hazardous chemicals, including endocrine disrupting chemicals which can interfere with our hormonal function and cause numerous different illnesses. Add to that, the majority of plastic waste is not recycled. It piles up in landfills and those same chemicals that seep into our bodies are also polluting the environment. Much of this is attributable to Styrofoam. By volume, Styrofoam products take up roughly 30 percent of global landfill space. Styrofoam is a petrochemical that is known to cause immunological, renal, hematological, and developmental disorders. It’s also extremely difficult to recycle, it takes about 500 years to degrade, and when exposed to heat and sunlight, it creates harmful pollutants that circulate through the atmosphere. One of the more popular alternative uses for mycelium these days is to make custom-molded packaging that replaces standard Styrofoam. Combining mushroom mycelium with hemp hurds, manufacturers are able to produce insulated, biodegradable, waterproof materials that compost in just a few weeks. It looks and functions almost exactly like Styrofoam while reducing our over-reliance on polystyrene plastic, and it degrades naturally after its intended lifecycle. Final thoughtsFor industries aiming to be more eco-friendly, the time to make a plan and lock in sustainable long-term solutions is right now. There are a couple of important things to keep in mind when considering natural alternatives for existing products, however. First, despite showing a lot of promise as a material that’s easy and affordable to produce, it needs to be just as convenient to use, if not more so, than what is currently being used. Companies can promise to ‘go-green’ all they want, but we know that won’t happen if it isn’t profitable for them. Another thing to consider is that all of these natural, sustainable compounds that have the ability to replace so many existing materials, are in direct opposition with some massive and extremely well-established industries – like oil. It’s the main reason cannabis is still not legal, and it’s why we can expect the mushroom industry, as a whole, will face some resistance. Regardless, we know the potential is there and the space for natural alternatives is growing daily, both as consumables and manufactured products. Even if companies aren’t particularly interested in changing their ways, a rise in consumer demand will force them to think otherwise. Hello and welcome! The post Building a Better World with Mushroom Mycelium appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/04/15/building-a-better-world-with-mushroom-mycelium/ Without a uniform federal system, it can often be difficult to get hard numbers to paint an actual portrayal of data in the cannabinoids industry, particularly related to sales. Different publications produce their own numbers based on different metrics, but there are holes where a lot of data should be. One metric of late comes from kush.com, and seeks to answer the question of what hemp products its consumers search for most. What hemp products do people search for most? Well, we have no formal answer to that, but kush.com pulled together some data from its site to show us what its customers are searching for. Is it helpful? You be the judge! What is kush.comBefore getting into what information was released, best to have an idea of who released it. The company kush.com specializes in supply chain solutions that alleviate risk and compliance issues for all transactions. According to the company, over 6,000 professionals currently use its service. “Kush builds bridges between producers, processors and retailers with a carefully curated network of verified and vetted buyers and sellers.” Aside from that, kush.com’s main purpose is as a standard marketplace, which sells CBD products, ‘hemp-derived’ products, and other cannabis products. Kush.com goes by the standard industry line in terms of its products’ legality. It says that all products are federally compliant by being hemp-derived and having less than .3% THC. However, as we’ve gone over in many posts, none of these products are made without synthetization, meaning they are illegal, as has been backed up by the DEA. Shopify already banned such products a couple months ago, likely at the behest of the US government, in an effort to curb an industry it otherwise has no control over. While kush.com doesn’t seem to be pulling shadier tactics, like using brand names of other companies to sell products, or putting dispensary logos on products, it is wholly part of what is already a questionable industry. ![]() As such, all information coming from them should be taken with a grain of salt. However, even salty information is sometimes best if nothing else exists. The following is kush.com’s breakdown of what hemp products people search for most on its site. Maybe it’s not the information we technically want the most, but its the crumb that’s been dropped down to us for now. What did kush.com do?According to kush.com, it collected sales data from thousands of customers to see what they’re searching for, which included 200,000 search results. The searches come from the last few months, with nothing more said about time frames. All searches are the result of people looking for products directly on the company site, and the results do not include standard Google searches. Therefore, this metric is only related to kush.com directly. This is also not sales data, just to be clear. None of what’s to follow indicates a direct sale, so if sales were put up against searches, it could show some very different information. These are only search results, and though they may show interest in a product, they are not indicative of company revenue. Last thing to know is that kush.com was specifically looking at searches for different Hemp Finished Goods. ‘Hemp Finished Goods’ relates to products that come from hemp, and in this case, can mean all products from vapes to oils to edibles to lotions, and so on. What hemp products do people search for most?Kush.com’s search results show that the most searched for hemp products are vapes, with 28.7% of searches relating to these items. Second up was edible candy, which accounted for 18.1% of searches. Dabs and concentrates took the third spot for most searched-for hemp items, with 13.1% of searches, and packaged flowers found themselves in fourth place with 10.6% of searches pointed in that direction. The rest of the search results go as follows: 9.8% for pre-rolls, 5.2% for tinctures, 4.6% for drinks, 3.3% for lotions, 3% for edibles, 2.3% for capsules and tablets, .8% for pet treats, and .6% for bath bombs. It should be noticed that many of the categories overlap. For example, edibles got 3%, but drinks got 4.6% and candy got 18.1%, which equal 22.7% together. Or you can put together flowers and pre-rolls for 20.4% of search results. ![]() Vapes, edibles (particularly candy), and flowers were the most searched for finished hemp products on kush.com’s site. If nothing else, vendors on kush.com can use this to determine the best way to list products. After all, if selling infused chocolates, it looks like more people will search under ‘candy’ than ‘edibles’, making it easier to get to consumers by listing the product as ‘candy’. It bears repeating, this has nothing to do with sales information, and though the data could be similar, searches don’t predict sales. It could be that kush.com had its highest sales in flowers, not in vapes. Or that only 1% of clients went on to buy a tincture, though over 5% of search results indicate interest. If kush.com had released accompanying sales data, we’d be able to more closely investigate how close these aggregated searches are to final sales data, but for now, this is the most we’ve been given. Of course, that’s also one of the bigger questions of this hemp-derived industry in general. Just how big are sales? The cannabinoid market is a very controversial one, but its also a very below-board one, which means not many companies are willing to release their data. Or I assume that’s why it’s been so problematic finding data. For whatever the reason is, answering the simple question of how much money do these companies bring in, has been a black hole, with infographics like this offering the most anyone wants to give. Did we really learn a lot here? Not really. Apart from vendors possibly getting insight on how to list products, we aren’t increasing out knowledge base with anything interesting. Other questions it raisesApart from how this relates to sales data, there is also the question of what particular goods were searched for. Like, in the category of vapes, what percentage of the searches were for delta-8 products, how many were for CBD, and how many for HHC? It could be that one of these categories clearly dominates, or that they rather evenly share the field. It would be very useful to know what products in each category are searched for most. The same goes for a category like ‘candy’. Gummies have grown in interest all over, but how do they compare to chocolate bars? And are other baked goods in this category, or in another? Then there is the question of whether kush.com counted searches in multiple categories. For example, if a person searched for infused sodas, would it count in just ‘drinks’, or in ‘drinks’ and in ‘edibles’? Same question for gummies, and pet treats that are also edibles. And it can be applied to flowers and pre-rolls, as well. ![]() I’m also curious, when looking at this kind of data, of how many searches each searcher did. It could be that the majority are just people going through the site, with each searcher checking out tons of different categories before making a purchase, or leaving without purchasing. How many categories did the average searcher check out? If its 10, then this data wouldn’t relate well to sales figures, but if its one or two, it indicates that searchers were more specific in what they were looking for, and probably more likely to buy. ConclusionHow useful an infographic like this is, is hard to say. Sure, it provides a tiny peak at some information, but if you’re like me, and you want more expressive information on the field, something like this not only falls short, but appears to be more a marketing scheme to get traffic, then an actual scientific output meant to add to the understanding of the overall market. I’m not terribly impressed in the end. I’d be more impressed with real sales data, something that’s never released in this industry. Whether that’s because these companies don’t want the federal government knowing their true sales information, or a lack of result to meet the built-up facade of sales, I have no idea. But they should be out there, and they’re not, and this offering is a paltry substitute, for real and useful information. Thanks for stopping by out little site! I never was able to drive while stoned, but for most people, weed literally enhances the experience. I can sometimes work well when stoned, but sometimes it just makes me want to snack, and get off focus. Some people can get baked, and then teach a class of students, some can’t think straight at all after a few hits. Knowing yourself, and your own limits and reactions, is very important in making this decision. If you have a job where getting high during your work day isn’t compatible with the work you do, then best to skip this one. But if you have a job you’re perfectly capable of doing stoned, maybe give yourself a stoned working day. I’m not saying take 10 bong rips before grading papers, but if taking a couple joint hits, or a few vape tokes, makes getting through a bunch of student essays that mush faster and brighter…do it! Give yourself that extra smoke break, bring yourself in a nice nug, find yourself a comfy place for a private toke, or join the smoking members of your office – really..there are sure to be some. This 420, maybe you have to spend it working, whether that’s in an office or from your home, but you can certainly spend it working with a nice buzz. And if your job doesn’t provide for this, just get through the day, and plan yourself some fun 420 activities at night. I don’t promote anyone do anything that might threaten their job, so if you’re smoking on the down-low at work, make sure its very, very low. 420 is a horrible day to get fired for smoking at work, and while some workplaces are probably more easy-going, some are definitely not. If you choose to make it a hazy 420 at work, and this is not a usual thing, just be careful! Take a trip to your local dispensaryThis one is good for nearly any holiday, but especially so for this one. One of the best ways to celebrate 420, is taking a trip to your local dispensary. Obviously, this doesn’t apply to a lot of the population, but if you happen to be in a legal location, celebrate it! Even if its just medically legal, and you’ve got a card. Use it for 420! Dispensaries are like the churches of cannabis, and going to one is a great way to show support. I’m not saying that dispensaries offer the best deals, or are fairly priced, and there’s certainly much to be improved in how dispensaries are run, and the black market around them. But they also represent a legal change. An ability that didn’t exist before, and an ending of a certain kind of persecution. In that way, visiting your local dispensary is like showing your support for whatever progress has happened, even if it hasn’t been a perfect job. A lot of kids are at home instead of in prison because of these new laws, and we shouldn’t forget that. ![]() Anti-marijuana laws were built on racism and persecution. While the collective opinion about the drug has changed drastically over the last decade or so, plenty of people still lose their time to unnecessary prison sentences. This is not just about being able to buy every kind of edible possible, and get nearly 100% THC extractions. It’s also about social justice, and the ability for political progress, even against an overarching federal governmental enemy that keeps fighting back with smear campaigns, even at this point in the game. This year, it might be a low-key mid-week 420, but you can still celebrate it by buying some weed products, and being glad you have the ability to use them at will (depending on where you are). And if you’re not in a place where you can go to visit your local dispensary, maybe try to get in on a legalization parade or effort, and show that you want things to change. You can write to your congressman, sign a petition if one’s available, or check out the local chapters of weed legalization organizations like NORML for your area. And of course, if you don’t have dispensaries, it means you probably have a dealer who can hook you up, and keep things going. And that promotes the industry as well, even if not the legal one. One thing about holidays, is that there are always good deals! If you get into a dispensary, you can take advantage of all the holiday offers. If you can’t, check out these deals for 420 which ship all over the country. Cannabinoid compounds are big at the moment, and you can take advantage of tons of deals on ‘hemp-derived’ products while they last. These products are not everyone’s first choice, but they do make a nice addition for those who cannot get to legal dispensaries, and don’t have a guy to hook them up. Do some home-420-cookingA great way to do a low-key mid-week 420 is with some fun in the kitchen. Whether its for just you, or a small party of people, cooking up some 420 foods is sure to get you feeling in the spirit of things. And unlike a few decades ago, when this would have meant making brownies or chocolate chip cookies only, you actually have a ton of options. The world of edibles has grown extensively, and that means you can make all kinds of weed treats. Like gummies. You can pretty easily make your own gummies! Check out these DIY gummy recipes to see what you’ll need in order to whip up a batch of home-made gummy goodness. And don’t worry, you don’t need official molds, just some cookie cutters, and you’re good to go. Plus, when you do it yourself, you can control for everything that’s put in. Store bought gummies sometimes have lots of extra chemical ingredients, but your homemade gummies can be extra ingredient-free. Choose your color and flavor, and how strong you want them to be. Let’s be honest, everyone does like sweets, even if there are other options. Cookies? Cupcakes? Brownies? Check out these recipes for CBD treats, which can easily be made into THC treats as well. Sometimes the old standard is there for a reason, and the best way to make your tummy happy, is with some good, old-fashioned, high-inducing, baked goods. These recipes are delicious for the sweet tooth inside you, and provide an excellent throw-back to the 420’s of several decades ago. ![]() If you’re thinking ‘but I’m vegan, this is much harder for me’, no worries, there are plenty of recipes for our non-animal-eating friends as well. From the recipes themselves, to how to create vegan cannabutter and oil to put in tons of other recipes, cannabis concoctions now reach the corners of the world. And that means even vegans can have fun in the kitchen on 420. Check out these sumptuous recipes for butternut squash quinoa salad, cannabis chia seed pudding, and cannabis alfredo, and whip up a five star infused vegan meal for this stoner holiday. If you’re lucky enough to have a slow morning, or a day off, here’s a great way of giving your significant other a fantastic 420 morning surprise. Go ahead and make them the perfect infused breakfast! There’s nothing like waking and baking with your favorite morning foods, like oats to get your started, mouth-watering avocado toast, infused coffee of your choice, home-made weed tea, and fruit smoothies with a special zing. What’s better than a breakfast that leaves you buzzed? Not much! This one is sure to score you some bonus points, no matter who you prepare it for, even if its just for you! ConclusionThis year it’s a low-key mid-week 420, and that means you might have to work. Still, plenty of ways to enjoy yourself and the holiday, whether in the office, or at home. Whatever you choose to do, if you do it with some nice indoor grown, high-caliber marijuana, it’s sure to be a fantastic holiday, even if you simply pair it with some Netflix…and chill. The post Low-Key Ideas for A Mid-Week 420 appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/04/14/low-key-ideas-for-a-mid-week-420/ Magic mushrooms are legal for adult use in Oregon, and are up for legalization in Washington, California, and Michigan. Currently-being-tested drugs made by COMPASS Pathways and Usona institute were awarded FDA ‘Breakthrough Therapy’ status which is meant to get a product to market faster. So it suffices to say that magic mushrooms are definitely coming. If you’re interested in growing them, the first thing you’ll need are magic mushroom spores. Here’s a little on the legality of these spores, and the best places to buy them. Magic mushroom spores are a super important part of the mushroom growing experience, and getting quality products is the difference between a great batch of mushrooms, and…nothing. Check out these companies if you’re currently on the quest for spores. We’re a publication reporting on all that’s important in this growing landscape of psychedelics. Magic mushroom sporesMagic mushrooms are a set of fungi which all contain psychedelic compounds like psilocybin and psilocin. These substances are classed as hallucinogens, which are a type of psychoactive drug. Hallucinogens are known for producing often vivid, fake sensory experiences, wherein a user sees/hears/feels/smells/tastes something that isn’t actually there. They’re also known for causing feelings of euphoria and well-being, feelings of connectedness to other people and the universe at large, a sense of spirituality and mystical experiences, alteration in perception and mood, and to induce life changing experiences. Magic mushrooms, like other fungi, reproduce by creating and letting out one-celled egg-like structures, called spores. Spores are both a product of sexual and asexual reproduction depending on the specific fungi, and like other eggs and seeds, each spore is capable of growing into a mushroom. Spores for mushrooms are often sold in what look like big hypodermic needles, and are sold for all kinds of mushrooms legally. This includes magic mushroom spores, which specifically produce the Schedule I substances psilocybin and psilocin, the serotonergic compounds that lead to psychedelic effects. Mushrooms themselves often fit into legal loopholes throughout the world, and the legality of the spores is certainly a loophole in and of itself. ![]() Legality of magic mushroom sporesPsilocybin and psilocin are both schedule I substances in the US, which means growing a plant that has those compounds, makes it an illegal plant. Therefore, magic mushrooms in general are federally illegal. But this is not true of the spores. The spores contain none of the two psychedelic compounds that their grown versions have. As such, magic mushroom spores are not actually illegal, and can be purchased and sold within legal limits, thus creating the magic mushroom spores loophole. The exception to this, are the states California, Georgia, and Idaho, which outlaw specific (but not all) magic mushroom spores. Psychedelic mushrooms in general fit into a global legal loophole, caused by a legal contradiction. Both psilocybin, psilocin, as well as their derivatives, are in Schedule I of the UN’s Convention on Psychotropic substances, an international treaty from 1971 which determines the legality of different psychoactive substances on a global level. The contradiction enters because the actual plants are not scheduled under that treaty, or any other. So there are laws outlawing some specific plant components, but there isn’t a law against the whole plants. This was made clear in 2001, when the International Narcotics Control Board (the independent organization tasked with monitoring how the UN implements drug treaties), responded to the Dutch ministry of health about a question regarding mushroom legality. It stated: “As a matter of international law, no plants (natural material) containing psilocine and psilocybin are at present controlled under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1971. Consequently, preparations made of these plants are not under international control and, therefore, not subject of the articles of the 1971 Convention.” In other countries you can also see peculiar laws. Like Mexico, for example, where the cultivation and use of magic mushrooms are illegal, except if done for religious reasons, and if the mushrooms are picked from the wild. Then, somehow, it’s totally cool and within legal limits. So if you find yourself some mushrooms in the wild, and take them for ceremonial reasons, you’re all good! Where to buy magic mushroom sporesRight now, the best way to get magic mushroom spores, aside from getting them off someone you know, is to find a trusted site on the internet. This is often difficult to do, as the internet is full of low-class vendors looking to rip a person off. But that doesn’t mean good sites and operations don’t exist, and the following are a few to check into if you want quality spores. ![]() I brought it down to three options based on Trustpilot reviews, although Trustpilot doesn’t necessarily match up to other review sites like SporeAuthority. Even so, I found this is to be the best method. I think a good thing to remember is that in all of these cases, a positive result depends not just on the product, but on the grower and growing environment. While some bad reviews for some companies state the lack of a product, which is obviously problematic, complaints of products not working properly should be taken with a grain of salt, as we know nothing about what the grower did. I want to add, that even though I used Trustpilot, I didn’t use it blindly. Companies like Pacific Northwest Spore, Co. were disregarded. This company has 35 reviews, all done recently, all giving it 5 stars, with only very basic information in the reviews. The company website also points directly to these Trustpilot reviews, with nothing else on the internet backing up this level of quality. I concluded the reviews are likely fake and passed over this company. The following are the best scored companies I could find that are consistently rated well across the internet. Interested shoppers should check reddit sites for vendors, like R/sporetraders, or this list of vendors here, as well. Still best to do some research before making a purchase, as information can get outdated and updated very quickly. Once you’ve got your spores, you can check out this general how-to guide for growing mushrooms on your own. Magic mushroom spore vendors1) Sporworks – this company holds a 4.1 on Trustpilot with 93 reviews, and offers products like specialty mushroom cultures, spore syringes, and spore prints. It carries standard strains, as well as rare and exotic mushroom spores, and adds new spores to its catalogue frequently. It also sells tons of equipment for the growing process. Syringes come as low as $10 for Panaeolus (Copelandia) tropicalis, and $12 for Psilocybe cubensis, and spore prints go up to about $38 for strains like Psilocybe azurescens, Psilocybe Mexicana, Psilocybe subtropicalis, Psilocybe tampanensis etc. Specialty syringes are $18 and include Agaricus bitorquis, Coprinus comatus, and Ganoderma lucidum, while the company offers $55 culture slants for Stropharia rugoso-annulata, Panellus stipticus, and Pleurotus columbinus, among others. The company accepts payment via credit card by phone, mail orders, and cryptocurrency, orders are shipped within 2-3 days of payment, and should arrive 3-5 days from shipment. All international shipping is currently suspended, meaning only customers in the US can access this company’s services at the moment. Sporeworks offers a return and refund policy within 30 days, requires buyers to be 18+, and doesn’t sell certain specified strains to consumers in California, Idaho, or Georgia, based on local laws. This company has been operating since 1998, making it one of the longer running mushroom companies out there. ![]() 2) PremiumSpores.com – This company holds a 3.7 on Trustpilot with 55 reviews. The company offers tons of Psilocybe cubensis strains like Golden Teacher, Penis Envy, and Z-Strain. Prices range from $12.99 for strains like Malabar Coast Spores and Pink Buffalo, to $33.99 for Entheogen Explosion, and Luminous Lucies. It also offers Psilocybe Mexicana spore syringes in strains: Psilocybe Mexicana Galindoi and Psilocybe Mexicana: Jalisco for $26.99; and Cubensis Mushroom Spores including Thai Tanic, Air Force 1, and Purple Mystic Mushroom. PremiumSpores doesn’t ship banned strains to states with laws against them, and technically Cubensis and Mexicana spores are all sold only for microscopic research and identification, though it seems the company probably isn’t looking too hard into what consumers are doing. The company ships with discreet packaging, and serves the US and Canada only, and offers different levels of expedited shipping at different costs. Customers can pay via Zelle, Bitcoin or Etherium, or with cash, check, or money order. 3) Earth’s Tongue – This site holds a 3.7 on Trustpilot with 13 reviews. The company is geared toward growing supplies for high end fungi, scientific technology, supplies for mycology, tools for growing, sterilized substrates, and sterilized media, among other products. The company offers “gourmet and medicinal mushroom cultures for growing, cooking, restaurant and gastronomic use, research in medical value, and making extracts for therapeutic use.” The company makes no specific mention of psychedelic mushrooms on its site, but does offer plenty of psilocybin spore options, like B+, Figi Island, and Guadalajara. Earth’s Tongue has separated itself a bit, with its own proprietary patented products, like the “New Moon” spore solution, which is (according to the company) contaminate proof, over long periods, and even with multiple uses. It also developed a “Deep Freeze” spore solution which allows for consistent temperature storage over long periods, which is touted as being great for storage, as well as ensuring no damage during transport, no matter the season. The company doesn’t ship to places where there are restrictions, but otherwise can ship anywhere in the world. Shipping and delivery dates are based on the order and location, so buyers must make an order to see when its expected arrival date is. The company accepts returns within 30 days, and sets shipping rates according to product weights, which can be found on the specific product pages. ConclusionThere are plenty of smaller companies which don’t have reviews yet, but which likely supply high-quality products. And there are some well-known companies I bypassed, but which you might want to try from your own research. One day it might be commonplace to go to your local corner store to pick up magic mushroom spores, but that day is still way off. For now, its best to do your research if you want to buy spores, and find the company that seems most trustworthy to you. Hello and welcome! The post Magic Mushroom Spores: Legality, and Where to Buy Them appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/04/12/magic-mushroom-spores-legality-and-where-to-buy-them/ April 20th (4/20) is upon us and cannabis users all over the country are preparing – buying their favorite products, making plans with their friends, even dispensaries often have little parties complete with sales, gift bags, food, and music during what’s now considered the world’s unofficial “stoner holiday”.But the history behind this important day in the cannabis industry remains hazy. How did it start? There are so many different 4/20 stories out there and if you’ve been smoking weed for a while you’ve likely heard quite a few… It’s the number of active chemicals in cannabis. It’s teatime in Holland. It’s those numbers in that Bob Dylan song when multiplied together. But what is it, really? And what are some fun ways to celebrate 4/20? Learn more about this infamous stoner holiday, as well as some of our favorite products and activities to celebrate the day with. As always, the best 420 deals are reserved for the subscribers of The THC Weekly newsletter, so make sure to SUBSCRIBE today. The real history of 4/20None of the above stories are accurate. We traced the origin of this term back to a group of five teens from San Rafael, California, who were appropriately nicknamed “the Waldos” due to their preferred hang out spot – a wall outside of their high school. In the fall of 1971, the Waldos heard about a coast guard member who planted some cannabis but was no longer able to tend to it. Every day after school, they would pile into a car, smoke some buds, and search the Point Reyes Forest for this legendary crop. Their daily meeting time? 4:20 p.m. They never did find the elusive crop, but they did however start a trend at their high school. The phrase “420” quickly spread around the student body because it allowed teens to talk about cannabis openly while their parents and teachers were none the wiser. But how did “4:20” become the international cannabis holiday, 4/20? Trends spread around high schools all the time and don’t become world-famous, so what was different in this situation? That took some star power, for which we have the Grateful Dead to thank. The Waldos had connections with the Grateful Dead. Mark Gravitch’s father managed the band’s real estate and Dave Reddix’s older brother was good friends with Phil Lesh, the Dead’s bassist. At a Dead concert during Christmas weekend 1990, High Times reporter Steve Bloom was handed a flyer that read, “We are going to meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420-ing in Marin County at the Bolinas Ridge sunset spot on Mt. Tamalpais.” Once High Times printed the story, accompanied by a photo of the flyer, it was game over. Celebrating 4/20 todayToday, 4/20 is the unofficial cannabis holiday and it’s celebrated worldwide. Denver, Colorado, boasts the world’s largest 4/20 event known as the Mile High 420 Festival, which takes places at Civic Center Park in the heart of downtown. In California, there are multiple large cannabis events on April 20th, all the way from Oakland to Los Angeles. Up north, Canadians celebrate various events as well. Many dispensaries, especially recreational ones, will have 4/20 events for all who want to partake. Typically you’ll find awesome discounts, gift bags, activities, music, raffles, food and more.
