Cannabis Week just came to a close and, like every year, there was much to learn and observe at the nation’s largest B2B industry conference. One thing that stayed in the back of my mind going into the show, was an article that I read after last year’s event, The Boys Club: A Female Perspective on Cannabis Week in Vegas. Now, let me preface this article by saying that my goal is never to discredit another woman’s experience, but in the last few MJBizCon’s I’ve attended, I have not experienced the level toxic masculinity that was described in this article. This year I made it a point to keep an eye out for some of the issues that Gordon discussed. So, what was this woman’s perspective on MJBizCon 2022? Read on to find out. About the ConferenceLet’s quickly cover the basics of how the convention went, from a more general standpoint. First of all, it was noticeably smaller and less busy than last year’s event. As a member of the press with more of bird’s eye perspective here, my initial take was that business might be slowing down for many companies. Considering the oversupply issues on the West Coast and the overall struggles facing the industry, that’s an easy conclusion to reach. ![]() However, when talking to people individually, I was pleased to find that nearly everyone reported better networking opportunities and larger deals being closed than in years prior. As far as who was there, the convention floor was split into four pavilions the busiest areas seemed to be in the preroll/paper/blunt wrap sector, as well as packaging. Add to that, the High Times after party with Method Man & Redman was so much fun! Aside from the implication food would be provided and sadly, it was not, the party was everything we anticipated it would be and more… a fun, laid back atmosphere with smoking, drinking, music, and socializing with great people. A “Boy’s Club”?Now, on to more pressing issues. What does it feel like to be a woman attending MJBizCon in Las Vegas? Honestly, in my opinion, it feels like being a woman at most other cannabis industry conventions in the United States. There is a certain vibe in Vegas that has some people acting a bit more extreme there than they would in their hometowns or other cities, but that’s to be expected (and let’s be honest, it’s one of the reasons many of us enjoy Vegas conventions so much). I also have the added benefit of having lived in Sin City for a few years during my early 20s, so I’m relatively accustomed to the madness. Thanks for making your way over. Check through the options, and pick what works best for you! Regarding the article from last year, this was a quote that really stuck out to me: “A frat boy party culture has begun to permeate the legal industry, distracting the narrative from the true potential of plant medicine. A culture where blatant sexism and harassment are commonplace, and testosterone-fueled pissing matches have become more prevalent. A culture, while perhaps a product of our society, is on track to potentially destroy the integrity and passion that generations of legacy operators have built in the shadows. And while sexism in the industry is nothing new, it’s become more visible than ever before thanks in part to legalization.” Now, I can’t say there is no truth to what she claimed here. Some industries have a crazier air about them, and cannabis is just one of those industries. And we all know that some people can be downright creepy and inappropriate. But overall, I found that most men I spoke to were respectful, focused, and there to talk business like the rest of us. It might just be my opinion, but I do believe that because MJBizDaily (the news site that operates MJBizCon) was founded by a woman, it serves as a reminder of how much we can accomplish in the industry. There is a massive level of respect for founder and former CEO, Cassandra Farrington, as we all know the convention would not be possible without her and her team of strong women that helped build it from the ground up. Female Representation in CannabisOne thing that Gordon mentioned, which I also find disturbing, is the dwindling number of women in upper-level positions in the cannabis industry. This didn’t used to be the case a few years back. To the contrary, female representation was greater in the cannabis industry than the general populace. But according to MJBizDaily’s most recent Women & Minorities in the Cannabis Industry report, female executive representation is down to 22 percent right now, an all-time low from just under 37 percent in 2019. And now, it’s also well below the national average of roughly 30 percent. The cause for this drop remains a mystery, but it’s concerning nonetheless. Not only is it disappointing on a human-rights level, but according to a recent study, companies with women in executive positions are 30% more likely to outperform other companies. So the lack of representation is disappointing on a financial level also. Final ThoughtsOnce more, my intention is not to discredit anything that other women may have gone through. But I do feel it’s important to offer multiple different views on the subject, so people – especially women – don’t make the decision not to attend based on someone else’s experience. Like it was stated in Gordon’s article, many claimed they would be skipping MJBiz altogether because they “know what happens there nowadays and don’t want any part of it”. But it’s worth keeping in mind that the majority of people seemed to have a good time and many important deals were struck. It’s still the best place to keep up with current industry trends and get your business’s name out there. So, with that being said, we’ll see you all at MJBizCon 2023! Hello and welcome readers! We appreciate you making it over to Cannadelics.com; where we work hard everyday to bring you fully-rounded coverage of the growing cannabis and psychedelics spectrum. The cannabis plant is beautiful but complex. For centuries it was left untouched by humanity, growing freely in all corners of the world, before suddenly it was being used for hemp raw materials, spiritual ceremonies and enjoyment. One of the prominent cannabinoids within cannabis is THC, which gives the well-known high effect that many desire. But how much do you actually know about THC? We’re going to be taking you through its traits, the way it works on the body and how the rest of the world views it. Let’s go. THCTHC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol, is one of the more dominant cannabinoids within the cannabis plant. There are over 500 discovered compounds inside cannabis, around 100 of these are cannabinoids. These are responsible for the effects that the user experiences. There are also over 100 terpenes within the plant, these are what give it its flavor and aroma. As more nations begin legalizing the substance, there is far more research being done to fully understand it. To put it simply, THC is the psychoactive chemical that causes the majority of the effects that come from consuming cannabis. Psychoactive cannabinoids have mind-altering effects, whereas some do not. The plant secretes resin containing the cannabinoids through the glands, and this is where the ‘high’ derives from. Differences to CBDThe other prominent cannabinoid within the plant is CBD, also known as cannabidiol. It is derived from the hemp plant, which is like a close cousin of marijuana – which contains mostly THC. Funnily enough, the two cannabinoids have the same chemical structure. This includes 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms and 2 oxygen atoms. However, the ways in which they are arranged is what makes them intrinsically different. This difference means that CBD is not psychoactive, whereas THC is. In essence, CBD does not have mind-altering effects like its cousin. There is no high. However, it is still used commonly in medical cannabis practices, due to its relaxing effects on various physical and mental ailments. Due to the fact that CBD is not used recreationally, it has been legalized in the majority of the world. CBD edibles and beverages are everywhere these days. However, THC has been a much slower burner. The specific way it works on the body – triggering the well-known ‘high’ – has made it unpopular and harder to legalize. CannabinoidsThere are over 100 cannabinoids within the cannabis plant, and more are being discovered frequently. Some of these include: THC, CBD, THCa, CBDa, CBN, CBC, THCV and many others. Most cannabinoids do not get you high, but this does not mean they do not all combine together to create certain effects. Even CBD – whilst not psychoactive – will influence the way that THC reacts with the endocannabinoid system in the body. As more research is being done, newer products containing less common cannabinoids are being released. Thanks for making your way over. Subscribe to our Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter for regular updates straight to your email, along with great deals on awesome merch including marijuana flowers, vapes, edibles, smoking devices, and cannabinoid compounds. Check through the options, and pick what works best for you! For instance, Binoid have products that contain THCV, which is supposed to be stronger than THC. The world of cannabinoids might seem overly confusing, but really it is just an example of a bunch of lab coats messing around with the structures of the cannabis plant to see how it changes its effects. The important thing to remember is that cannabinoids need to be heated in the decarboxylation process in order to be activated. This is how THCa becomes the psychoactive THC. Without this process, cannabis is basically inactive. THC and the BodyAll cannabinoids work on the body in mostly the same way. However, it is their individual traits and chemicals that will trigger different reactions. The endocannabinoid system – which are cannabinoid receptors – are located in different areas of the body. When cannabis is consumed, the cannabinoids bind to these receptors and activate changes in their memory, pleasure, concentration, time perception and overall senses. THC links specifically to receptors in the brain, which controls mood, appetite and other feelings. CBD, on the other hand, works mainly on the body, causing relaxation. As the THC stimulates the cells, it triggers dopamine release, which can create feelings of euphoria. The effects it has on the receptors can also cause some hallucinations, depending on potency. Here are the common effects or feelings of THC: Positive Effects
Negative Effects
Is THC Dangerous?Like with any substance, moderation is crucial. There have been cases where the overuse of THC has caused problems. First of all, smoking any substance can damage your lungs and major organs. Combustion, the process of lighting a joint, releases dangerous toxins and cancerous carcinogens into the body. However, if you vape your cannabis, you avoid the process of combustion. ![]() This makes it far healthier for you. Consuming cannabis through edibles is also an even healthier option. There have been cases where the over consumption of THC has caused mood swings, anxiety and dependency. It is always important to keep track of your feelings when using cannabis, in order to fully know how it’s impacting your everyday life. Medical BenefitsWhilst THC gives users the desired ‘high’ they want, it also is being used more and more in medical practices for the benefits it has. The way it works on the endocannabinoid system can also help massively with physical and mental pains. The FDA in the US have approved two synthetic formulations of THC that can be used to treat certain ailments. Nabilone and Dronabinol are both used for treating cancer symptoms and pains. THC can help with a variety of issues:
Potency of THC in CannabisA lot of people wonder how much THC is in a normal batch of cannabis. Well, of course it depends on where you’re buying it from. In Amsterdam or California, where their market is booming and full of variety, there is a great deal of choice. However, if you’re in a country that has yet to legalize THC, the chances are you’ll be scraping the barrel of whatever’s available. It also depends on how you’re consuming the cannabis – the percentage of THC in flower buds will be a lot less than in concentrates. BudsCannabis buds are the common way of smoking or vaping THC. It usually takes around 2-10 minutes to feel the effects, and this can last around 1-3 hours. It is usual for a batch of bud to contain around 15-20% THC. ConcentratesConcentrates are made by using heat and force to extract the potent parts of cannabis from the bud. The likes of wax, resin, budder – are all concentrates. These are usually smoked or vaped also, but they can be much stronger. The average concentrate will have a THC percentage of anywhere from 50-80%. EdiblesEdibles, like cookies or cakes, contain infused cannabis. These go through the digestive system, which takes longer for the THC to have its effects. It can take up to 1-2 hours, but it can last around 6 hours. These are usually done in mg of THC contained. The usual amount in a single dosage is around 15-20 mg. Is THC Legal? In the last decade, cannabis has been legalized in many countries and states. 21 out of the 50 states in the US have now legalized the use, sale, production and cultivation of THC. In Europe, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Malta and soon to be Germany have all changed their views too. Canada is another nation that has fully accepted the plant. However, there is still much of the world that has yet to approve THC as a legal substance. Nations like India, China, the UK, France, Spain, Russia and many others are still resisting. But for medical practices – mainly involving CBD and no more than 0.3% THC – most of the world has legalized it. It seems evident that the tide is changing towards the full legalization of cannabis around the world, but it may take a decade or so more before this materializes. Fortunately, as more nations change their views on the substance, more of these benefits are being released. THC is one of the main elements of this. Whilst it does cause the ‘high’ that everyone loves, it also has medicinal purposes too. Although, like with any psychoactive drug, it should be taken with knowledge and mindfulness. Hopefully – as the tide changes – THC will one day be a cannabinoid that is accessible everywhere. The post What is THC? The Cannabis Plant’s Most Abundant Compound appeared first on Cannadelics. Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/11/25/what-is-thc/ As Black Friday is finally here we all what that means – deals! Let’s take a quick look at the newest cannabinoid to hit the store shelves, HHC and find the best Black Friday HHC product deals. Whether it is vape carts, gummies, disposables or even edibles, HHC is everywhere and it is not going to leave any time soon. Continue reading to learn more about HHC, how it works, what the benefits are, and where you find the best HHC deals.Let’s start with some hard-core science, you can always skip that part and go directly to the Black Friday HHC deals (scroll down and find them). What is HHC?Honestly, while this product is now everywhere, the available reliable information on HHC, scientifically known as 9-Nor-9β-hydroxyhexahydrocannabinol, is still limited and somewhat contradicting. Let’s start with whether it’s natural or synthetic: well, it can be both. There is a biologically active naturally occuring (−)-hexahydrocannabinol, as well as its synthetic enantiomer (+)-hexahydrocannabinol. As the name suggests (Hexahydrocannabinol vs Tetrahydrocannabinol), HHC has many similarities to THC. Simply put, HHC is a simplified version of Delta 9 THC without any double bonds. With HHC, all the double bonds have been broken and replaced with hydrogen (AKA hydrogenation). Both HHC and D9 have very similar molecular structures and comparable effects. It was discovered during research in the 1960s and 70s which aimed to find the most basic cannabinoid-like substances that could still bind to CB receptors. Can you protect HHC with a patent?Kyle Ray, Chief Operating Officer at Colorado Chromatography Labs, says his company recently filed a process patent for the development of Hemp derived Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC). According to Ray, “Cannabis indica was collected from five different localities of Pakistan and analyzed for medicinally active compounds by GC-MS. The biologically active chemical compounds amongst the naturally occurring cannabinoids are delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) which were present in all samples in high percentage. The highest percentage of THC present was 23.84% and that of CBD was 54.48%.” He added that, “Other cannabinoids quantified were: delta 9-tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), cannabivarin (CBV), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabipinol (CBP), cannabigerol (CBG), hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), and cannabinol (CBN). The main objective of the study was to investigate biologically active compounds of Cannabis sp. from various localities.” HHC and drug testingWhen it comes to cannabis, standard urine tests are common for detecting use ranging from roughly 1 to 45 days. Occasional users will typically be clean after 1-5 days, regular light users will take about 1-3 weeks, and for heavy daily users, expect 4 to 6 weeks to get clean. Contrary to popular belief, standard urine tests don’t screen for the THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in cannabis, but rather, they detect the metabolites created by the human body when we are exposed to THC. This class of metabolites is known as THC-COOH. These metabolites are nonactive, so drug tests are only measuring exposure, NOT impairment. Marijuana impairment cannot be detected through any kind of test thus far. THC-COOH, or “carboxy THC” is the most common name for this metabolite. It’s the second THC-metabolite formed in our bodies, following hydroxy-THC, immediately after exposure. THC-COOH is lipid-soluble, meaning it’s stored in our fat cells making it detectable in our systems for much longer than other substances, those that are water soluble for example. Since HHC and Delta-9 THC don’t share the exact same structure, HHC might not show up on drug tests, which makes it very attractive for some audiences. However, as this theory never been tested, it’s better to be safe than sorry… So don’t use HHC carts if you need to pass a drug test anytime soon. HHC Products Available for Black FridayDespite being relatively new to the cannabis scene, HHC is steadily becoming one of the more popular alt cannabinoids in the consumer sector. That said, there isn’t a lot of research or data on HHC to determine effects or whether it’s safe or not, but the market has already adopted this new compound and products are everywhere (even in countries inEurope, such as Czech repoblic, where HHC is the only semi-legal recreational drug, as THC is still on the process of becoming legal). It’s assumed to be generally safe, as all naturally-derived cannabis compounds are. But since most of these minor cannabinoids only exist in trace amounts in the plants, they are often converted from other cannabinoids, like CBD, therefore, it’s no longer hemp-derived HHC, it is synthetic HHC. With so many new products, brands, and companies on the market, it’s hard to know exactly which products have true, lasting quality and potential, as opposed to the low budget passing fads. If you’re willing to experiment a bit and test some stuff out, there are quite a few options as far as recreational HHC products. Companies like Binoids, Delta Extrax, Karma Hemp, Delta Munchies and many others are already trying to win this market with HHC vape carts, disposables, tinctures, and gummies. Many users describe HHC as feeling very similar to Delta 9 THC but more uplifting, floaty, and euphoric. Overall, it has been well-received by most in the community and industry.
