Let’s be honest, everyone and their mother, who has any kind of celebrity clout, has been trying their luck in the cannabis industry, setting up brands, creating products, and even offering smoking retreats. Now it goes a step further as entire hard rock band the Deftones just created their own cannabis brand. Rock band the Deftones are making their way into the cannabis world with their new cannabis brand. If you can’t get over to a location where their products are being sold, there are plenty of other options out there to choose from. And with the new industry of cannabis cannabinoids, its not just about standard weed. You can buy delta-8 THC, THC-O-A, CBN, and THCV just to name a few. We’ve got great deals, for vapes, gummies, oils, and more. Go ahead and start your holiday shopping today! Remember to subscribe to The THC Weekly Newsletter for deals on legal cannabis products, as well as all the latest news and industry stories. Also save big on Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP & HHC products by checking out our “Best-of” lists! Who are the Deftones? In a world more heavily centered around pop acts and mainstream rock, the name the Deftones is probably not that recognizable, and that’s fair. However, for those of us who have always liked things a little harder, a little more alternative, and a little more out-of-the-mainstream, then the name the Deftones should be familiar. They’re not new, coming together in 1988, and solidifying their lineup by 1993. Out of Sacramento, California, the Deftones have found themselves associated with several genres from rock to hard rock to metal to alternative to experimental. Though the lineup has changed a bit over the years, the band has released nine albums in their tenure, to much critical praise. They have sold over 10 million records worldwide. So while not the biggest band ever, certainly a well-known one in the world of rock, with a decent amount of name value that spans several decades of time. Besides creating a large cult following, the Deftones have also received several accolades for the work they’ve done. The band’s album Elite won the Best Metal Performance at the 2001 Grammy Awards, and their most recent album Ohms is up for Best Rock Performance for the 2022 Grammy’s, along with its second single Genesis being up for Best Metal Performance. ![]() They’ve also won a Kerrang! Award (UK music awards) for Best Album (the album White Pony), a California Music Award for Outstanding Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album for the same album, and a Revolver Golden Gods Award for Album of the Year for Koi No Yokan. The Deftones cannabis brandPart of what’s interesting about what the Deftones are doing, is that it’s being done as a band, as if its simply another album to put out. This isn’t a lead singer or guitarist setting up a side project of selling weed products, but an entire band, which usually makes its money by creating and selling music, making an entire band effort to create this side hustle. Whereas plenty of Hollywood elite (and some not so elite) have been starting up different kinds of operations, this is the first time that a music group consisting of several members, have started a project like this together. It’s literally like they’re treating this new weed business like it’s a tour, or a press gig, or a recording studio, all working together to make it happen. So what is the band doing? On November 24th, the Deftones announced they are putting out their own cannabis brand, aptly titled The Deftones Cannabis Collection. As an official cannabis line, which deals with high-THC marijuana, the associated products are being sold according to regulation, meaning only through dispensaries in the state of California. In the future, with changing regulations, this brand is likely to be seen in dispensaries all over the country (where its legal!) Fans of the band, of cannabis, or of both together, can follow the band on Instagram for further updates about available locations, products, and what’s to come in the future. The Deftones partnered with California based company Golden Barn to create their cannabis brand, a company which is specifically in the business of cannabis extractions, and more specifically, extractions with the much safer use of CO2. The first offering of the line is a set of products called ‘The Passenger Box’. ![]() These boxes come in variations, but include an eclectic mix of cannabis buds, concentrates, disposable vapes, and gummies. What does the band say about the box? That it smells great, and does what it’s supposed to! The box is emblazoned with the artwork from the band’s album from 2000, White Pony, for which the name ‘The Passenger Box’ is also a direct reference. The Deftones and cannabis in generalWith any band that survives for decades and has sold millions of records, it can be assumed there’s at least someone with a good business sense related to the operation. It also generally means that the band is selling what is considered a quality product, as it implies fans have continuously returned through the years. In the words of the band members themselves: “Throughout our career, it has been an ongoing mission to provide our fans with quality products. Whether it’s music, beer, or tequila, we put in the time, care and effort to make sure we’re delivering merchandise to the market that have been thoroughly scrutinized by all of us. The obvious next step in this progression is cannabis. In the foreseeable future, we will be rolling out several different products in this vertical via [Golden Barn], and we are excited to unveil our first: The Passenger Box.” Says guitarist Stephen Carpenter, who shows the boxed goods in an Instagram video, “We’ve been waiting and smoking forever, you know? To finally be able to present something we all enjoy and like is awesome.” According to the band, “[There are] nine locations that have our cannabis line in stock today in California. More will be distributed throughout the state in the following week. Stay tuned.” The Deftones new cannabis brand doesn’t represent the first time famous people have ventured into the weed business, but it is the first time I’ve heard of a full band doing it together. And apart from weed…This is not the first time the whole band has done a venture together outside of music. The band has also put out its own beer and tequila. In March of 2021, the band announced its limited edition White Pony Tequila in conjunction with Abre Ojos Tequila company. The tequila was produced in the home of tequila, Tequila, Mexico, and only 2,880 bottles were made, and were only available in certain states. ![]() In terms of beer, the Deftones have an ongoing collaboration with Oceanside, California’s Belching Beaver Brewery (Kinda cool name, right?), and in January of 2021 announced the release of Ohms Pale Ale. This relationship between the band and brewing company has been ongoing for five years, and this newest release takes its name from the Deftones 2020 album, Ohms. At the time of announcement, the deal was to sell the beer in 4-packs of 16-ounces starting in February. Sales were set for selected states in the Southwest and West coast, as well as being sold at Belching Beaver’s four locations. This follows up a previous release. In 2020, the double dry hopped White Pony IPA was released, titled also after the White Pony album, much like the tequila. The IPA was released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, and even that wasn’t the beginning. Together, the Deftones and Belching Beaver have been putting out different beers for several years, some as limited editions. Names of past releases include Good Morning Beautiful Brown Ale, Digital Bath Hazy IPA, and Phantom Bride IPA, which is still available. ConclusionI’m a rock girl, but I’ve never specifically been a Deftones fan. Even so, coming from this world, I recognized the name immediately and thought ‘well, that’s pretty cool’. I expect the Deftones are capitalizing on this name value, along with actually creating high quality products to sell (outside of their music). As mentioned, part of what makes this interesting, is that the Deftones, by operating these businesses, have become not just a band, but a justifiable business enterprise. In fact, younger generations might learn the name ‘the Deftones’ by the products, rather than the music. Perhaps this was even forward thinking for the musicians, setting up businesses for when they stop making music. Regardless of how you look at it, the Deftones are a band that cares about providing good products, and weed is the new entry on the list. Hello and welcome! “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…a return ticket to Amsterdam and THC lube”Whilst covid has tried and succeeded in ruining practically all of our plans for the last few years, there is always something hopeful about Christmas time. Yep, Christmas is finally here again. A day of joy, festivities and family. Or, perhaps, not. Maybe you love Christmas or find it sad and stressful, either way it’s coming and there’s nothing we can do about it. So, make a strong drink, eat lots of food, and start thinking about potential gifts for your friends, colleagues and loved ones. In fact, there’s nothing better than giving a gift. You get to make someone else happy, and you don’t have to feel stressed about having to pretend you like something you’re given. However, the truth is that whilst physical gifts are all well and good, nothing beats an experience. Experiences sit comfortably in our mind and make us who we are. That’s why this year, we’ve created a list of the top 10 best cannabis experiences you can buy your loved one this holiday. Christmas is such a fun time of the year, filled with decoration, good food, family and friends, and of course, recreation. For more articles like this one, and for exclusive deals on flowers, vapes, edibles, and other legal products, make sure to subscribe to The THC Weekly Newsletter for deals on legal cannabis products, as well as all the latest news and industry stories. Also save big on Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP & HHC products by checking out our “Best-of” lists! 1. LubeThe first on the christmas experience lift is, technically, an object but it most definitely leads to an unforgettable experience. Cannabis and sex most definitely have a history longer than the relationship between the loved one you may decide to buy this product for. THC has been known to enhance the senses, making sex and ogasm an even more extremely enjoyable activity. Therefore, purchasing THC and CBD lube could be the most caring and orgasmic experience you can give this Christmas. Green Matters says: “Both CBD and THC act as a vasodilator, meaning it opens up the blood vessels bringing more blood to the clitoris (erectile tissue) making your orgasms more intense and the vagina more lubricated.” 2. Return Ticket to AmsterdamIn the materialistic world we live in, some people find physical gifts to be an added object that clutters up their shelves. Stuff stuff stuff…but what about experiences? Experiences can sit joyfully in our brain and change the types of people we are. So, why not buy your loved one a cannabis experience this Christmas? Amsterdam is a cannabis-utopia and a place where enthusiasts can walk the streets freely and joyfully. With over 160 coffeeshops in the centre of Amsterdam alone, a romantic or platonic venture to Amsterdam with your loved one would be a great gift. The cost of this trip will depend on where you are based but, rest assured, it is worth it. Recommended coffeeshop to visit: Paradox Coffeeshop 3. Spannabis 2022![]() There are many festivals and events that exist solely to celebrate the wonders of cannabis and all of the many cannabinoids and terpenes it contains. One of these is Spannabis. Spannabis is a festival in Barcelona, Spain, full of food, music and fun. But, most importantly, the event consists of talks, lectures and pop-up stalls curated by some of the best cannabis-thinkers around the world. Why not give someone an experience to be part of the cannabis revolution this Christmas? A chance to make a difference and speak to the people who are making a difference every day. In a way, cannabis is a political movement. Give your loved one a chance to be part of that movement. Spannabis takes place in Barcelona from 11-13th March 2022. Tickets are on sale now. 4. Return Ticket to CaliforniaEurope vs America…the big debate. Amsterdam vs California…the even bigger debate. Well, the truth is, whilst much of the world is still fighting over whether CBD should be legal, California and Amsterdam both deserve the recognition they deserve. Nonetheless, a return ticket to California would be a top cannabis experience to buy your loved one this Christmas. Not only is there beach after beach, Los Angeles and Hollywood, but cannabis is fully legal there. California has almost 1000 cannabis dispensaries and the hot weather combines perfectly to create an ideal cannabis-lifestyle. If you’re looking for a hotter and bigger version of Amsterdam, why not head over to California with your loved one? What a gift that would be. 5. Harold & KumarWhilst Netflix and online TV dominate the world, there’s still something quite special about buying someone a DVD. It’s retro, it’s heart-felt and it promises an experience. There’s nothing quite like the experience of sitting down and watching the stoner classics Harold & Kumar. These two stars broke out in the 2000s and released several films where they would get up to mischief, usually led by their desire and search for cannabis. Most stoner films and TV shows now have learnt their craft from Harold & Kumar. Buying a gift like this will ensure that you and your loved one will set aside some time to enjoy a wholesome and hugely entertaining stoner film experience together. What better way to enjoy Christmas. 6. Glastonbury Ticket![]() If you fancy giving someone a random but inspired trip to the UK this Christmas, then why not get them the hottest ticket out there. A ticket to Glastonbury 2022. Glastonbury is the most elite and popular music festival in England and always has the biggest and best artists involved. Hosted in the quintessentially English town of Glastonbury, this festival is a place where cannabis lives in abundance. The next festival will take place in June 2022, and Billie Eilish is one of the confirmed headliners. Head over to Glastonbury, purchase some cannabis, and enjoy one of the greatest festivals to ever bless the earth. Music and cannabis go hand in hand. 7. Cannabis World Cup 2022Whilst some long for the football world cup and the rugby world cup, cannabis enthusiasts wait patiently for the cannabis world cup. Hosted in Amsterdam every year, this festival is an event with everything. “The Cannabis World Cup Festival is a three-day celebration of cannabis culture, showcasing world-leading brands, products, pioneers, workshops, technology, music, food, fashion networking events and conferences, including the prestigious Cannabis World Cup competition ceremony.” One cannabis strain comes out victorious and the winner is given the cannabis world cup. In 2022, the world cup will take place from 1st-3rd July. A ticket to this event is an elite gift that only comes from the best of the best. Why not be the best of the best this Christmas? 8. Planet Earth IIAnyone who’s ever enjoyed the wonders of THC and watched David Attenborough’s Planet Earth II will know that it is an out-of-body experience. The incredible footage, animals, sounds and narration make Planet Earth one of the best TV series ever created. But, what if you could purchase it in 4K and give it as an experiential gift this christmas? Well, lucky for you and your loved one…you can. Planet Earth II in 4K is an epic visual experience that will only be enhanced by your love for cannabis. These two go hand in hand. This Christmas experience gift is a nuanced and well-thought out one. 9. Burning Man 2022![]() Burning Man festival is probably one of the most intriguing festivals in the world. Held in Nevada, USA, in Black Rock City, this festival is more than just a cannabis experience, it’s a way of life. It’s about community and togetherness. It also has an aesthetic that looks quite a lot like Mad Max. Burning Man opens its arms to everyone and anyone, and promotes the freedom of expression. Because of this, cannabis and drugs are easily available and, if anything, encouraged. “Burning Man is not a festival! It’s a city wherein almost everything that happens is created entirely by its citizens, who are active participants in the experience.” The next Burning Man Festival will take place in 2022, and hopefully won’t be stopped by the horrors of covid. Purchasing a ticket to Burning Man as a Christmas gift for your loved one could be an absolute eye-opener for them. 10. Ayahuasca RetreatAyahuasca is a south-american hallucinogenic brew made from natural plants. Ayahuasca retreats are potentially the most mind-opening experience anyone can have on this planet. Not only that, but ayahuasca retreats are hosted by professional experts who assist you on your journey to self-discovery. These events usually happen in South America, and the best ones occur in Peru. Although ayahuasca retreats will cause people to lose control, it’s a true chance to see differently and to cleanse oneself. Although it might seem like a rogue Christmas gift, this could be the experience of a lifetime for your loved one. Conclusion – Best Cannabis Experiences to Gift Your Loved OneA physical gift and an experience gift are two different roads to go down. Some people prefer the former, some prefer the latter. Either Way, there’s no doubt that an experience will sit in your memory for many years after. Therefore, why not get your loved one a cannabis experience this Christmas? Perhaps you can experience it with them. Merry Christmas. Welcome! In fact, for some, it’s the worst time of year. Whilst, on the other hand, others find it to be the best time of the year. Mclean Hospital writes: “According to the American Psychological Association, 38% of people surveyed said their stress increased during the holiday season, which can lead to physical illness, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse. The reasons given: lack of time, financial pressure, gift-giving, and family gatherings” That’s why introducing cannabis into your December holidays might be ideal. The two most commonly-discussed cannabinoids, THC and CBD, both have effects that could add to your season’s celebrations and help with potential mental niggles. These include feelings of euphoria, giggliness, relaxation, sensory-enhancement, anti-anxiety and open-mindedness. Some believe that all uses of cannabis have at least some medical purposes – even if someone only has a puff of a THC joint to feel less socially anxious. Of course any consistent use of cannabis for medical purposes should be researched and perhaps even prescribed, but nonetheless, you might be surprised by how the wonders of cannabis can aid you this Christmas. So, how about these cannabis Christmas cookies? DecarboxylationBefore we delve into this beautifully tasty recipe, it’s first important to explain the meaning of decarboxylation. If you already know the meaning of this integral word then feel free to skip to the delicious recipe, but if you perhaps don’t then listen closer. Decarboxylation is key to the making of any cannabis-infused food. But what is it? Well, have you ever tried to eat a raw THC cannabis bud and been surprised that there was no effect whatsoever. Perhaps now that would seem ridiculous, but when you were younger maybe you did give it a go. Well, the reason it had no effect was because the cannabis had not been decarbed. CBDA or THCA are the two cannabinoids before decarboxlyation, and these cannabinoids don’t have any psychoactive effects. However, the moment they are heated up over time, their potential is unlocked and they become the well-known THC and CBD. To simplify, heating cannabis unlocks its popular effects. That’s why cannabis is smoked, vaped, or heated and cooked if put in any edibles. Therefore, you cannot just throw some cannabis on top of a cookie and expect anything to happen. No. Cannabis needs to play an integral part in the cooking process. Let’s take a bite into this recipe. Cannabis Christmas Cookie RecipeDelicious special cookies, with a hint of vanilla and Christmas Note: Remember, it’s your choice which strain of cannabis you choose. It’s also your choice which cannabinoids and terpenes you decide to include in that strain. Do keep in mind that this recipe is assuming that the strain you choose has a THC percentage of around 20%. If it’s a lot more, then consider your portions and the potency of the cookies. What you’ll need:
Method to the Madness:Step 1 – Grind the cannabis into a finely ground substance. The smaller the pieces, the quicker and easier it will decarboxylate. Step 2 – Preheat your oven to 220 fahrenheit. Step 3 – Spread the cannabis evenly over some parchment paper in an oven tray and place it in the oven. Leave it there for 50 minutes, but make sure to check up on it every 10 minutes and mix it around. This will ensure it doesn’t burn. At the end, the cannabis should look a brownish green colour. Take the cannabis out, put it in a bowl, and place it to one side. Step 4 – Preheat the oven to 350 fahrenheit. Again place parchment paper over a flat oven tray. Step 5 – Pour the butter and sugar in a large bowl and beat it until it’s creamy. This should take about 1-2 minutes. Step 5 – Add the vanilla and egg, and continue to beat until all of the ingredients are beautifully combined. Step 6 – Chuck in the flour, salt, baking powder and, of course, the decarbed cannabis. Start mixing again, but do it with care. It will feel drier now. Keep mixing until it is all combined but a bit lumpy. Step 7 – Spread some flour over your kitchen surface or chopping board so you can roll out the mixture without it sticking. Then, begin rolling out the mixture (dough). You should aim for a thinness of about 0.5cm. Keep throwing flour over it when necessary to avoid stickiness. Step 8 – Once you have successfully rolled out dough, use your cookie cutter to press out the shapes. These will be the cookies. Any shape is fine, although we suggest Christmas tree shaped cookies. Step 9 – Now you have the shaped cookies, you can carefully place them on the pre-heated parchment paper. Then, put them in the oven. Cook these in the oven for 10 minutes. The cookies should begin to look golden. Step 10 – Take the cookies out of the oven and allow them to cool completely. This is the final cooking process. What Should I Have Them With? So, now you have some beautifully tasty cannabis Christmas cookies. These cookies taste of vanilla and have a lovely sweet taste but perhaps you’d like something extra to go with it. Understandable. Well, we have some suggestions for you. Vanilla Ice CreamPlace a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of one of your cookies and serve it like that. This will ensure that no one has a dry mouth. Maybe even consider throwing some strawberries on top too if you fancy. Melted ChocolateMelt some chocolate (white, black or milk) in a saucepan and drip it over the cookie. Again, this will add some sticky, delicious wetness to your pudding. Silver balls & Icing sugarPlace some icing sugar on top of the cookies and decorate it with silver balls. This will definitely match the Christmas aesthetic. Chopped Banana & CreamChop some banana up and place it on top of the cookies. Then, douse it with some tasty cream. PlainOr, finally, maybe consider just keeping the cookie plain. They’re tasty enough on their own, and the euphoric cannabis side-effects should make them special enough. ConclusionWhether you love Christmas or despise it, look forward to it or dread it, these cannabis Christmas cookies should put a smile on your face. Cooking can be a fun venture, if you enjoy what it is that you’re creating. These cookies are easy, fun, and creative. Plus, you know that by the end you’ll have a pile of delicious cannabis cookies that you can share with whoever you want this Christmas. Or, have them by yourself and watch a film. It’s up to you. Christmas is about relaxing. Christmas is about family. Christmas is about love. Christmas is about whatever you want it to be about. It’s only a day afterall. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2021/12/23/best-cannabis-christmas-cookie-recipe/ “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…CBD pain relief cream and a cannabis cookbook”After what seems like a decade of covid-related stoppages and issues, Christmas is finally here again. A day all about love, family and togetherness. Or, perhaps, not. Whether you love Christmas or find it unbearably stressful, there’s no doubt that a nice strong drink and a funny gift is something we can all look forward to. This year, we’ve created a list of the top 10 best cannabis products you can buy your loved one this holiday. Whether you’re buying it for a partner, work colleague or distant relative, there is something in this list for everyone and anyone. Merry Christmas. 1. Grinder![]() The first gift on our Christmas calendar is the common cannabis grinder. Every cannabis lover needs a decent and reliable grinder. Without finely ground cannabis, it can be harder or less enjoyable to smoke or vape your product. There are many types of grinders out there, but the best ones utilise all parts of the cannabis – including collecting the often-forgotten kief. This is usual with a 3 or 4 piece grinder. Grinders can be the difference between wasting and utilising your beautiful THC. Recommended purchase: Hem Grinder 2. Dry Herb Vaporizer![]() Whether you call it a dry herb vaporizer or a weed vape, this device heats up dry cannabis buds and turns it into vapor. It’s healthier and easy to use. Plus, the temperature of a vape can seriously unlock the flavours of the many terpenes you cannabis holds. It could be the first time your loved one truly tastes their cannabis. There are many weed vapes out there, with varying specialities, so make sure to do your research. Recommended purchase: Pax 3 3. 510 Thread Vape![]() Whilst we’re on the subject of vapes, it’s important to mention the alternative to a dry herb vaporizer: the 510 thread battery. This device heats up liquid cartridges, rather than dry buds or concentrates. You can purchase CBD, THC, THCP, E-liquid or basically any cannabinoid type cartridges. For those of you who prefer purchasing cannabinoid cartridges, perhaps this option is better for you. Again, it’s healthy and tasty. Recommended purchase: PCKT TWO 4. THCP Cartridges![]() If you’ve purchased a 510 thread vape, then you’re going to need some cartridges to go with it. There are many types out there, containing various combinations of cannabinoids. However, the THCP cartridges made it onto this list because it’s supposed to be stronger than Delta-9, Delta-9, Delta-10 and even THCO. If you want to find out more, click here. Recommended purchase: Binoid THCP Bundle 5. CBD Cream![]() Now, whilst of course cannabis has its recreational enjoyment, great Christmas gifts also include self care products. Luckily, the popular cannabinoid – CBD – has proven to have some quite remarkable pain-relief effects. Whilst cannabis is more commonly inhaled or ingested, CBD cream can also be consumed through the skin. Whether your loved one suffers from arthritis or other skin conditions, CBD pain relief cream could be the caring gift they need this Christmas. Recommended purchase: Blessed CBD Balm 6. Rosin Press![]() Next up on the list we have an industrial beast of a machine. Is your friend, loved one or family member a fan of cannabis concentrates? If you’re unaware, cannabis concentrates are concentrated THC cannabis, which are a lot stronger than usual dry buds. In fact, some the average wax or shatter will contain around 50-70% THC. If you want to know more about cannabis concentrates, click here. But, what if there was a machine that allowed you to make your own concentrates? Well, there is: the Rosin Press. Through hydraulic or pneumatic force, the rosin press will heat and crush your buds into beautifully potent concentrate. You can then place it into a joint or a dry herb vape. This is the perfect gift for your more cannabis-esteemed loved one. Recommended purchase: Nectar Pollen Puncher 7. Rolling Papers![]() Now, some people like to smoke cannabis the old-fashioned way. No vapes or machines, just paper, THC, and a lighter. For those people, good, reliable rolling papers are essential. Rolling a joint can be made a lot easier by sturdy and easily-rollable papers. Plus, the joint needs to burn well and burn consistently, otherwise the whole experience could be a huge let down. Therefore, Raw rolling products are the best choice. This company sells products that are natural, plant-based and contain no additives. There really is no other competition. So, purchase your loved one some quality rolling papers this Christmas. Recommended purchase: Organic Hemp Papers 8. Smell-proof Bag![]() Cannabis is a complex plant and within it, there are around 400 compounds. Around 150 of those are called terpenes. Terpenes are what give cannabis its incredible flavours and scents. Whilst these tastes and smells are beautiful and define what cannabis is, they can be problematic at times. The smell of cannabis is an extremely identifiable scent, and one that does not always go down well. Perhaps you’re living in a country where cannabis is illegal, or perhaps you don’t want people to know that you’ve got some on you. Either way, every cannabis user deserves a smell-proof bag this Christmas. Recommended purchase: Firedog Smell Proof Bag 9. Bong![]() Taking a hit from a bong is unlike anything else. Whilst vaping and smoking has its negatives and positives, bongs are in a league of their own. Bongs are able to create a large amount of smoke by using a water filtration system and a large base. The hit you can get from a bong is often much more potent and extreme than anything you’ll get from a joint or vape. It’s an experience. In fact, you can make a bong out of pretty much anything, and people have. Whilst glass bongs are probably the most popular, the ceramic bong is the one we recommend today due to its aesthetic and classiness. Not only does this device offer an original experience, it also can sit trendily on the mantelpiece. It’s a vass and a bong. Why not get one of these products for a loved one this Christmas? Recommended purchase: The Land Yacht 10. Cannabis Cookbook![]() The final Christmas gift is all about food. As per the agreement, Pfizer will own all outstanding shares of Arena, which they purchased for a total of $100 per share. This marks their eighth major acquisition over the last 20 years. Like with most other beneficial compounds, big pharma is looking to take over cannabis too. Only, when pharma comes in, you get much less of the natural healing compounds and a whole lot of synthetics and derivatives. That said, now is the time to shop for products, while we still can. Pfizer and their rise to famePfizer Inc. is a multinational, American-headquartered, pharmaceutical and biotech corporation based in Manhattan, New York City, NY. The company was founded by two German immigrants in 1849, Charles Pfizer and his cousin Charles F. Erhart. By the 1950s, Pfizer was now a global company with offices in Canada, Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom, as well as many locations throughout the United States. In 1960, their major US research facility was moved from New York City to Groton, Connecticut. In 1980, Pfizer released its first billion-dollar product – Feldene (piroxicam), a prescription-only anti-inflammatory treatment. Their next major product to receive approval was Diflucan (fluconazole) in 1981, an oral medication used to treat several types of fungal infections including candidiasis, blastomycosis, coccidiodomycosis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis, dermatophytosis, and pityriasis versicolor. In 1989, Pfizer accidentally created one of their most popular medications, Viagra. Initially intended to treat high blood pressure and angina, early trials showed it was not effective for these conditions. It did, however, have an interesting side effect. Trial volunteers reported increased erections after taking the medicine. It was patented for this purpose and received approval from the FDA in March 1998. By the end of 1999, Pfizer had already made $1 billion off Viagra sales. Along with Viagra, Pfizer also released Zoloft around the same time. Zoloft is a highly controversial anti-depressant that has been the central focus of hundreds of lawsuits. At the heart of many cases was an increased risk of violent behavior, mania, aggression, and even suicidal tendencies; the exact conditions a medication like this is supposed to alleviate. These symptoms were common at the start of treatment or anytime the patients’ doses were changed. Additional side effects of Zoloft include: agitation, hallucinations, fever, overactive reflexes, tremors; nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, feeling unsteady, loss of coordination; trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing, or breathing that stops. COVID-19 VaccineDespite their long list of existing – albeit sometimes questionable – medications and practices, it wasn’t until the start of this year that Pfizer truly became a household name in nearly every country on earth, following the development of their mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. As controversial as this vaccine may be, there is one thing that no one can deny – it’s a serious money maker. By June, the company had already made roughly $11.3 billion off the vaccine, based on their Q1 and Q1 reports. Now that the booster is available, Pfizer expects its Covid-19 vaccines to bring in roughly $33.5 billion in revenue by the end of 2021, which would make it one of their best-selling medications, ever. According to a review of 120,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations between June and September 2021, 15 percent are breakthrough cases, and that number is expected to rise significantly with the omicron variant. Some experts believe that soon, most Covid cases will be breakthroughs. A “breakthrough” case refers to new covid cases in vaccinated patients. Considering the short-lived efficiency of the vaccine, and the fact that pharmaceutical companies are pushing for boosters every six months, there’s certainly a lot of money to be made in the vaccine game, for those who were able to get a foot in early on. Who is Arena Pharmaceuticals?Arena Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company based San Diego, California and founded in 1997. Their main area of study, up until now, has been in the fields of autoimmune, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal diseases and they’ve been working on different small molecule medicines for these conditions. The cannabinoid medication they’re formulating is called Olorinab (APD371). It’s an oral medication that will function as a full agonist of the CB2 receptors. They are researching the effectiveness of this treatment against numerous different health conditions and symptoms, but they are focused primarily on visceral pain associated with gastrointestinal illness. In other, non-cannabinoid areas of the pipeline, Arena has been working on medications for the treatment of many different immuno-inflammatory diseases, heart conditions, gastroenterology, and dermatology. Currently, all their drugs are still in the development stage. About the $6.7 billion all-cash deal“The proposed acquisition of Arena complements our capabilities and expertise in Inflammation and Immunology, a Pfizer innovation engine developing potential therapies for patients with debilitating immuno-inflammatory diseases with a need for more effective treatment options,” stated Mike Gladstone, global president & general manager, Pfizer Inflammation and Immunology. “Utilizing Pfizer’s leading research and global development capabilities, we plan to accelerate the clinical development of etrasimod for patients with immuno-inflammatory diseases,” he added. Etrasimod is Arena’s prime future treatment option for immune-mediated inflammatory disease. President and CEO of Arena Pharmaceuticals, Amit D. Munshi, stated that they are “thrilled” to have been acquired by Pfizer, and remarked on “Arena’s potentially best in class S1P molecule and our contribution to addressing unmet needs in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. Pfizer’s capabilities will accelerate our mission to deliver our important medicines to patients. We believe this transaction represents the best next step for both patients and shareholders.” Big Pharma Entering Cannabis SpaceAs big of news as this is, it’s not the first example of a large pharmaceutical company getting involved in cannabis, and it certainly won’t be the last. Most recently, earlier this year, Jazz Pharmaceuticals purchased GW Pharmaceuticals, a cannabinoid drug company from the UK that developed Epidiolex, the first FDA-approved CBD medication. It has also earned approval in Japan and most of Europe. Epidiolex is used to treat two rare forms of childhood epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome. Back in 2018, Tilray, a major Canadian-based cannabis corporation, finalized a supply and distribution deal with Novartis AG, a Swiss multinational pharmaceutical company. Johnson & Johnson is also eyeing the industry, and has even allowed cannabis company Avicanna to utilize their 40,000-square-foot research facility, Innovation JLABS@Toronto. This type of setup can provide startups with flexible and stable labs to test products, without the “investor” actually taking a financial stake in the company. Final ThoughtsThe main takeaway here is that big pharma is very familiar with the benefits of cannabis, and once it’s federally legal, large pharmaceutical companies will be making major moves in the medical sector. With companies like this, it’s all about the money, and they’re just waiting for the right time to pull the plug. But keep in mind that the minute real THC (not synthetic) is used in a pharmaceutical drug, it can no longer be sold as a wellness supplement or recreational product. So if the day ever comes that pharmaceutical companies start using plant-extracted THC in their formulations, the industry as we know it will cease to exist. Hello and welcome! Hang those stockings up, get a little too tipsy in front of your grandad and put on a cosy, Christmas film to finish off the day. That’s right it’s Christmas, and here at CBD Testers we wanted to run down some of the most fuzzy and festive movies available for you to watch as you sit back, relax and enjoy some of Santa’s special cookies as we count through the top ten best Christmas films to watch whilst high.Christmas is such a fun time of the year, filled with decoration, good food, family and friends, and of course, recreation. Now, that can mean something different for everyone, but for me personally, it means good weed, good movies, and spending time with the people I love. We hope you enjoy our list of our favorite Christmas films. Right off the bat, The Night Before is probably the only film on here that may have been written whilst high on cannabis. The Night Before is Seth Rogen and the gang’s attempt at a festive film hits some of the marks. It’s the night before Christmas and a group of friends head to a big old Christmas rave as Joseph Gordon Levit’s character has no family to spend the night with. Hilarity ensues as things get more and more ridiculous. Lots of Cannabis is smoked and the whole film feels like a more adult attempt at a Christmas movie. It might not be to everyone’s taste, but if you want something to just chill out to and laugh at, Rogen has you covered… plus it’s free on Amazon prime so there’s that. 9. The Santa Clause1994’s The Santa Clause may seem an odd choice to get high to, but trust me when you see chimney scenes as well as the journey to the North pole, you’ll understand why. Tim Allen stars as Scatt Calvin (SC, get it?) a man who accidentally causes the death of Santa Claus. After putting on his jacket he himself signs a cleverly titled Santa Clause which means he must now become Santa. Another genuinely funny Christmas film, full of some great performances from an ensemble cast. This film also happens to have my favourite representations of reindeer in the sarcastic, flatulent animatronics. David Krumholtz as Bernard the Elf is another highlight. 8. A Christmas Carol, Robert Zemeckis Version![]() The bell strikes midnight as we have our first adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol on this list, from the mind of Robert Zemeckis. Known as well for the equally festive Polar Express, Zemeckis makes Dickens’ classic a whole lot darker than other versions (I’m looking at you Muppets). He adds back from the original novel, the personified versions of ignorance and want in a very surreal scene. We also have an exceptionally trippy moment when Scrooge is thrown into the future and sees his own funeral preparations. This adaptation might not be to everyone’s taste and the animation falls into the uncanny valley at some points, but it is still a romp and Carey’s performances alone as Scrooge and all three ghosts, make this a must see stoned Christmas film. 7. Chicken RunPerhaps a new name to readers from the States, or anywhere outside of the UK. Chicken Run is one of Aardman Studios’ (of Wallace and Gromit fame) first feature length animated films. It features a set of clay-mation chickens fighting for their lives in a WW2 inspired chicken farm/prisoner of war camp all in the style of The Great Escape. Full of dry British humour, as well as a star turn from Mel Gibson, playing a cocky American rooster who promises to teach the Chickens to fly, this film is shown every year around the Holiday season on British TV. This of course being in itself exceptionally British, for what sounds more christmassy than a film about Chickens trying to escape a farm? I’ve put this on my list of Christmas films to get high to as it really is very funny and can only be heightened by enjoying it whilst high. 6. Nightmare Before Christmas![]() Tim Burton’s festive Magnus Opus. A darkly comic telling of an original tale about how Jack Skellington, the reigning king of Halloween town accidentally finds the neighbouring Christmas town. Chaos ensues as Skellington goes a bit Christmas mad, trying to take over the holiday and run it himself. Superbly animated, with that idiosyncratic Burton flare, this film is as haunting as it is festive, some of the characters are actually quite scary (Oogie Boogie, the boogeyman still freaks me out). The bright colours and intricate set designs will make you cannabis Christmas party all the more interesting as there really is a lot to look at with this film. Rated 95% fresh on rotten tomatoes, it is a hit that everyone will enjoy. 5. Love ActuallyNow for something a little more romantic. There are literally thousands of romantic Christmas movies out there, but I felt that Love Actually was the only one that firmly deserved a spot on my list. This best of British classic features so many iconic actors, moments and jokes that it would be impossible to leave out. Who doesn’t well up at the ending when the boy runs through the airport? Who doesn’t smile when Hugh Grant does his dance routine to ‘Jump’. It’s a classic through and through and something to get you especially warm and tingly as the cannabis kicks in. 4. ElfWill Ferrell outdoes hims-elf (ho ho ho) in this Christmas cracker of a film. One of the most laugh out loud funny movies that is genuinely heartwarming as well. In this John Favreau classic, a human sneaks into Santa’s sack and is raised by elves in the north pole. Very quickly Buddy out grows his peers and it becomes clear that he doesn’t quite fit in. We follow his adventures as he returns to New York City to find his father and to fit in at last. With excellent performances from Zooey Deschanel, Will Ferrell and James Caan, as well as a 85% fresh rating on rotten tomatoes, there’s a reason Elf is at the top of my list. It’s the perfect film to get a little giggly at due to it’s pretty zany sense of humour (I’m talking about the raccoon clawing Buddy’s face). If you haven’t seen this christmas romp already, thank me in the New Year. Available on Amazon, but sadly not prime however it’s only a few dollars and very much worth it. 3. Home Alone![]() Of course it had to be Kevin McCallister and his big night in. We’ve all seen it and I reckon it’s about time to watch it again, as this is one of the all time feel good films for the christmas season. If MaCaulay Caulkin in his heyday, fighting off home invaders with an incredibly inventive set of weapons, then you need to recharge your christmas spirit. Everyone as a child had a dream of setting up their own intricate booby systems as much as everyone secretly dreamed they’d be left behind from a family vacation to have the whole house to themselves. So spark up, grab some snacks and shout your ‘Kevinnnn!!!’s for all to hear. 2. The Muppet Christmas CarolWhere would a list Christmas films be without arguably one of the best muppet films ever made. This film is so canonically christmassy that I refuse to feel festive without first seeing Kermit and co. tackle Dickens’ classic tale. Not only is the film well made, but exceptionally well cast with each muppet being a perfect fit for the role they were given. Kermit’s cratchit is perfect and Gonzo and Rizzo as a double act narrating team tie together this well loved adaptation. This was one of the first muppet films to be made after Jim Henson’s death and they more than do him proud. It also would be impossible not to mention Michael Caine’s powerhouse performance. In a role that he could have coasted and taken the pay-check he delivers a touching journey from Mean old Mr Humbug all the way to the changed Scrooge at the end. Light up and prepare to sing along to this Christmas classic. One thing to watch out for is that some of the muppets are already a little trippy in their designs, so could be a little overwhelming if you’re too high. 1. It’s a Wonderful LifeGet the tears ready as we end on the emotional powerhouse that is ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’. The oldest of all the Christmas films on our list, being made in 1946, It’s a Wonderful Life is the story of a down on his luck man, George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, who asks the question ‘What if I’d never been born?’. An angel shows him how the world would be without him and he sees the errors of asking such a question. Powerful, moving and classic, if you want a film to watch that’ll really make you love and respect those around you then look no further, this will leave you warmed to the core. ConclusionHopefully you’ve found your perfect movie to get high to this festive season from this pretty eclectic list. Make sure to wrap up warm as it is cold outside, oh and let’s hope you’re on Santa’s Nice list this year, although he did appreciate those special cookies you left him last year. It really helped him on his way for Christmas eve. Merry Christmas from CBD testers! Welcome! The post Top 10 Christmas Films to Watch High appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2021/12/22/top-10-christmas-films-to-watch-high/ In a recent posting by the Minnesota Cannabis Association, in relation to conversations they say took place between them and a Department of Agriculture representative, it’s once again stated that CBD and cannabinoids are not, and were never, legal. This should not come as a shock to anyone, and it says a lot about news reporting, if it does. While legally, CBD was never above-board in the US under federal law, there are still plenty of ways of enjoying CBD products, as well as other cannabinoids like delta-8 THC, HHC, and THCV. In fact, with today’s cannabinoid market, these products can be bought outside of dispensaries and are even in stores in illegal states. We’ve got great products available to get you through this holiday season, so check out what we’ve got on offer to make it a truly jolly holiday. The 2018 US Farm BillAll of the confusion surrounding CBD and other cannabinoids stems from the 2018 US Farm Bill. To call it ‘confusion’ is a bit short-sited, as these are basic, and easy-to-understand legalities that no legal department would ever have a problem comprehending. As every company has some form of legal representation, including most publications that erroneously repeat lines about legality, I think it’s safe to say that legally, everything I’m about to go over, is plenty well understood by those who need to understand it. The 2018 US Farm Bill legalized the production of hemp for hemp products. It did this by creating separate definitions for low-THC ‘hemp’, and high-THC ‘marijuana’. As per the law, the definition of ‘hemp’, which is actually ‘industrial hemp’ is as follows: “The plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of the plant, whether growing or not, including the plant’s seeds, and all the plant’s derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.” This definition made it possible to begin hemp cultivation for industrial purposes. What it most certainly did NOT do, was legalize synthetically derived products of any kind, or legalize anything to be taken internally or used as a medicine or health supplement. Whereas hemp cultivation moved under the regulation of the USDA from the FDA, anything involved with foods and medicines/supplements were not moved, retaining their regulation from the FDA. As such, anything synthetically derived from hemp (including the entirety of the cannabinoid market excluding CBD), and anything meant for food, medicinal, or supplemental purposes (including CBD), are not federally legal according to the FDA as cannabis – including CBD not for industrial purposes, has never been legal in recent times under prohibition laws. This is not unclear to anyone with a legal degree, and is pretty well understandable without one. How many companies selling these products under claims of legality by the Farm Bill don’t retain a lawyer? How many government, and non-governmental agencies don’t consult legal representatives? Exactly! Despite it not being difficult to understand this, a misunderstanding has been waged in the media in the form of a storyline by which no one with any legal understanding, seems to be able to understand basic laws. This is done to be able to push products, of course. And since the goal isn’t to scare the public away with realities of unknown chemical additives, dangerous processes, and product contamination issues, all of which run rampant in these illegal, unregulated markets, the black market literally created itself black market testing to back up its black market products. What does this have to do with Minnesota? There has been a logical back and forth between government and different organizations and businesses. The answer is always the same: these compounds are not legal. Maybe because they’re synthetically made (doesn’t matter if some material is from the hemp plant, if other parts are not), maybe because they’re not legal as a medicine or supplement, or maybe for both reasons. Back in September of this year, the Alabama Board of Pharmacy was responded to about the legality of delta-8 upon request for information. Of course, the DEA literally only repeated what it had previously said, as its original statements were, indeed, clear enough. A synthetic is not covered under the definition of ‘hemp’. Even this clarification was made the opposite in the press, with headlines claiming it actually proved legalization. This time around, it was Steve Brown, a member of the Minnesota Cannabis Association board, who apparently ‘stumbled’ onto this legally well-understood information. This came at the mention of a tincture, in reference to a question about processing facilities. According to Brown, “They stated later in the meeting that tinctures are illegal… Then this morning I received information from the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, sent by a colleague.” Apparently a representative from the Department of Agriculture explained the following: “The problem here is some of the products you’re mentioning here, Steven, would not be legal food by our definition… The reason for that is all these other cannabinoid products are governed by the Board of Pharmacy.” The Board of Pharmacy in Minnesota takes its cue from the FDA, which means, the only legal hemp products in the state are hemp seed oil with no THC or CBD, and hemp flower that tests under .3% THC. The thing about a ‘medicine’ is that it must be approved by the FDA in order to be considered one, and the thing about ‘supplements’ is that once an official medication exists, the active ingredient cannot be advertised as a nutritional supplement. How do we know CBD was never legal? While this may not make sense, and is greatly in the benefit of big pharma, it still exists as law that the active compound in an approved medicine cannot be marketed as a nutritional supplement in any food or beverage product. Supplements are currently regulated as food by the FDA. And since the drug Epidiolex (pharma CBD) was approved in 2020, it is now illegal to put CBD into supplement products. Epidiolex was approved by the FDA on July 31st 2020. This was done in the middle of a worldwide vote to reschedule cannabis, which resulted in CBD being removed from Schedule IV of the Single Convention on narcotic Substances, making it available for legal medical use globally. Of course, ‘medical’ use varies by country, and what some see as a supplement, others see as a prescription medication. Imagine that, just as CBD became okay to use as a medicine (and supplement depending on definition), the US approved a pharmaceutical medication that would keep it illegalized for every industry and company outside of big pharma. So, much like France, which was short-sited enough to go to court with the EU over blocking natural CBD products into the country, while openly selling Epidiolex, the US government is saying out of one side of its mouth that CBD is just fine, and out of the other side, that its totally against it. In terms of other cannabinoids like delta-8 THC, THCV, HHC, CBN, regardless of whether they are naturally occurring or not, if they only occur in small enough amounts to require synthetic processing to make enough for products (all the natural ones do), they’re automatically going to qualify as synthetic. As synthetics were never legalized, and as analogues of Schedule I substances like delta-8 (an analogue of delta-9) are regulated under the Federal Analogue Act, such compounds, much like CBD, were never legal. While CBD is therefore legal in a legalized state, the synthetically made cannabinoids still aren’t, because they’re synthetics. No state law varies from federal regulation on this, so states setting separate laws for illegalizing delta-8, like Colorado and Vermont, are doing way more than they have to, since by both federal and state law, the compounds aren’t legal. ![]() Says a lot about trying to stamp out an industry that such states would make separate laws. And all this, when they could simply regulate how certain compounds are made to ensure safety. Delta-8 THC has never shown an issue of worry in its natural form, so working to illegalize it, rather than regulate it, is a strange move, and one that only makes sense in my mind, if its being held back for use in a pharmaceutical market later. Considering how far other countries have gone to suppress natural CBD, while pushing Epidiolex, it’s not that hard to imagine this is true. Is there a loophole?Despite confusion created by the press, there is no legal loophole here with either CBD or other cannabinoids. The confusion created centered around the idea that anything that came out of a hemp plant of less than .3% THC was legal for whatever use was desired. As if all those other provisions in the Farm Bill related to the definition of hemp, didn’t exist at all. Realistically, it’s all in the definition itself, and what it does and does not include. Having said that, there is another type of loophole, which has more to do with dealing with consequences. In this case, it’s about the lack of them. Even if something is illegal, if there isn’t a real threat of being caught or paying consequences, then is it really illegal? The obvious answer is yes, it still is, but the other aspect is that it can also be gotten away with, and that’s incentive to do it. Maybe the US government is waiting for some kind of market collapse and pharma/biotech buyout of the current industry before going after the black market to support a new legal pharma-owned one. And maybe there is no intention of doing anything for lack of money or popularity for losing drug wars. Either way, at least at this juncture, the US government is making very few moves to enforce the illegality of any of this, which in and of itself has created a loophole for production, sale and use. They might not be legal, but CBD and the rest of the compounds, sure fit into a no-one-will-do-anything-about-it loophole. ConclusionTo be honest, it makes very little difference whether CBD and other cannabinoids are legal, or if they were never legal at all. The markets are there, and aren’t suffering consequences for being there. For buyers, it’s best to know your products and brands to ensure quality, as unregulated markets spawn a lot of dirty stuff. The post Minnesota States the Obvious: CBD Was Never Legal appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2021/12/22/minnesota-states-the-obvious-cbd-was-never-legal/ “The foundation of every state is the education of its youth” – DiogenesEducation is crucial. Wherever you’re from, however much money you have, knowledge is what creates a fair and even society. It’s a lack of knowledge and a lack of education that can lead to misjudgements. People fear what they don’t understand. People hate what they don’t understand. People misuse what they don’t understand. Like any difficult-to-discuss topic, cannabis education is often thrown under the carpet and forgotten about. Much like sex education, many nations leave it to be dealt with by itself and expect that not to lead to a potentially dangerous relationship with it. The truth is, educating the youth on topics like drugs and sex will lead to a better understanding of it and, hopefully, a better and more knowledgeable existence with it. This is what Jamaica seems to be doing with cannabis education. A country that has such a lustrous history with cannabis, has decided to take a step further and put cannabis education at the forefront with their new campaign: Good Ganja Sense. Is this a good idea? What does this entail? Is this a model for other nations to copy in the future? Let’s delve into it. Jamaica has always been a cultural epicenter for cannabis, but legally, they have fallen behind many other countries. This ‘Good Ganja Sense’ campaign aims to change that through widespread education. Make sure to subscribe to The THC Weekly Newsletter for deals on legal cannabis products, as well as all the latest news and industry stories. Jamaica & CannabisThe relationship and history between Jamaica and cannabis is special. Cannabis was welcomed into the country in the mid 1800s by servants from India who came during the British rule of both Jamaica and India. The term ‘Ganja’ actually came from these Indian servants and is, in fact, an Indian term. The term ‘Ganja’ is now the most popular and common phrase to describe cannabis in Jamaica. RastafarianismAfter the introduction of ganja into Jamaican lifestyle, next came Rastafarian culture. This was and still is a black religious consciousness movement. Created and found in Ethiopia, Ratarianism translates to mean ‘revered one’ or ‘respected one’. Cannabis is used in the religion’s ceremonies and meditations. Cannabis is an integral part of the religion. Leafly states: Rastas gather to smoke the “holy herb” and discuss moral quandaries while passing the ganja clockwise around the circle. In times of war, the passing of the ganja is done counterclockwise to connect with “Jah,” the singular God that Rastas worship. Rastafarians understand how cannabis can open the mind and lead to a deeper understanding and faith. They see it as the key to understanding. Bob MarleyIt is believed that around 60-70% of Jamaicans use cannabis regularly. It is an integral part of society, perhaps more than any other nation. Only around 1% of Jamaica is Rastafarian, however, it’s not only religion that increased the popularity of ganja in Jamaica. In fact, Bob Marley was also an integral reason for this. Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer-songwriter who wrote incredible reggae music over the 70s. His band, Bob Marley and the Wailers, and their popularity spread the use of cannabis and rastafarianism around the world. They sold around 20 million records. The 2015 Dangerous Drugs Act AmendmentBefore 2015, ganja was completely illegal in Jamaica. Whilst it was still used often by Rastas and other people, the actual substance was not allowed and users could face fines and prosecutions. However, in 2015 the Dangerous Drug Act Amendment caused a change in Jamaica cannabis law. Under the new regulations, possession of 2 ounces or less of cannabis was no longer a criminal offence. However, it may result in a ticket, similar to a traffic ticket, which the possessor will have 30 days to pay. Furthermore, people who defined themselves as Rastafarians are now able to apply for authorisation to cultivate cannabis for religious reasons. It was a big step towards cannabis legalization, but people started to believe that drug education had not caught up with cannabis law. That is where Good Ganja Sense stepped in. The Good Ganja Sense CampaignIn response to this new change of drug law, and a slow response in cannabis education, the National Health Service of Jamaica made it their goal to improve the education around ganja; both in its benefits and its potential risks. What Actually Is It?The Good Ganja Sense campaign is a website that contains a lot of information, written by professionals, that focuses on the world of cannabis. Its aim is to make people more aware, through well-written, evidence-based articles, about the truths of cannabis. Who Are They? The company and initiative is run by Michael Tucker, who is the director of NCDA. NCDA stands for the National Council on Drug Abuse, which is a public agency run by the Ministry of Health in Jamaica. Therefore, this is a government plan and government initiative. This is important to realise as not all governments around the world would have the confidence and belief to create something like this. The website states that because of the 2015 Amendment: “This legal change has made it necessary for us to double our efforts to address the challenges of the culture of use and misuse of the ganja in Jamaica, especially among young people.” When the State Minister, Juliet Cuthbert-flynn, was interviewed about the initiative, she said: “We are in a digital world where people are finding information for themselves, and the information may be false or it very well may be true, depending on where they go…Ganja will no longer be underpinned by what has been passed down through oral traditions and old tales, but fact-based information that is now available at the fingertips. “ So, what do they actually want to do? What do They Want to Do?The Good Ganja Sense campaign contains slogans like ‘go with the science’ and ‘burn ganja myths’, which highlights exactly what they want to do. They want to separate the truth from the lies. With cannabis becoming so easily accessible to young people, they feel a duty to educate them better in the substance. The GGS prioritises four main objectives that they have.
The GGS website mentions the importance of proper knowledge about medical cannabis. The truth is that cannabis is and can be used to treat a variety of medical problems – both mental and physical – and more people need to be aware of this. Articles & InformationThe Good Ganja Sense website promises to give well-informed information to those who they believe need to read it. They have a few different articles that have been fully researched and written in detail. Here are a list of these articles
“Due to ѕосіеtаl pressures, mаrіjuаnа саn bе оnе of thе hardest substances to gіvе up. Thе іnсrеаѕіng ѕосіаl ассерtаnсе оf mаrіjuаnа contributes tо this in thе same wау it contributes to аlсоhоlісѕ not wanting to quit”
“A significant segment of the population does not know that there is a difference between decriminalization and legalization.”
“The 2016 NHS study found that 28% of the population 12-65 years reported that they used ganja at some point in their lifetime” The articles contain a lustrous amount of information that both proves cannabis’ range of benefits and its shortcomings. They are a perfect example of a balanced view on cannabis, which in this day and age, is perhaps hard to find – especially from the government. My Thoughts on Good Ganja SenseSo, the question is, what does the Good Ganja Sense campaign actually mean? Well, living in the UK, and also being aware of the types of cannabis education that happens around the world, what Jamaica is doing seems to me to be something extremely special and unique. It’s one thing decriminalizing cannabis, but it’s another thing making it your priority to teach the new generation about it. The world has learnt a great deal about cannabis in the last decade, and Jamaica has made it their aim to ensure their population knows as much as they can. Not only that, but they’re putting their trust in the people. Rather than laying down strict laws and not speaking about ganja, they’re allowing people to make up their own mind. That is a world I want to live in. A world where we are given the facts and the information, and we can then decide for ourselves whether cannabis is a substance we want or not. Good Ganja Sense is a revolutionary idea, and I hope the rest of the world follows suit.
