Before we get into research and methodology, let’s take a moment to discuss what we already know about cannabis. First and foremost, it’s loaded with anti-inflammatory compounds that are incredibly beneficial when you’re putting any type of stress on the body. We also know that cannabis is great for managing mild to moderate pain – another workout benefit, especially on the recovery front. And we are aware of the fact that it can help with sleep and appetite, both of which are crucial components to building muscle faster. Taking all this into consideration, it seems that cannabis and exercise go together like salt and pepper, or a bong and lighter. Let’s talk more about the research, how it all works, and different ways to incorporate weed into your workout regimen. Some people prefer either-or, but a good combination of both workout methods is the healthiest option. Both types of exercise are very different from one another, but equally important to your overall fitness goals. The main objectives most people have when working out is to lose fat, build muscle, and increase endurance; and one of the quickest ways to do this is through regular strength training. The effects of this type of exercise are cut and dry: shed fat, replace it with muscle, and get stronger. Several types of exercises build your strength and endurance such as lifting weights or doing heavy reps on weight machines, push-ups and sit-ups, squats, resistance bands, stair climbers, yoga, planks, and many more. However, to build up your stamina, which will help with anything physical you plan to do in life, you’ll want to make sure to include some cardio in your routine as well. You don’t want to overdo it, but two or three days of cardiovascular exercise is vital. Doctors recommend at least 30 minutes per week, but if you’re going for moderate-intensity, then 75-150 minutes would be better. Swimming, walking, running, cycling, jumping rope, and dancing are great examples of cardiovascular exercise. ![]() Working out with weedAll that said, the type of workout you do will determine the best time and method for your cannabis consumption. For example, if you’re doing cardio, it might be best to hold off on any smoking or vaping until after your activities, for obvious reasons. But if you do like to get stoned and run, there are some other options for you. You could eat a gummy or take a drop or two a nice tincture to get in your zone before beginning. If you’re doing strength training, on the other hand, weed can be a great way alleviate any aches and pains that may be hindering your stamina. I love getting stoned and hitting the weights, and a lot of times, I even take a couple tokes between reps. I personally feel that I can lift heavier when I work out stoned, and because I get lost in my head a bit and the act of exercising is more pleasurable, I may even end up doing more reps or an extra set or two. When we look at the main reasons for why people don’t stick to their workout regimens and fail to meet their goals, it makes sense how cannabis can help. Over the years, studies have found that the few common elements that make people want to quit working out are: difficult recovery, low enjoyment of working out, and lack of motivation. Research that looked specifically at the idea of working out with weed, found that 70 percent of nearly 500 respondents claimed that cannabis “increases enjoyment of exercise,” and a total of 78 percent said that it aids in their recovery. Just over 50 percent said it increases their motivation to work out. Additionally, those who used cannabis beforehand worked out for longer than those who didn’t use any. To be more precise, those who used cannabis exercised of for an average of 43 minutes longer when doing aerobic exercise and 30 minutes longer for anaerobic exercise. The results were published in the Frontiers in Public Health journal. “To our knowledge, this is the first study to survey attitudes and behavior regarding the use of cannabis before and after exercise, and to examine differences between cannabis users who engage in co-use, compared to those who do not,” the study authors wrote. “Given both the spreading legalization of cannabis and the low rates of physical activity in the US, it behooves public health officials to understand the potential effects—both beneficial and harmful—of cannabis use on exercise behaviors.” More researchThere’s plenty of research that can be found regarding the effects of cannabis on pain on oxidative stress, so that alone speaks volumes. But in addition to the aforementioned survey, another interesting study on the topic of working out with weed came out in 2003. The study was titled Exercise Activates the Endocannabinoid System, and the focus of the research was on exactly that. ![]() The study looked at male college students, having the subjects run on a treadmill or cycle on a stationary bike for 50 minutes at roughly 70-80% of maximum heart rate. It was found that this level of exercise quickly engaged the endocannabinoid system, and as a result, the participants had higher levels of anandamide in their blood. Anandamide, also known as the “bliss molecule”, is one of the few endocannabinoids created by the human body and is responsible for maintaining balance and homeostasis. Additionally, when it comes to addressing possible concerns (the main one being issues relating smoking a product before doing any type of exercise), a study has been conducted on that too. Despite the irrefutable fact that inhaling combusted plant matter of any sort, be it tobacco or cannabis, is not the healthiest thing you could do for your body, this systematic review from 2020, titled Chronic Cannabis Consumption and Physical Exercise Performance in Healthy Adults: A Systematic Review, found that smoking weed before exercising had almost no negative impact on any aspect of athletic performance. More specifically, the only measurable difference that researchers were able to find was in resting heart rate, and that was only noted in one study which stated that cannabis users have a higher resting heart rate than non-users. Aside from that, other areas that were analyzed included cardiorespiratory fitness, endurance, strength, stamina, and overall peak workout ability – and no quantifiable differences were observed. Final thoughtsAlthough cannabis has long held on to the reputation that consuming it makes people lazy, as it turns out, that simply is not accurate. As a matter of fact, research has determined that the opposite holds true. Being lazy, makes you lazy, whereas weed might actually motivate people to work out by making the experience less painful and more enjoyable. Welcome to the site! The post Happy Memorial Day! Save Big With These Bundles! appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/05/30/happy-memorial-day-save-big-with-these-bundles/ With so many different kinds of CBD products available, it’s natural to try to simplify the situation by selecting a single option that’s ideal in every situation. The truth is that there’s no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” CBD product — the main reason there are such a wide variety of CBD product types to choose from is that different situations call for different products. Depending on your needs, you might even want to use multiple types of CBD products simultaneously. First, though, you’ll need to learn the differences between the various CBD products at your disposal and consider the unique benefits of each option. Overview of CBD Product TypesWhat types of CBD products are there? Some of the product types we’ll list below are options you’ve probably already heard of. Others, though, may have escaped entirely your notice despite potentially being the best CBD solution for your situation: What Are CBD Tinctures?CBD tinctures, also known as CBD oils, are oil-based, orally ingested CBD products that are usually offered in small dropper bottles. Featuring anywhere from 500-5000 mg of CBD per bottle, the droppers that come with CBD tinctures make it easy to control the exact amount of CBD you ingest. What Are CBD Gummies?CBD gummies consist of CBD-rich hemp extract combined with sweeteners, thickeners, and coloring agents to result in a product type that’s tasty and enjoyable to use. CBD gummies generally contain between 10-50mg of CBD each, and some options consist entirely of organic or natural ingredients, like these CBD gummies. What Are CBD Topicals?CBD topicals are lotions, balms, creams, or salves that have been infused with CBD-rich hemp oil. Designed to be applied to the body externally rather than orally ingested, CBD topicals usually contain 200-1000mg of CBD per container. What Are CBD Capsules?CBD capsules (also known as CBD soft gels or gel caps) are orally ingested products that are filled with CBD-rich hemp oil. Allowing you to use CBD while avoiding the somewhat strong taste of hemp oil, an average CBD capsule contains around 10-50mg of CBD. Other Types of CBD ProductsSo far, we’ve barely scratched the surface when it comes to listing all the different types of CBD products that are now available online. Some people choose to inhale CBD in the form of CBD-rich hemp flower or vapes, and others even prefer the benefits of CBD suppositories. Drinkable CBD products — such as CBD teas — have become considerably more popular in recent years, and certain producers of CBD topicals have branched out into skincare products like facial serums and cosmetics. Now that you have so many different ways to use CBD, it’s practically guaranteed that you’ll find an option that’s perfect for your needs. Which Type of CBD Product is Best?Is there one type of CBD product that’s better than all the rest? The simple answer is “no,” but it’s more than likely that you’ll find certain CBD product types to be better for your needs than others. Let’s explore some of the variables that might impact your decision: Particular ApplicationsCBD product types vary considerably regarding their ideal applications. It wouldn’t be an effective choice to use a CBD topical if you’re experiencing pain throughout your entire body, but if you only need to experience the benefits of CBD in a few easy-to-reach areas, a topical product could actually be ideal. Situational NeedsEven if CBD topicals provide the relief you’re searching for better than any other product type, you can’t be expected to disrobe in public every time you want to reapply CBD to the affected area. The same goes for areas of your body that are hard to reach — while a CBD topical might be the ideal choice if you can rely on someone else to help you apply it, you might instead use an orally ingested CBD product if applying topicals yourself proves too cumbersome. Personal PreferenceSome people like tinctures, but others can’t stand the taste. Some CBD users love gummies, but others find them too sweet. Your friend might swear by CBD capsules, but you personally like the potentially enhanced benefits derived from holding a CBD tincture under your tongue before swallowing. Personal preference is one factor you certainly shouldn’t overlook as you select an ideal CBD product. There’s no reason to be stuck with a type of CBD you don’t like with so many options available. Benefits of CBD Product Types ComparedEach CBD product has its own unique benefits. Understanding these benefits better will help you choose an ideal product type: Benefits of CBD TincturesMany CBD users find tinctures ideal due to their simple ingredients and faster-acting effects. Some research indicates that allowing a CBD tincture like the Colorado Botanicals 1,500mg Full Spectrum CBD Oil to rest under your tongue for around 60 seconds before swallowing might let the CBD it contains pass through the thin mucosal membranes that line the inside of your mouth. If you take CBD in the form of a tincture, you may not have to wait so long to experience the beneficial effects of this non-intoxicating cannabinoid. Benefits of CBD GummiesGummies like the Colorado Botanicals 25mg CBD Gummies are ideal for people who either dislike the taste of CBD oil or need an extra incentive to ingest their daily dose of cannabinoids. While it’s true that CBD gummies contain lots of ingredients that aren’t present in other CBD product types, it’s precisely those sweeteners, thickeners, and flavorings that can transform taking CBD from an arduous chore into an enjoyable experience. Benefits of CBD TopicalsTopicals can do what other kinds of CBD products cannot — target specific areas of your body without being diluted by the digestive system first. Even though taking CBD by mouth is often an effective way to use this cannabinoid, there’s no denying that the bioavailability of oral CBD is comparatively low. What’s more, CBD you take orally affects your entire body equally. Topicals like the Colorado Botanicals 500mg Alleviate CBD Gel, on the other hand, deliver CBD with impressive potency exactly where you need to experience the benefits of this cannabinoid the most. Benefits of CBD CapsulesTaking CBD capsules represents the most straightforward approach to using this cannabinoid, even if capsules lack the enhanced bioavailability of tinctures and the tastiness of gummies. For people who want to take CBD in the same way that they take their daily supplements, capsules such as the Colorado Botanicals 25mg Broad Spectrum CBD Softgels might be the best solution. Benefits of Other CBD ProductsSome unconventional types of CBD products might simply be gimmicky (we’re looking at you, CBD eyeliner). Others, though, may provide additional benefits that aren’t covered by any of the options we’ve listed so far. For instance, CBD tea and other types of CBD-infused drinks benefit from the enhanced bioavailability of water-soluble CBD extract, and some people believe CBD suppositories are even more ideal than CBD capsules for addressing certain conditions. Additional Factors to ConsiderDepending on your circumstances, there may not be any convincing reasons to limit yourself to a single kind of CBD product. People who primarily rely on CBD topicals, for instance, can supplement with oral CBD products like tinctures or gummies for enhanced and longer-lasting effects. Taking the same CBD tincture every day might even become tedious over time, in which case spicing things up with the occasional gummy could be an excellent plan. Choosing the Best CBD Product: The Bottom LineWhile there’s no single type of CBD product that’s better than all the rest, some CBD companies make better products than others. As you select the type — or types — of CBD products that will suit your needs the best, make sure to read customer reviews, check for lab reports, and study the ingredients included in each product you’re considering. There are already so many options to choose from, but even more types of CBD products are waiting on the horizon. Select a CBD solution that will suit your needs today, and stay tuned to find out what the hemp industry comes up with next. The post Which CBD Product Type is Best? Additionally, many volunteers will place American Flags on the graves of military personnel at national cemeteries. Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States. Much like similar holidays that have significant historical and cultural meaning, Memorial Day has been very much commercialized over the last few decades. Now, the bulk of Memorial Day celebrations consist of cookout-style gatherings and shopping for deals. Sales Peak on FridayThis is a common trend across the board, possibly because a lot of people in the US get paid on Fridays, but according to BDSA’s report, Friday saw the most cannabis sales during the three-day weekend. Thursday and Saturday trailed closely after. In previous years, inhalable products like flower and vape were the most sought after products, so we’ll see if the trend continues this year. It makes sense, because Memorial Day is a social holiday like the Fourth of July, so people get together, grill out, and spend time outside. In the report, the BDSA claims that “50% of people consume for daytime festivities”. Edibles are also a popular option, as are cannabis-infused beverages and Many predicted cannabis beverages to surge in popularity in 2021. Edibles are already taking the industry by storm. Cannabis data analytics company, Headset, recently reported edibles grew by 60% across seven legal markets in the United States. This includes market share, according to Headset data analyst Cooper Ashley, who said they increased from 10.65% in 2019 to 11.07% of the market share in 2020. Memorial DayMemorial Day is an important holiday in the USA and it takes place on the last Monday of May every year. This year it will fall on Monday the 30th May. It is time to pay respects to those who have fallen and fought for the army over the many wars that have taken place since the holiday began. In America, this celebration often presents itself in the form of BBQs and cook-outs. If you’re not from America then all you’ll need to do is watch basically any American movie where someones hosting a summer party and you’ll see what it can be. Lovely barbequed food, lovely drink and lovely company. Country Living highlights the order of which people should prioritise their Memorial Day festivities: “First, take a moment to get reacquainted with the holiday’s history. Next, put together a patriotic playlist via these Memorial Day songs. Then, it’s time to plan some family-friendly activities. But the centerpiece of the weekend will be the cookout! The kids want burgers, adults crave chicken, and, of course, everyone wants desserts!” Memorial Day has changed slightly since it was first created. The civil war in America, happening in the years 1861-1865, took more lives than any other US conflict. 2% of the American population or 620,000 people lost their lives during a war that fought for freedom. In today’s standards, 2% of the US population would be 6 million people. The civil war was a fight over the long-lasting institution of slavery, as well as other societal issues. In the end, slavery was abolished by Abraham Lincoln in the 13th Amendment in 1865. Four million enslaved people were freed. However, this was only the beginning of creating a world where all people were treated equally. Still to this day, in 2022, it’s hard to see that this is completely the case. After such a loss of lives, states in America began to hold tributes in the late 60s to those who had died. These small celebrations then became something more official when, in 1968, general John Logan, leader of the Northern Civil War Veterans, called for a national commemoration. History writes what he announced: “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” Back then, it was known as Decoration Day. However, as more wars began to be fought – the likes of WW1, WW1, Vietnam, Koreak and Afghanistan – the day became about more than just the civil war. It became about all of the soldiers from all of the conflicts who had lost their lives. Then, in 1968, Decoration Day became known officially as Memorial Day and was announced a federal national holiday on the last Monday of May. This was to ensure that people got a longer weekend. And, the fact that May usually marks the beginning of summer, it’s no surprise that cook-outs became such a big thing during these celebrations. Essential Cannabis ItemsSo, now you understand why people celebrate Memorial Day, it’s time to highlight the ideal cannabis items to have to make the most of your holiday. It’s important to remember what Memorial Day is about, and the importance of it to hopefully stop any more people from dying in war. Now we’re going to turn our attention to cannabis. As the world is changing, there are certain weed products that are standing above the rest. Let’s take a look. Cannabis VapeA cannabis vape, be it dry herb or cartridge, is an essential item. Whilst you may be outside, lighting up a joint and smoking it just doesn’t have the same ring to it anymore. The smell of the burning, the second hand unhealthy smoke and the time it takes to roll – these things really push people towards purchasing vapes. Plus, if you’re going to an event with children, you may not want to be promoting smoking cannabis. ![]() Alternatively, cannabis vapes are discreet, slick and easy. They burn at a lower temperature so as to avoid combustion, making them far more healthy on the lung. Also, they avoid pumping out the scent of cannabis or burning substances. With a cannabis vape, you’ll be able to enjoy weed easily both indoors or outdoors during Memorial Day without drawing any unwanted attention. If you’re in a specific state, cannabis cartridges are legal and easily purchasable so you can use a cart vape. If you’re not, then try using a dry herb vape and placing the bud directly into the vape chamber. This could change your holiday. THC-Infused SaucesAs we’ve mentioned, the likelihood of a barbeque and a cook-out is likely. Therefore, why not combine cannabis and cooking? It might sound insane, but there are actual THC-infused sauces that can be bought for you to put on your burgers, hotdogs and any other sauce-requiring foods. The Fly High brand has ketchup, mustard and hot sauce sachets with around 5mg of THC per packet. “Usually a condiment is an afterthought, but ours is more like something to plan a meal around. Our ketchup is created from fresh vine-ripe tomatoes and savory spices, the secret ingredient is a cannabis infusion of 5MG THC per packet.” It also wouldn’t be too hard to make these yourself. Nonetheless, with THC-infused sauces you can combine your love for cannabis with the beautiful cooking of BBQs. THC CrispsAnother essential food item that is a must during a cook-out are crisps. It can take a while waiting for that BBQ to heat up and for the food to cook, so people usually love some nibbles as they wait. Well, THC-infused crips are also a thing. Who could have believed it? Forbes writes about a company in Seattle who have mastered the cannabis crisp. ![]() “Roasted Garlic Chips fried in THC-infused olive oil joined the lineup, along with a Sweet Potato Chip seasoned with cinnamon, brown sugar and sea salt. All of the products are vegan, kosher and made with organic potatoes.” With these crips – or something similar – you can take your Memorial Day to the next level. You can slowly ensure that you’re getting the right dosage of cannabis that you want throughout the day. BongPerhaps if you’re going to a cook-out event that doesn’t have many children, and in fact has a bunch of like-minded people who want to have some fun, then this item might do perfectly. It might sound old-fashioned, but bongs are still one of the best ways to enjoy cannabis. With all of the fresh and new cannabis products out there, it sometimes seems a little 2004 to talk about bongs. But, actually, they are great. A nice glass or ceramic bong – made with the user in mind – can really be an asset to a holiday. The water acts as a cooler, and allows for the smoke to lower in temperature. The body of the bong will build up with smoke, meaning that when you inhale you’ll be taking a huge hit. One of these, and you’ll be guaranteed to have a good celebration. Cannabis BrowniesNow you have snacks and some sauces to play on your food, you’ll need to start thinking about dessert. Cannabis brownies are the number one THC-infused treat. They’re easy to make, and they’re delicious to consume. Check out our recommended recipe here. There’s nothing better than cracking out a batch of weed brownies at the end of a day to get everyone excited. Plus, it shows you’ve taken the time to think about others. ConclusionMemorial Day is a national holiday in America that allows time for people to remember those who have passed fighting for the nation. Hopefully, wherever you are this holiday, you’ll be able to pay your respects. And, if you’re a cannabis lover, then hopefully you’ll be able to find the time to get some of these essential cannabis items to make your day a good one. Hello readers! The post Memorial Day: Essential Cannabis Items You Need This Holiday appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/05/26/memorial-day-cannabis-items/ Memorial Day is upon us again and that means remembering the plight of our fallen soldiers, and celebrating their impact on our country. Many men had to leave their homes to fight in wars like Vietnam, and we don’t often think about the horrors they faced, or how they dealt with it. So this year, let’s examine some stories of smoking in the trenches, and what cannabis meant for soldiers during the Vietnam war. Smoking in the trenches of war isn’t allowed, but it’s certainly done. Vietnam was a major starting point for weed use in the military, which has been a staple for soldiers since that time. This independent publication specializes in cannabis and psychedelics reporting, which you can keep pace with by signing up for the THC Weekly Newsletter. We also offer deals on cannabinoid products like HHC-O, Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP, HHC. Legal weed and the armyThe US isn’t the oldest country, and only began as its own thing in 1776 as a result of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. At that time, hemp was a staple crop, having already been instituted as a forced crop for farmers in places like Jamestown, Virginia. This was on account of the many useful purposes of hemp for the military, like making sales, or uniforms for soldiers. In fact, the last military hemp producer to close down was called Rens Hemp Company out of Wisconsin. In 1958 it shut its doors, ending its long rein as the main provider of hemp rope for the US Navy. In that sense, the US military had been supporting hemp for as long as America was America; at least until prohibition came along. Prohibition obviously changed things, though prior to that time, cannabis wasn’t a drug for smoking in the trenches at all. In fact, it was barely smoked for recreational use. Apart from its use in industrial products, it was generally used as a medicine, for both people and animals. ![]() As far back as WWI, doctors made recommendations for the American Expeditionary Forces to carry tablets of cannabis indica for the likes of insomnia, headaches, and cramps. Cannabis indica was also recommended for treating abdominal pain in horses, as per a 1909 military manual from Fort Riley’s Mounted Service School. Cannabis was one of the subjects of the military’s Edgewood Arsenal Human Experiments. Incidentally, these experiments were the birthplace, or at least primary testing place, for THC analogue THC-O, which is now part of the cannabinoids market, led by delta-8 THC. These experiments took place from the 50’s-70’s, and only ended when Congress finally started asking questions. No formal investigation was done outside of the military, which decided it hadn’t perpetrated any crimes (big surprise). In one study mentioned during that time, it was said that two years of heavy smoking did not dampen the performance or motivation of soldiers. Smoking weed in the military blossomed out during the Vietnam war, when soldiers both drank and smoked to erase the pain of reality. Cannabis was the second most used drug by soldiers at that time. Though when initially sent out for combat the rate of smoking was 29%, a study found that by 1967, the rate had gone up to 34% among active combat soldiers. It did settle back down to 18% eventually, but not during this time. Those who did not get deployed stayed at an 8% smoking rate. Stories of smoking in the trenchesRegardless of whether it was legal or not, it definitely happened. Though many stories are lost to us, from premature military deaths, as well as natural ones of veterans, plenty still remain. Some as little tidbits in anonymous form, which have been carried down through the years. The following thoughts and video are straight from soldiers’ mouths about their experiences of smoking in the trenches of the Vietnam war. During Vietnam, an interesting practice started which we carry on today. The oft seen visual in movies and television shows that prevails still, is of a person smoking weed out of a gun. This video shows soldiers passing a gun around like we’d pass a pipe, and this is where the term ‘shotgunning’ weed comes from, as it can be seen in the video that the men use the gun to blow smoke into each other’s mouths. ‘Shotgunning’ without a gun means taking a hit and blowing the smoke directly into another person’s mouth. ![]() According to a Guardian article by Ian Wright reporting from Vietnam in 1970, there was no shortage of pot use by military personnel. As said by one lieutenant to Wright, “My platoon averaged 23 men of whom maybe three did not use grass. Most of the fellows wouldn’t allow anyone to smoke in the field.” This idea was confirmed a few years earlier by an infantry captain who told the same reporter, “In the field we had no problem. What I mean is I never noticed that any of my guys were stoned. It did not get in the way of what they had to do. I’m neutral as far as pot is concerned. You can have just as much trouble from alcohol.” Regardless of what they allowed themselves to do in the field, there was always plenty of sparking up upon returning to base. The lieutenant quoted earlier, went on that “Usually there’s no beer at a fire support base. Maybe the officers in their tents have a couple of shots of liquor to keep their spirits up. The guys in the dugouts listen to music, smoke grass and get pleasantly high. You can’t blame them.” Some officers simply didn’t understand the situation of their soldiers and didn’t know what they were up to. Smoking weed was still a new thing, so many weren’t aware it was happening. One soldier explained it this way: “Field-grade officers (majors and colonels) often don’t know what’s happening right under their noses. They don’t know what grass is about. I had one commander who regularly sent his radio operator to the base camp to get mail and things and he used to come back with a knapsack full.” Apparently, getting weed in Vietnam was pretty easy. One army doctor clarified: “In every camp in the country, I bet you can get a joint within five minutes.” In Vietnam, cannabis was growing wild at the time, which meant an easy way to get high for American soldiers. In the Mekong Delta specifically, farmers started planting cannabis rather than rice as a way to bring in more money. Said one soldier, “We call it Vietnam’s cottage industry.” He went on to explain how if you asked for the very strong cigarettes from the right vendor in that area, that you’d end up with a pack of Pall Malls with tobacco removed for cannabis. ![]() And it was cheap! So cheap that it didn’t require any violence to obtain. Another soldier detailed that, “Destruction is pretty pointless in Vietnam. Over the border in Laos best quality cannabis costs even less: at a dollar a kilo it is sold openly and legally in Vientiane.” The 1970 article highlighted the opposing views on cannabis even then. According to the end of a survey by the 173 Airborne Brigade surgeon, “What we have seen clinically is a majority of rather incapable, frustrated, poorly educated, passive-aggressive personalities complicating the many problems they already have by becoming involved with the use of marijuana.” On the other hand, a different surgeon for a different brigade somewhat contradicted this sentiment, saying “I regard the use of drugs as just another symptom. In Vietnam all there is for most people to do, is what they don’t want to do. I’ve no doubt that pot aggravates a man’s existing psychotic problems. But if I was five years younger I’d probably be smoking the stuff myself.” Maybe not the ringing endorsement of today, but a view at the beginning of understanding, that the thing being demonized, might not be that bad. Is smoking in the trenches legal in Canada?Sure, this is a Memorial Day article, and that only relates to the US. However, looking abroad nets different examples of policy for how cannabis is used by a military. The US has maintained a strict no-weed policy, whether soldiers are on the field or not. This is because the federal government itself still holds the plant as completely illegal, (even as it promotes drugs like Sativex and epidiolex out of the other side of its mouth). But the US doesn’t tend to be the most forward-thinking country when it comes to weed, and in other places, this strict no-weed-for-soldiers policy is changing. In fact, our neighbors directly north, who have already completely legalized cannabis, are also one-upping the US on military cannabis law. In 2018, upon nationwide legalization, Canada instituted some interesting regulations for its soldiers. Since legalization, soldiers are allowed to smoke weed so long as its eight hours before active duty. If they are set to use weapons, it must stop 24 hours before weapon use begins. For those looking to fly planes, work in hyperbaric conditions, or do skydives, they must wait 28 days after using weed to commence these activities. No other restrictions are put on non-active-duty soldiers. Funny enough, this new law came out at about the same time as another one allowing military personnel in Canada to grow beards. Yup, an entire law was put in place for this, with some stringent stipulations. Apparently, it’s a no-peach-fuzz-allowed rule, and unsuccessful attempts at growing a beard can be met with removal of whatever is there, via shaving. Plus, beards must be accompanied by a mustache, though this too must be kept within limits. There are also requirements for things like upkeep, keeping the neck and cheekbones shaved, and maximum hair length; two centimeters in bulk. Apparently Canada is now cool with military beards, but doesn’t want any hipsters in the ranks. ![]() ConclusionWhen it comes to cannabis and the military, there’s a lot that can be said. Many veterans, for example, rely on the drug as a way to treat their PTSD symptoms. As laws loosen in different states, and in the entirety of the country, perhaps the military will eventually relent, and be more like Canada. Perhaps it won’t be about saying yes to smoking in the trenches, but instead to understanding the desire of soldiers to partake in their free time, without concern. Hello readers! The post Smoking In the Trenches: Cannabis Use in Vietnam appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/05/26/smoking-in-the-trenches-cannabis-use-in-vietnam/ Just to put it out there, drug dogs actually might detect your psychedelics, but it’s highly unlikely. Not that they couldn’t, because dogs have roughly 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses and a sense of smell that’s about 10,000 times stronger than a human’s, not to mention they’re one of the most trainable animals on earth; but simply put, they most likely were not trained for it. So, what substances are drug dogs trained to find And under what possible circumstances would they be trained to find psychedelics? Can certain psychedelics even be detected via odor? Let’s take a deeper look. To stay current on everything important happening in the industry, subscribe to The THC Weekly Newsletter. History of police K9s in the USThe dog, or canine as we know it, is a subspecies of the gray wolf, and was the first animal to be domesticated by humans. Canines have been used for hunting and security since ancient times, as seen with the Romans and Spanish Conquistadors. In more recent history, canines have been used by police and military forces in the UK, Germany, Russia, United States, and many other nations. In law enforcement specifically, dogs have been used for over 100 years. Bloodhounds were used to help find Jack the Ripper in 1888, and by 1899, dogs were regularly trained by police forces in Belgium, which eventually became widely known as the global leader in canine training. In 1907, the New York (NY) Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Theodore A. Bingham, sent one of his detectives, George R. Wakefield, to observe the training program in Belgium. Very impressed with what he saw, Wakefield returned with five Belgian sheepdogs to train and breed. This became the very first police K9 unit in the states. The results were initially wildly unsuccessful. By 1911, the NY police department had 16 dogs trained and had begun sending them out to various residential neighborhoods in Long Island between the hours of 11am and 7am daily. The dogs were trained to chase and tackle anyone who was out between those times, stand on their chest, and bark until the handlers arrived to calm them. Obviously, nothing about this methodology worked and the process needed to be fine tuned over the years. ![]() Fast forward to 1954, when the police department in Dearborn, Michigan, hired a Marine Corps veteran to train four German Shepherds for patrol. The dogs were trained to scale walls, enter vehicles and hold the occupants, disarm suspects, search buildings, and be “vicious or gentle” on command. After six months on patrol with no incidents reported, the first official, modern-day K9 unit was born. How drug sniffing dogs are trainedIn short, drug detection dogs can sniff out anything they are trained to, but typically police departments will stick to the substances that are sold in highest quantities on the black market: methamphetamine, cannabis, cocaine, heroin, and ecstasy. Additionally, some substances have no discernable odor, so a drug dog could not be trained to find ALL substances anyway. That said, the following method is fairly universal in the training of working, drug sniffing dogs. Ideally, you will teach the dog to associate a toy (often a small white towel) with the scent. This is done by putting low concentrations of the scent that you want the dog to recognize on a toy or small towel, and simply playing with the dog. It does not take long for the dog to begin associating the target scent with their fun play toy, and eventually, locating the smell becomes part of the game. When they locate the source of the smell, they get a treat, and thus, a drug dog is trained. Any dog can be trained to find drugs, but some breeds have a better sense of smell than others, and additionally, others are more trainable. Some of the more popular police dog breeds in the United States are German Shepherds, Beagles, and retriever breeds. Why most dogs won’t find your psychedelicsSo, there are a couple reasons why it’s incredibly unlikely for a drug sniffing dog to find psychedelics. First and foremost, they probably were not trained for it. As stated above, the goal is to intercept drugs that are pulling in big money from the illicit market; DMT, LSD, shrooms, etc., being somewhat rare and non-addictive, don’t really fit the bill. Why would cash-strapped departments invest in training a dog to sniff out uncommon drugs when they can confiscate FAR more contraband by having them find the other aforementioned substances? Additionally, some compounds such as LSD, don’t have a detectable odor, so a drug dog would struggle to find them. In this scenario, some highly trained K9s might be able to detect chemical impurities or cross contamination from other drugs that may have occurred during the manufacturing process. But short of any production errors, your LSD is probably safe. ![]() But what about other odorless compounds, like cannabis isolates? Although I could not find any formal information about it online, it does seem to be generally accepted that dogs are trained to smell the combination of compounds in actual flower, or products that contain live resin and full-spectrum oils. Isolated cannabinoid compounds are inherently odorless, because all of the terpenes that produce smells are stripped from the final product, so a dog should not be able to find them unless, again, some type of mistake occurred during the production process. Training your own dogsI believe a common question that comes up in conversations about drug dogs (if you’re a stoner, anyway) is whether an average person can train their own dogs to find drugs. Admittedly, that’s crossed my mind before too. Not that I lose weed very often, but in the rare and highly inconvenient occasions that it does happen, what would be better than having my well-trained dog find it for me? In my experience, the process is easier said than done. There could be numerous different factors at play for why my own training was unsuccessful. Clearly, I’m not a professional dog handler, so there’s that. Or maybe I was not consistent enough and gave up too soon. Or maybe because the dog was around my cannabis products and I was smoking pretty constantly, the smell on her toys wasn’t discernable enough to make a difference. Either way, it didn’t work. That’s not to say any of you couldn’t successfully train a dog to sniff out weed, but you’ll have to be more diligent than I was, and it would probably be in your best interest to set up a controlled environment for the training (ie, don’t expose the dog to cannabis smells in the weeks beforehand, if possible). Final thoughts on drug dogs and psychedelicsPoint blank, a dog can find anything it was trained to find. Studies have found that some breeds can even accurately smell cancer cells in a patient’s blood. If they can do that, they can certainly find your drugs. But taking into consideration how law enforcement K9s are only trained to detect up to 5 different substance, it’s reasonable to assume that police departments won’t waste their time training dogs to find ones that are not perceived as common problem drugs. While there are flavored cannabinoid-infused products on the market, they’re typically soft and chewy gummies or vape cartridges naturally flavored from the terpenes. Drule seems to have found a way to fuse the tasty flavors of the vape world and the soothing effects of Delta-10 THC together in a unique disposable device. Delta-10 THC is one of the cannabinoids recently popularized after the mighty Delta-8 THC craze, but offers a more clear-headed high that many users report being suitable for daytime use. The same heady effects are present, but without the drowsiness and extreme relaxation associated with Delta-8 THC. If you’re a vaper who enjoys a delicious puff of flavor and is curious about the cannabinoid world, keep reading to see my overall impression of Drule’s Strawberry Banana Delta-10 THC Disposable. Drule: The Mouthwatering Flavor CompanyI personally love the company name, as it makes my mouth water with anticipation of the listed flavors. I initially typed in “Drule Delta-10 THC” into my web browser but didn’t find anything initially. Then I saw that the product packaging has listed the website as “thedrule.com” so I typed that in and was redirected to the company website. The actual Drule site seemed a little glitchy at first, almost like the site wasn’t completely finished. There was a tab for Vimeo and all the tools and platforms to use it on, which absolutely does not belong on a brand website. I scrolled a little bit further down and saw the actual disposable product listed in different flavors. I clicked on one of the products and was taken to a very plain product listing, which in turn also had a link to click on if you actually wanted to buy the product. I clicked on the link and was redirected to a completely different site called Perfect Vape. Since this device looks like a disposable vape and comes in flavors often associated with vape e-liquids, I wasn’t that surprised but I was a bit curious why the Drule website did not offer an actual website to purchase from. I then realized that Drule only sells disposable vapes that are NOT infused with Delta-10 THC, and that the Delta-10 THC disposable vapes must not yet be available to the public. I unfortunately have no way of knowing how much this product will cost, but when I do find out, I will gladly update this review. There are 18 other flavors of the disposable vape, one of which being the Strawberry Banana Delta-10 THC disposable that I received. Speaking of which, it’s time to review this intriguing disposable and see just how good this strawberry banana vape actually is. Let’s begin! Drule Delta-10 THC Disposable Product ReviewThe disposable came completely enclosed in a thin paper box with bright colors and the words “Delta-10 THC” were clearly emblazoned in white letters right at the top of the box. I eagerly opened the box and a slim cylinder-shaped device slid out. The device came in a beautiful pink color that was an obvious nod to the advertised strawberry and banana flavor. The device itself was smooth and slim and was nearly weightless in my hand. I unplugged the rubber stopper and immediately detected a sweet scent wafting into my nostrils. The smell reminded me of pink bubblegum with a rich banana undertone and my mouth instantly watered with anticipation. ![]() I held the device device to my lips and gently inhaled to activate the device. A smooth and flavorful cloud of vapor poured into my mouth, reminding me instantly of a vape cloud. The flavor was rich and fruity, and I had to stop myself from taking more hits to enjoy the sweet cloud. The flavor was a bit artificial but tasted more like bananas with a hint of strawberry. The entire experience from inhale to exhale felt exactly like a vape pen, which made it very easy to use. I did not cough from the vapor nor did I feel any burning in my chest or throat. I did feel an extremely mild tightening sensation in my chest, but that passed after a few seconds. I took three hits from the device and had to stop myself from taking more (yes the flavor really was that good!). I noted the time of my last hit and settled in to wait for the effects to kick in. The EffectsThe effects of the Delta-10 THC began to kick in about 10 minutes after my last puff. This high from this particular cannabinoid are similar to Delta-8 THC, just not as strong. I felt a warm euphoria as well as some light tingling in my hands and feet. I felt an enhanced sense of touch and taste (water in particular was delicious), but there was no dry mouth, brain fog, or mental haziness. In fact, I felt much more clear-headed and had sharper focus than I would on a Delta-8 THC high. I was extremely relaxed but did not feel any heavy weighted blanket sensation (couch lock) nor did I feel sleepy or drowsy. My eyelids didn’t feel heavy and I actually felt more awake and alert, despite it being later in the evening. I could actually see myself using this during the day time for motivation, creativity, and non-debilitating relaxation. My only complaint would be that the high was short lived. I felt the effects begin to taper off after about 90 minutes, but by then it had gotten quite late and I was ready to go to sleep. ConclusionThe Drule Delta-10 THC Strawberry Banana Disposable blew my expectations completely out of the water. The rich and smooth flavored paired with the fast-acting high caused me to fall in love with this little disposable from the very first hit. Traditionally, I’ve launched into uncontrollable coughing fits that left me feeling weak and out of breath. This slim and discrete disposable actually had me wanting to use it as frequently as a vaping device, thanks to the smooth and rich fruit flavor. The device came in beautiful packaging and it was clear that the creators had taken time to design an exquisite product that was both easy and enjoyable to use. ![]() The effects of the high began quickly and lasted for longer than I expected, leaving me clear-headed and focused to get work done. The high from this Delta-10 THC product was a welcome change from the drowsy and relaxed effects associated with regular Delta-8 THC products, which is why I can easily recommend this product for daytime use. I realize that this product is not yet available on the company website, but I highly encourage you to check the Drule site frequently for when it is. If you have any experience with vaping and are curious to experience a shockingly clear-headed high in a matter of minutes, you won’t be disappointed with the Delta-10 THC Strawberry Banana Disposable from Drule! In my next review, I’ll be tackling the Platinum Mai Tai Delta-8 THC Disposable from Delta Extrax, a powerhouse brand that consistently delivers premium products. What’s the news?A couple weeks ago, reports surfaced of Israel biopharma company Madrigal Mental Care’s new magic mushroom nasal spray. The new device was recently unleashed at the Biomed Israel Life Science and HealthTech conference in Tel Aviv, which is an international conference that took place earlier in May. The device is geared toward treating those with PTSD, and provides exact dosing via a nasal inhaler that goes inside the nostril. The nasal spray is a nano-technology based delivery system, which can deliver nanoparticles of psychedelic medicines like psilocybin, more directly to the brain, without going through the digestive tract. The medicinal molecules are encapsulated in nanoparticles, which themselves are biodegradable, and break down in the body to release the medicine. The nasal inhaler can be used for more than just magic mushrooms, and is spoken about for use with ketamine, mescaline, and MDMA as well. Stated cofounder and chairman of Madrigal, David Gabay, this system makes for “a significant advantage over common practices in terms of stability and accuracy.” He continued about current trials: “We are currently beginning preclinical trials with rodents with the aim of achieving efficacy and safety approvals in order to begin first-in-human clinical trials next year.” ![]() The device was designed by Prof. Amnon Sintov of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev’s biomedical engineering department. He said, “An increasing number of studies point to the advantages of using psychedelic drugs for the treatment of psychiatric disorders such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and even addiction, with low doses.” He went on, “Due to their powerful effect on the human brain, it is imperative to be able to deliver these drugs in a safe manner and in precise doses.” The current non-human trials are being carried out with psilocybin, led by Prof. Shimon Ben-Shabat from Ben Gurion’s department of biochemistry and pharmacology. The technology which was developed at Ben Gurion University, was licensed to Madrigal by Ben Gurion University’s tech transfer company, called BGN Technologies. Is this the first of its kind?Actually no. This is not the first magic mushroom nasal spray announced. The first one came out several years ago in 2019. At that time, Silo Wellness out of Oregon created its own magic mushroom nasal spray for use with PTSD and depression. The device was developed in Jamaica, where magic mushrooms are legal and openly sold, and provides for metered dosing of the active component psilocybin. At the time, according to board advisor Becky Rotterman, “Many psilocybin patients, particularly women, complain of upset stomach or vomiting when taking high-doses of mushrooms… We want to bring this wonderful natural medicine first to Oregon and then the flyover states – to those who would be afraid to eat a handful of fungi and who feel more comfortable seeing their medicine in a familiar delivery modality, such as a metered-dose nasal spray.” While this certainly doesn’t say much for what a person expects treatment to look like, or the implication that people are actually happier with what looks like a pharmaceutical, over what looks like nature, this nasal inhaler marked the first of its kind concerning the delivery of psilocybin nasally. ![]() Mike Arnold, the founder of Silo Wellness, said he created the device after his first experience with psilocybin, in an effort to make it easier for people who don’t have the luxury of benefiting from a medical setting, for their experience. “I couldn’t help to think how fortunate I was to have an actual physician take me on my first trip rather than ‘some guy’ I know, but I realized that most first-time users don’t have that luxury,” he said. “I reached out to my long-time colleague from the marijuana space, brilliant inventor Michael Hartman, and we agreed that we need to be able to give patients predictable dosing so they can self-titrate into the desired levels of sub-psychedelic or psychedelic treatment.” He concluded, “We solved the age-old problem with plant- and fungus-based medicine: How do you know how much is a dose? How do you avoid taking too much, like the cannabis edibles dilemma? We also managed to solve one of the common complaints of some mushroom users: taste and upset stomach.” Much like with Madrigal, this first news story was more a press release for the product’s existence, than a new product offering. Since that time, Silo has established a patent for its product in June of 2020. The company is patiently waiting for regulation on the new magic mushroom industry to be released in Oregon, so it can begin dispensing its product. While it waits, it promotes its Marley One non-psychedelic mushroom product line. Other applicationsNow we know that magic mushroom nasal spray is a thing, but how else can magic mushrooms be taken? We know that smoking them isn’t terribly effective because psilocybin breaks down in heat. Though some say they may have felt something (not the most convincing of statements), others complained of feeling sick, or just simply being disappointed. This also makes it necessary to make teas out of mushroom powder in order to retain the effects, considering the thermal lability of psilocybin in heat. Drinking it as tea is similar to eating a mushroom, in that it still goes through the digestive tract. ![]() Skin applications are also growing in popularity. Though mushroom products on the market now don’t have psilocybin, due to regulation, there are a bunch of interesting products taking advantage of other medical benefits of non-psychedelic mushrooms. I expect when legalizations do come through, these companies will be quick to incorporate compounds currently illegal for use, into their products. Unlike eating raw mushrooms or drinking tea, skin products bypass the digestive tract. So far, injecting these compounds isn’t really a thing, though it has been mentioned in some studies. Many compounds are more easily absorbed when taken via IV or IM administration, but this doesn’t mean everything works this way. It is quite possible that as research continues, we may start hearing about mushroom injections in the future. For now, best to focus on forms of administration that are already cleared as safe for use. Skin patchesThe other application getting a lot of attention right now are magic mushroom skin patches. There are different models under testing and they come in different forms. Skin patches are a basic mode of medication delivery that are used for a range of things from pain management, to birth control administration, to help removing warts. The basic idea is that there’s some kind of adhesive, with medicine within or around it, that gets absorbed into the skin over time, making for an even dose over many hours. A couple companies are already creating magic mushroom skin patches in this way. Nova Mentis (NOVA) and Mycrodose teamed up to produce skin patches particularly for the genetic condition fragile X syndrome. Ei.Ventures and Tioga research also partnered up and are getting in on the action, with their psilocybin skin patches meant for transdermal delivery of psilocybin, as well as other psychedelic compounds. However, even this standard model is under construction. The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation (TIBI) recently partnered with Pharma Ther, Inc. (PHRM) to create microneedle patches. These patches differ in that they contain tons of microneedles on the surface layer that penetrate the skin to leave the medicine within. These patches are made of a gelatinous substance, and are currently under investigation for use with MDMA, LSD, DMT, psilocybin, and ketamine delivery. ConclusionIt’s always cool to see something new and technologically advanced come out. And it’s always useful to have better treatment options. In the next few years, we should see tons of applications involving magic mushroom usage in products like nasal spray, skin patches, skin creams, and possibly more. We’ll just have to wait to see how far this goes. Thanks for joining us!
