On the 8th September, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom passed away from old age. She had reached the impressive age of 96 and had reigned for 70 years and 214 days. This single woman had ruled as queen through many key moments in British history, and many mostly dodgy prime ministers. It was a sad day for countless people, with around 2 million people lining the streets to show their respects to Queen Elizabeth II. Nonetheless, as a UK citizen, I couldn’t help but watch the proceedings and think: what did the Queen actually do? Other than supposedly bringing in millions of pounds through tourism. The death of anyone – except perhaps a cruel dictator – is always a sad occurrence, but I have never really understood why the monarchy exists in the UK and what powers they actually have. Today, with respect to her majesty herself, I want to delve into the law powers the royal family possess – specifically looking at whether they have the ability to change drug laws. The question is: is there any point to the monarchy, or are they simply the last remaining piece of evidence that the UK clings on to prove that they were once a global empire? Whilst I myself am part of the rather large minority that believes that the monarchy should be abolished, It does not mean that I do not respect a woman who, in a lot of ways, could have done a lot worse. On the 6th February 1952, after the death of her father, King George VI, Elizabeth II became Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Overall, she was the second-longest reigning monarch in history, as well as being the longest-lived sovereign ever – which is a huge triumph in itself. Before taking the crown at the young age of 25, she actually insisted on doing her bit for the war effort. At only 18, she joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service – learning to drive and gaining abilities in vehicle maintenance. However, whilst it was a humble decision, the experience she had was far from one of a common person. Extra History writes: “Elizabeth’s attendance was somewhat circumscribed – she was driven home to Windsor Castle every night and was taken to the officers’ mess for meals – but it was at least an opportunity to test herself against less privileged contemporaries for the first time in her life.” ![]() However, there were many positives during her reign. In 1965 she visited Germany for 10 days to symbolise the alliance of the two nations 20 years on from the second world war. In relation to international and domestic appearances, her majesty was one of the best. She understood her role, as well as her reputation, and many times she went out of her way to visit places that had not been visited by a royal before. She was a personable queen, even appearing in Hollywood films, such as James Bond and Paddington. However, the reputation of the royal family has been slowly decreasing for years and this cannot be ignored. What once made Britain what it was, now seems like a pointless leftover of a nation that cannot come to terms with the new world. The Guardian writes: “Currently, only 47% of 18- to 24-year-olds say Britain should continue to have a monarchy, compared with 86% of Britons aged 65 and over… Such disillusionment is a relatively new development. As recently as 2015, 69% of 18- to 24-year-olds said that Britain should remain a monarchy.” But to understand why some people believe that the monarchy should no longer exist, we first need to understand the power they actually What Power Does the Monarchy Have?Once upon a time, the UK was an empire that ruled over many nations in many continents and the monarchy was a large reason for this. However, now we live in the 21st century with democracy, nation independence, and common sense. The belief, amongst many in the UK, is that the royal family now exists – neutrally – in the background. They act like a nice china set of plates that you might bring out only on special occasions – like when your boss or mother comes for dinner. Most of the time they are pointless but, sometimes, you like to show them off. This is somehow enough of a reason for them to still remain there. It is believed that the monarchy brings in around 50 million annually to the UK economy through tourism. However, it is also believed that the royal family costs the British people around 102 million pounds each year. In fact, the House of Windsor is estimated to be worth 19 billion pounds, according to Forbes. As you can see, the numbers do not seem to add up. That is why it is quite impressive that the monarchy in the UK has been able to exist for so long, despite others in Europe falling. So if they still exist, what do they actually do? Well, constitutionally speaking, the royal family has complete power. They can appoint leaders, represent the nation abroad, amend or reject new laws and basically do anything. However, they do not use these powers – mostly because if they did, the belief would be that there would be a revolution and they would no longer exist. They are aware they can only remain in power if they sit in the background – as we’ve discussed. The Royal Family website describes their role: “The British Monarchy is known as a constitutional monarchy. This means that, while The Sovereign is Head of State, the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament…The Sovereign acts as a focus for national identity, unity and pride; gives a sense of stability and continuity; officially recognizes success and excellence; and supports the ideal of voluntary service.” ![]() Therefore, in essence, the king or queen of the UK will visit other nations to highlight friendship, will meet newly elected prime ministers, will do televised speeches at times of hardship and will basically drink tea and look cute. But not much more than that. This is why it is difficult to abolish them. How can you abolish an institution that basically does nothing anyway? The time for revolution or overthrow comes when a specific leadership is overusing their power, not when they pointlessly waving to the public from a Union Jack decorated vehicle. Could the Queen Legalize Drugs? The government of the UK is responsible for proposing and controlling law. If cannabis or any other substance was to suddenly become legal in the UK, it would be due to the government, not the monarchy. However, whilst it is believed that the Queen had no power whatsoever, she did technically have to approve any new law that was passed. This did lead to some controversial moments. The Boar writes: “The Guardian‘s investigation revealed that the Queen’s Consent was used to successfully lobby the government to change a draft law in order to conceal her “embarrassing” private wealth from the public.” As we’ve discussed, the royal family only works if they are neutral and harmless. But if more people begin to realize how much money they earn and how much they take from the UK economy, then suddenly the facade is shattered. This was why the Queen made an effort to avoid this happening. But did she have the power to also sway drug laws? The royal family have been known to consume harder drugs. For instance, Prince Harry used cannabis underage and even Queen Victoria potentially used the substance to help with her menstrual cramps. Plus, the Queen was technically still the monarch of Canada – who had legalized the plant – making her the Queen of Cannabis. In addition, when medical cannabis was legalized in 2018 and esketamine licensed in 2020, the Queen did not stand in the way. However, this is still the UK government doing its bit, and very slowly in relation to the rest of the world. In relation to the monarchy, the truth is that if anyone in the world is going to push for drug legalization, it isn’t going to be the royal family of the UK. Simply put, their lives have been too sheltered, upper class, and ignorant to truly understand the importance or fun of any recreational substances. In a sense, this isn’t through any fault of their own, they were simply born into it. Final ThoughtsAs a UK citizen, I am of course sad at the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She seemed like a lovely woman and I did take some comfort from knowing that she was around, doing Queen-like things. However, in my opinion, which is shared by a big chunk of the UK, the monarchy needs to be abolished. Whilst it may seem like they do no harm, they stand as a symbol of what the UK once was: a ruthless empire that believed that simply being born into the ‘right’ family can make you more important than another. In regards to drug laws, the royal family cannot do anything, as they know that any sort of unwanted meddling in UK society could lead to their eventual abolishment. However, if the new king – Charles III – fancies lobbying for complete cannabis legalization in the UK, perhaps I’ll support the royal family existing for a few more years. Hello readers! It’s great that countries like Italy are opening up their laws to allow for more things, like medical cannabis. But what happens when these laws are set up in a way that make it hard for the standard citizen in need to partake? Such is the problem in Italy right now, where medical cannabis access is being stymied by military production. Italy and its medical cannabis market are facing major access issues since the country only allows the military to cultivate the plant. This is a cannabis and psychedelics news publication featuring the biggest and most interesting stories in these growing landscapes, and well beyond. We provide the Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter so readers stay updated, as well as to give access to a bunch of awesome deals on products like vapes, smoking devices, edibles, other cannabis products, and cannabinoid compounds including new industry staples Delta 8 & HHC. Head to our ‘best of’ lists for more info, and make sure to purchase products you’re fully comfortable using. Italy and cannabisItaly is one of those interesting countries that never instituted direct laws for drug use, while it does account for drug possession. Personal possession of drugs is decriminalized, and doesn’t incur more than administrative penalties like suspension of a passport or driver’s license. A 2014 law made the designation between hard and soft drugs, with the former category receiving administrative penalties of 2-12 months, and the latter for 1-3 months. All this so long as the amount is within personal possession limits. How much is a personal possession amount? No specific answer, as this came from a court decision, and not a written law. Law enforcement is tasked with deciding if a case fits under personal possession, or if it’s drug trafficking or something else. Luckily, first time offenders are less likely to undergo sanctions, which are generally saved for repeat offenders. The cultivation, sale, and transport of drugs (including cannabis) also use the same system of punishment of hard vs soft drugs. For example, more extreme supply crimes for hard drugs carry prison times of 8-22 years, while the same things for soft drugs incur 2-6 years. Cannabis fits under the soft drugs category. For either hard or soft, a minor offense is eligible for a prison sentence of about six months – four years. ![]() In terms of cannabis, the recreational use of it is illegal, as well as cultivation and sale, according to the Consolidated Law of 1990. This law was attacked in various ways over the years in court, which led to contradictory decisions. In light of this, it finally went before the Supreme Court – and then the Court of Cassation – in order to clarify the law. The final case on the matter was about a possession charge involving a guy with two plants, and the ruling came in 2019. This resulted in the previously mentioned decision which clarified that the cultivation of small amounts of drugs for personal use, is indeed, legal. Italy passed a medical cannabis legalization in 2013, which went into effect in 2014. In order to access cannabis medications, a user must obtain a doctor’s prescription. At the time of passage, Italy wasn’t growing cannabis, making for a purely import market, which meant expensive medications for those in need. In 2014 it was announced that the Italian military would take over domestic cultivation, and in the years since then, the system has become a bit more accessible to patients, but with a major caveat. Italy and the medical cannabis access issueIt’s great to modernize laws, and give residents of a country things they need, like medicine. It’s great to try to keep production in the country so as to keep prices low for those in need. But what happens when the system is set up in a way that essentially minimizes access to the very services put out there for the public? This is what’s going on right now, and Italy is in the middle of a major medical cannabis access issue. Italy is one of the biggest cannabis markets in Europe (2nd to Germany). However, regardless of market size, there’s been a problem for residents to access this system. Even as the industry grows year over year, it succumbs to one basic problem, which has been there since the beginning. In Italy, all domestic cultivation is done via the military, and the military only. This creates a monopoly in cultivation. As more and more people want to access this system, its become evident that this monopoly is causing an impediment for patients to get what they need. Military growing hasn’t increased since 2019, but the number of people wanting cannabis medications, has. So even though Italy’s medical cannabis market is second biggest in Europe according to the number of patients within it, those patients are having an increasingly hard time getting their medications. How bad is Italy medical cannabis access? That Italy is most certainly not meeting demand is an understatement. Italian journalist Fabrizio Dentini was able to get data from the Italian Ministry of Health, according to the publication Businesscann.com. In terms of last year, the military grew 101.90 kg of weed, which is a huge 175% increase from 2020, which had paltry growing numbers of only 37 kg (likely a result of corona). However, that big increase still put production at lower rates than pre-corona times, when in 2019 the country produced 123 kg. ![]() Plenty of cannabis is sold in Italian pharmacies, but most of it is still imported, which means higher prices for buyers. In fact, military growing hasn’t accounted for more than 20% of sales at most, and that was back in 2018. In 2019, 2020, and 2021, domestic production accounted for 14%, 3%, and 8% of sales respectively. According to Dentini of these numbers, “The figures speak for themselves… In fact, if compared to the 1,400 kilos estimated by the Ministry of Health as national requirement for 2021, the military agency only managed to cover 8% of the 1,271 kilograms concretely distributed during the same year.” He goes on to explain, “The monopoly production regime de facto fails to carry out the functions for which it was put into operation, and the lack of production authorisations for the private market blocks the development of a healthy and competitive production chain.” When the military sells to pharmacies, it does so based on estimated production costs, and sets limits for how high the price can go. These prices are lower than import prices, making it easier for patients to afford. Though no formal numbers exist for how many medical cannabis patients there are in the country, estimates put it at about 20,000 residents. In March of 2021, it was reported that as many as two million patients in the country could benefit from cannabis medications. Technically Italy does provide medical cannabis access to patients, but the majority that’s accessible, is much higher priced. While a few medical conditions are covered completely by healthcare in the country, everyone else must pay out. And this limits how many people can realistically use the service. What about a legalization?Sometimes these issues lead to new reform measures, and its possible this could happen here, especially since Europe is moving toward recreational legalizations. If nothing else, the country is looking to cement the laws around that 2019 decision allowing home-growing. In 2021, the Lower House’s Justice Committee approved a text to decriminalize up to four plants for home cultivation so long as its for personal use. The measure also works to lower punishments for soft drug law-breaking, from up to six years, to only one. ![]() This doesn’t change the current set-up with the military holding a monopoly, or the general supply issues this creates, but it would help the sick to get what they need (as the ruling already does), and without going to the black market. This last point is a strong factor to Italy, as the black market is seen as an impediment to the legal one. (Technically, this is standard just about anywhere a legal market exists). However, Italy hasn’t been as quick to move in this direction, as it probably should. Earlier this year, Italy’s Supreme Court of Cassation approved a referendum measure to legalize cannabis, and which would’ve allowed the personal cultivation of plants like magic mushrooms, as well. This approval was based on about 630,000 signatures which were verified by the Supreme Court of Cassation. In order to get the measure officially on the ballot, it needed approval by that court, as well as the Constitutional Court. The latter makes sure the provision is legal per the country’s laws. Unfortunately, the Constitutional Court decided it was not a legal measure, and banned it from a vote. The referendum committee responded with, “This is not a defeat of us and of the hundreds of thousands of citizens and citizens who signed up for legal cannabis. Today’s first and foremost is a defeat for the Institutions that are no longer able to comprehend a major part of this country.” ConclusionItaly is a country at odds with itself. This was probably best exemplified by opposing and simultaneous decrees a couple years ago over the legality of CBD, one saying it could be sold on store shelves, one which classified it as a narcotic. Italy wants to minimize the black market, but is hesitant about a legal one. And while it fights with itself, the country loses money to other countries by requiring cannabis imports, rather than upping domestic production. Whether Italy opens up the cultivation market, more officially allows home growing, or both, something has to change. And if it doesn’t, the best the country can expect, is a major growth in its black market. Hello and welcome! The post Italy & The Medical Cannabis Access Issue appeared first on Cannadelics. Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/09/21/italy-the-medical-cannabis-access-issue/ There’s a big debate out there, and it’s getting out of control. While smear campaigns come out telling you to fear vaping, they often don’t include the massive detriments of smoke damage, making for strange marketing campaigns that make very little sense. Today, we’re hitting it from a logic perspective. So, here are the top 5 reasons you should vape instead of smoke. As this debate grows, it’s important to understand the facts, and to be able to put them together, as this will not be done for you in the press. Not only is it not often put out to consumers correctly, but often, a very different non-sense-making story prevails. The question of whether to vape or smoke is a big one these days. Today we’re going through the top five reasons to whip out the vape over the cancer sticks, with all associated evidence to back up why this is, even despite government campaigns telling you otherwise. What are my top 5 reasons you should vape instead of smoke? Read on to find out! Even as someone who does smoke sometimes, in the context of bongs and joints, I don’t have any interest in tasting it on another person. And if I’m not smoking anything, I definitely don’t want to. If you’re a constant smoker, you won’t sometimes taste like smoke, you always will. Sucking on an ashtray isn’t attractive or sexy. Maybe the visual of smoking has gained a level of sex appeal in our culture, but the smell and damage of it, not so much. Think of a person you like to be close to, and then think of constantly having to deal with the smell of smoke on them. If you’re breathing in smoke, don’t expect your mouth to smell or taste awesome. ![]() Yes, smell or taste. If you’re smoking, not only does your mouth taste like an ashtray to anyone putting their mouth on yours, but anyone in breathing distance is going to get a whiff of stale smoke as well. Now think of being in a loud place where someone needs to stick their face right up to your ear to communicate, maybe requiring them to raise their voice with big breathy shouts. If they’re a smoker, and you’re not, that’s a lot of smokey breath coming right at you, and I can personally attest to how gross it is. The #5 reason you should vape instead of smoke is to do away with that ashtray breath! #4 No smokey hair, furniture, hands, clothes, etc…Think of all those times you came back from a crowded event, or a club night, with your hair reeking of smoke, even if you didn’t smoke anything. Think of the deep scent of smoke in your clothing when you took everything off at the end of the night. And if you were the one smoking, the smell of it on your hands. Smoke gets everywhere, and when it’s always around, you always smell like it. Now think about your house. If you’re a smoker, and you smoke inside, every bit of your interior is getting bombarded with smoke. The air will be heavy with it, and your furniture and drapes will smell like one large ashtray. It’ll be in your carpets, the blankets of your bed, your closet full of clothes. And everyone coming into the house will smell that mild-to-extreme stench of stale smoke. Personally, I’ve never particularly enjoyed walking into that situation, or sitting inside with someone who can’t stop lighting up. And that’s just the smoke. Think about the cigarette butts that get left around, the old packages, the plastic wrapping. There’s probably ash on the floor from missing the ashtray, and there might be cigarette burns on the sofa. The walls, and your own hands, might have that yellow tint. A smoker tends to smoke a lot, even a mild one. And that stuff truly gets everywhere. The #4 reason to vape instead of smoke? To keep your life from smelling like smoke. #3 Cancer, respiratory illness, and heart disease? Not with vapingThe heading to this section is a bit dicey. I’m a proponent of vaping over smoking, no doubt, but I’d never say there isn’t a chance of long-term damage. Dry herb vapes are safer, but oil vapes are very popular, and we aren’t supposed to breathe oil into our lungs. We’re not made for that, we breathe air. So it does open the possibility that we’re going to find out later that oil in the lungs, does cause issues. And then there are the chemical additives which are put into oil vapes for a number of reasons, and that come with their own detriments. Constant exposure to them could certainly lead to the very issues in this heading. When I say it doesn’t cause these detriments, I mean, (and this is additives aside), there’s no evidence thus far of it. However, even that statement is a little unstable considering vaping to the degree its done now, especially with oil vapes, is still recent to the last five years. ![]() Having said that, I can feel the damage of smoking on my throat and lungs pretty fast. I might be more sensitive than the average person, but I don’t expose myself to more smoke than anyone else. On the other hand, I can vape all day without that damage, and without setting off an asthma attack, or burning my throat. Even with a lower quality oil vape. A recent independent UK review, commissioned by Health Secretary Sajid Javid, came to the conclusion that vaping doesn’t cause problems like cigarettes, and should be promoted in place of them. The UK sees 78,000 deaths a year from smoking. In the US, its 480,000 deaths a year. 163,700 from cancer. 113,100 from respiratory illnesses, and 160,000 from cardiovascular disease. So here it is as your #3 reason to vape instead of smoke, vaping isn’t related to the smoking issues that cause premature death. #2 Can’t kill someone else in the roomThe #2 reason you should vape instead of smoke, isn’t even for you. One of the most ridiculous things about smoking, is the complete lack of respect a smoker must have for those around them, to continually subject other people to a habit that can kill them. There were nearly 110,000 overdose deaths in the US in 2021 according to CDC preliminary data. 41,000 people die every year simply from hanging out with smokers. Maybe those numbers are uncomfortably close, as one has nothing to do with a person using a dangerous substance. 41,000 people a year deal with the detriments of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory issues, not because of their own bad habit, but because of the people around them. Think of what that means. If you’re a smoker, and you have a spouse, and children, and a dog, all of those entities are subjected to your smoking. I’m not saying every smoker is a selfish jerk, but it does bring up a point. If a person is willing to continue with something that so badly hurts them, why expect that person to be understanding of the similar pain they’re causing in another? When you consider the massive denial that smokers must experience, it stands to reason that it takes a lot of pushing aside reality to be okay with this. Secondhand vape deaths don’t exist, meaning if a smoker switches to vaping, they’re automatically doing something beneficial for everyone around them. Your #2 reason to vape instead of smoke? So you don’t kill the other people around you. #1 You’re not breathing in the product of fireOne of the most unsettling aspects of this whole vape debate, is how badly information is contorted to push a point, even by government entities. Smoking damage isn’t because tobacco is some horrible plant. Tobacco is like many other plants, and has plenty of medicinal benefits that have been used for millennia in different cultures. The way to make it dangerous? Light it on fire and breathe it in. ![]() Smoking damage comes from breathing in the products of combusted material, and it doesn’t matter what that material is. There are way worse things to smoke than tobacco. Consider smoking plastic, or actual wood. Tobacco sold in the standard tobacco industry is certainly a chemically-laden mess, with many of these added compounds also bad when smoked. However, concentrating on that misses the point; a cigarette smoker is undergoing constant smoke inhalation when smoking. You know that term? ‘Smoke inhalation’? The same one we associate with burning houses and wild fires? Well, that’s no different than smoking weed or cigarettes. It’s often mistakenly said that weed is safer to smoke than cigarettes. This misses the point of the real danger of smoking as well. Of course smoking weed is just as bad. But a joint, pipe, or bong smoker is way less likely to fill their lungs constantly with smoke. The average cigarette smoker smokes about 14 cigarettes a day according to Statista (the majority grouping is 10-19 cigarettes a day), with each cigarette requiring approximately 11-26 puffs according to a 2020 study. That makes for an average of 18.5 puffs per cigarette. That’s 185 -351 times a day to fill the lungs with smoke, just looking at average numbers. Consider that plenty of people smoke way more, sometimes two packs a day, or even higher. When it comes to really worrying about the massive 480,000 deaths a year from smoking damage (direct or secondhand), it means understanding what to worry about. As long as tobacco is pointed to as the culprit, all tobacco products – including vape products, are demonized. When looking at it in terms of getting away from combustion, it makes vaping the clear winner, regardless of whether its an oil vape or a dry herb vape. That’s the thing about vaping, it means that fire and burning are never a part of it. And more than anything else, not breathing in the products of fire (or subjecting anyone else to them) is the biggest plus of vaping over smoking. ConclusionWhen it comes to the question of whether you should vape or smoke, it’s certainly a personal decision. When making it however, you might want to consider the points above. Nicotine isn’t deadly, but it is addictive. If you’ve got to feed the habit, maybe best to do it in the healthiest way possible. For you, and everyone else around. Hello readers! The post Top 5 Reasons You Should Vape Instead of Smoke appeared first on Cannadelics. Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/09/20/top-5-reasons-you-should-vape-instead-of-smoke/ With the opioid epidemic underway, the question of how to reverse direction is on everyone’s mind. Governments are succumbing to pressure; passing decriminalization measures, and opening safe use sites, but none of this attacks the problem. Though a ketamine answer exists, its been all but ignored in terms of the general public, which is 100% unaware of this. And now, a new pain pill is under research, but is still completely untested. What is BnOCPA, and how does it measure up? There’s a new non-opioid painkiller under research called BnOCPA, and it might be a very much needed alternative to the current and awful opioid situation. We’re a cannabis and psychedelics news site which specializes in breaking news and ongoing stories in these industries, and beyond. We provide the Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter for readers to stay updated, as well as obtain access to an array of product promotions on vapes and other smoking devices, edibles, and cannabinoid compounds including the super-popular Delta 8 & HHC. Head to our ‘best of’ lists for more info, and buy yourself some awesome new swag. Why it mattersThere are a ton of pharma products on the market, and plenty for pain. Aside from opioids, which dominate the scene, we’re pretty used to our Tylenol, and NSAIDS like aspirin, and ibuprofen. For the entirety of my life, the process has been to pop a pill for pretty much anything. Skin your knee? Take a pill. Got a headache? Take a pill. That time of the month? Take a pill. It’s a wonder anyone knows what pain feels like anymore. Prior to our new-age pharma world, if you hurt yourself, you just had to deal with it. Or use the natural medicine version, which, let’s be honest, isn’t the worst. All those opioids that are causing so much problem, are all based on compounds from the poppy plant, and those compounds have existed, and been implored in local medicine traditions, for as long as people have lived in organized communities. In light of the massive addiction and death numbers of late, it’s a wonder people are more willing to pop the pill, than simply tough it out. After all, it was standard once to have children without an epidural, or to cut off diseased limbs without an anesthetic. While I’m not saying progress isn’t good, I am saying that in this case, it came with a cost. Obviously, the logic of ‘we didn’t need it before, so we don’t need it now’ isn’t the best, but it’s not worthless either. It mainly fails because if nothing else, we live way longer than humans used to, meaning an increase in pain related issues from aging, and overall more years to experience accidents and mishaps. ![]() As of right now, that issue of trying to get away from the pain, is manifesting in the form of overdose deaths from opioids. According to preliminary data released by the CDC in May of this year, 2021 had approximately 107,622 overdose deaths. And while we don’t know the exact breakdown of causes, we know that of 2020’s 93,000 overdose deaths, that over 68,000 were opioid related. That’s a lot of people dying from drugs prescribed by a doctor. How prevalent are these prescriptions? As of a 2021 analysis, in 2019, 22.1% of all US adults with chronic pain, obtained an opioid prescription within the last three months of the question. In 2017, it accounted for 191 million prescriptions. BnOCPA – What is this stuff?Right now, when it comes to dealing with chronic and extreme pain, opioids are the go-to prescription medication, though this has shown to be a very bad idea in terms of addiction rates to the medications, and accompanied overdoses. Opioids are synthetically made compounds based on the poppy plant. When compounds are taken directly from the plant, they’re called opiates, but when made synthetically, but based on the compounds of the plant, they’re opioids. Opioids include drugs like fentanyl and the main component of Oxycontin, oxycodone. Opioids assert their action by attaching to opioid receptors in the nervous system, and gastrointestinal tract. The three main opioid receptor classes are mu, kappa, and delta – μ, κ, δ, though there are 17 of these receptors currently known about. They operate as heavy pain relievers, as well as anesthetics; with prescription uses for things like diarrhea and cough suppression as well. BnOCPA is a newly made synthetic compound that recently came to global attention with the results of a recent investigation. BnOCPA, or benzyloxy-cyclopentyladenosine, is a G-protein-coupled receptor agonist (GPCRs). Research into this compound was carried out by a group of investigators based out of the University of Warwick’s School of Life Sciences (in conjunction with University of Bern, University of Cambridge, Coventry University, Monash University, and different industrial organizations). According to their study, Selective activation of Gαob by an adenosine A1 receptor agonist elicits analgesia without cardiorespiratory depression, this compound: “…is a potent and powerful analgesic but does not cause sedation, bradycardia, hypotension or respiratory depression.” This occurs because of “BnOCPA’s unique and exquisitely selective activation of Gob among the six Gαi/o subtypes, and in the absence of β-arrestin recruitment.” They go on to explain that the compound “demonstrates a highly-specific Gα-selective activation of the native A1R,” which “sheds new light on GPCR signalling,” and which “reveals new possibilities for the development of novel therapeutics based on the far-reaching concept of selective Gα agonism.” This is different from other adenosine receptors, like the A1 receptors, which though showing potential in this realm, are weighed down by side effects of sedation and cardiorespiratory depression. ![]() How does BnOCPA differ from opioids? When it comes to extreme, chronic pain, medications like Advil and Tylenol can’t help much, and we know this because enough time has gone by to understand where their abilities end. Different kinds of pain medication vary in how much coverage they can realistically provide. When looking at other options to opioids, this has to be considered, because the medication must be strong enough to solve the problem, while not including the negative side effects that lead to overdose and death. Opioid receptors are also G-protein-coupled receptors, meaning opioids attach to the same kinds of receptors as this new compound, BnOCPA. But that doesn’t mean the two different compounds create the same response, and there’s a particular reason why. G-proteins cause a lot of different effects, and drugs like opioids inadvertently set off several kinds of them because they’re not selective in where they bind. The pain-relieving effects are therefore included with unwanted effects (or side effects), as well. BnOCPA functions a bit differently in that its way more selective about where it binds, thus only triggering one kind of G-protein. This ability for selection can minimize the amount of side effects that come with the medication, hence the aforementioned ability for pain control, without causing sedation or respiratory depression. As sedation and respiratory depression lead to overdose when too much of a drug creating these actions is taken, the ability to get around this means a possible way to treat pain, without worrying about a death toll. According to lead researcher Dr. Mark Wall, “The selectivity and potency of BnOCPA make it truly unique and we hope that with further research it will be possible to generate potent painkillers to help patients cope with chronic pain.” This finding came unexpectedly. Says Professor Bruno Frenguelli of the research team, “This is a fantastic example of serendipity in science. We had no expectations that BnOCPA would behave any differently from other molecules in its class, but the more we looked into BnOCPA we discovered properties that had never been seen before, and which may open up new areas of medicinal chemistry.” What do we actually know beyond these statements? Unfortunately, nothing. While it sounds super awesome thus far, it should be remembered that this is one study on a compound that’s never been used before. It must be researched further, and undergo a slew of testing, including human trials, before anything further is known for sure. We don’t know what kind of pain it can handle, how safe it is for long term use, or if there is an addiction potential. Right now, the only thing we know is that an untested compound was created, that might provide an alternative to opioids. Why not ketamine?![]() I harp on this a lot, but for good reason. Yeah, there’s a massive issue right now with opioids killing people. So massive that to cope with it, some locations are giving up and decriminalizing the drugs, or instituting programs like safe use sites to try to minimize deaths. However, despite all measures, overdose rates are very clearly rising, indicating that nothing is getting better, and that even bigger problems should be expected in the future. So, yeah, its great that alternatives are getting some attention, but let’s be honest for a second, BnOCPA is new, and untested. Maybe it provides a better option, but we won’t know that for quite some time, because long term data requires a lot of time, or its not long term data. We can only know those answers by people using it through time, or studies that follow long-term use. Meaning since we have this problem right now, if there is another method that is tested, and safe, and which might provide extra benefits, like long-lasting relief between administration sessions, it should be used. Immediately. Right? Well, we have a drug that is comparable to opioids in terms of chronic and acute pain management. One which, like BnOCPA, has that ability for pain relief without causing sedation or cardiac depression, and which actually has the capacity to work for months after administration (find me an opioid that lasts the amount of time its supposed to, let alone longer). And yet here we are talking about a new and untested compound, instead. Maybe BnOCPA does work, is safe, and isn’t addictive, but you know what we already know works, is safe, and isn’t addictive? Ketamine. The real question when a story like this comes out, isn’t whether BnOCPA can provide a better option to opioids, but why we aren’t talking about the already tested and safe medications we actually have access to now. Sure, its great to create and research new compounds, but when it comes to an answer to the opioid epidemic, and one that is accessible immediately, BnOCPA isn’t it. However, ketamine is. ConclusionThe pharma world is a confusing place, and its not always clear why one thing is pushed and another is not. While BnOCPA might be a new contender in the opioid battle, if we really want to win this war, we need to use all the artillery in our arsenal. And right now, a new and untested compound doesn’t compare to one that’s been around since the 60’s, with accumulated use and safety information since that time. Welcome to the site! The post BnOCPA & The New Way to Kill Your Pain appeared first on Cannadelics. Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/09/19/bnocpa-the-new-way-to-kill-your-pain/ There are dozens of different ways to make CBD oil, but only a few ingredients are worthy of standing beside CBD-rich hemp extract. MCT oil is among the substances it’s acceptable to find in CBD tinctures, and this even-healthier form of coconut oil has lots of its own impressive benefits. Find out what MCT is, and learn why it’s such a great partner for CBD in tinctures. What Is MCT Oil?
Due to their shortened structure, medium-chain triglycerides are easier for your body to uptake and transform into the healthy fats it needs to thrive. Increasing levels of medium-chain triglycerides in your body by taking MCT oil is believed to have a variety of impressive benefits. What Are the Benefits of MCT Oil?MCT oil is far from just a carrier ingredient used in CBD tinctures. This substance appears to have its own array of health benefits, including: 1. Energy & Neurological HealthSince they have shorter tails, medium-chain fats are absorbed faster than long-chain triglycerides (LCTs), resulting in better uptake of energy. The brain uses an immense amount of fat to power itself every day, and your liver has an easier time converting MCTs into ketones, resulting in bursts of energy and improved cognition. 2. Source of Fatty AcidsMCT oil contains fatty acids like caprylic acid, caproic acid, and capric acid. Your body uses all of these substances to fight back against oxidative stress and keep itself healthy, and the fatty acids in MCT oil appear to be particularly useful against certain skin infections. 3. Helps Manage GlucoseFor patients with diabetes, reducing glucose levels and improving insulin sensitivity is a daily necessity. We could all do with better insulin sensitivity, however, and some studies indicate that MCT oil might help manage blood sugar levels. 4. Improves Athletic PerformanceWhen you exercise, your body produces lactate, which decreases your performance over time. Some studies indicate that MCT oil might reduce lactate production, potentially allowing athletes to perform longer and with less recovery necessary afterward. What Are CBD Oil Tinctures?CBD oil tinctures combine CBD-rich hemp extract, which is naturally quite viscous, with a carrier oil like MCT oil that makes it easier to ingest and more absorbable. CBD tinctures can also contain a wide variety of other ingredients like flavorings and sweeteners, but all that’s truly necessary is CBD extract and a carrier oil. Why Is MCT Oil Used in CBD Products?MCT oil is used as a carrier oil in CBD products because it’s an ideal consistency for pairing with CBD-rich hemp extract and it has its own benefits that synergize nicely with CBD. Like CBD, MCT oil has been researched for its potential benefits against oxidative stress and inflammation, so CBD oil with MCT may be even more effective than other types of CBD products. MCT Oil vs. CBD OilEven though they’re often used side by side, MCT oil and CBD oil are quite different. For starters, cannabinoids like CBD are unique to Cannabis sativa while MCT oil can be derived from a variety of different sources — coconut oil and palm kernel oil are just two such examples. Next, while CBD and MCT oil both appear to exert health benefits, the benefits of CBD oil are far greater than those offered by MCT oil. At best, MCT oil can be considered to offer moderate benefits, but the health benefits offered by CBD can be utterly life-changing. MCT oil and CBD are similar, though, in that they’re both often used as supplements on their own. Long before it was used as a carrier oil in CBD products, MCT oil was already used as a general supplement for diabetes and cardiovascular health. Alternatives to MCT OilCBD MCT oil may be one of the best types of CBD tinctures on the market, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only option at your disposal. Here’s some basic information on the three most common alternatives to MCT oil used as carriers in CBD tinctures:
Why MCT and CBD Oil Are a Perfect MatchCompared to other carrier oils used in CBD tinctures, MCT oil is nearly flavorless, offers impressive health benefits, and has a much more palatable texture. Since it is commonly used as a supplement in and of itself, the therapeutic properties of MCT oil are already well-established, making the use of MCT oil in CBD tinctures a joining of two beneficial substances rather than a mere arrangement of necessity. MCT oil adds its benefits to the benefits offered by CBD, and it even makes CBD more effective. The shorter the chain in a fatty molecule, the better it is absorbed in the digestive system, so when paired with MCT oil, CBD absorbs into your bloodstream at an improved rate. How to Make CBD Tincture with MCT OilEven if you already have the necessary equipment, it is much easier and more cost-effective to simply buy a CBD tincture with MCT oil and it is set up to make one in your own home. The process is messy, you’ll make more tincture than you could possibly use, and the results are almost guaranteed to be inferior to the types of high-quality artisan tinctures you can buy online. Can You Buy CBD Oil without MCT Oil?Yes, it is certainly possible to buy CBD oil that includes a carrier other than MCT oil. The only other carrier oil we could potentially recommend, however, would be hemp seed oil. Hemp seed oil offers nearly as many benefits as MCT oil, and it’s derived from Cannabis sativa — just like CBD. However, the texture of hemp seed oil is considerably thicker than the texture of MCT oil, making it considerably less palatable for most users. Over time, MCT oil is gradually becoming the standard carrier oil in CBD tincture products. CBD users simply prefer it, and it’s better than the alternatives. Where Do You Buy CBD Oil with MCT?If you’ve decided that MCT CBD oil is the best option, there’s no better source than Colorado Botanicals. Our tinctures use organic coconut-derived MCT oil as their carrier base, paired with high-purity, lab-tested broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD-rich hemp distillate. Whether you’re looking for a 750mg CBD tincture or you’d rather have something a little bit stronger, Colorado Botanicals MCT oil CBD tinctures offer the highest standard of quality and transparency. Each batch of products is third-party tested for cannabinoid levels and the presence of common contaminants like mycotoxins, heavy metals, and residual solvents. No effort is spared to make Colorado Botanicals CBD oil the best tinctures with CBD and MCTs you can buy online. What Is the Best CBD MCT Oil?The best CBD tinctures that use MCT oil as a base are as simple as possible and include the cleanest, most-tested ingredients. Aside from terpenes, flavoring agents are usually unnecessary in CBD tinctures, and be especially wary of the artificial substances PG and VG, which are sometimes used as fillers. To learn more about a CBD MCT tincture manufacturer, check out reviews online, or contact customer service. Conclusion: Is CBD Better with MCT Oil?It seems clear that pairing CBD with MCT oil makes both beneficial substances stronger. While no one had heard of hemp MCT oil a mere decade ago, it now seems perfectly clear that these two compounds belong together. Taking CBD orally can be a challenge for many people, and some carrier oils can make the flavor and texture of CBD extract even less bearable. MCT oil, however, empowers CBD tinctures to stay competitive with capsules by covering up the less-palatable aspects of hemp extract and replacing them with the light smoothness of MCT. Hemp seed oil is also often taken as a supplement, but as supplement-grade carrier oils go, MCT oil has considerably more attractive benefits. Especially notable is MCT oil’s ability to help CBD absorb faster and at a higher rate of bioavailability, benefits all CBD tinctures should ideally offer. Without MCT oil, CBD tinctures would be far less palatable, and they would even be less effective. By adding medium-chain triglyceride oil to CBD tinctures, though, both substances become stronger, and CBD tinctures become much easier and more pleasant to take. The post CBD and MCT Oil: Why CBD Oils Contain MCT Oil appeared first on Colorado Botanicals. via Colorado Botanicals https://cobocbd.com/cbd-mct-oil/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=cbd-mct-oil In July 2022, top officials from three Europe countries met to discuss the future of legal cannabis in Europe. The meeting, which gathered government officials from Germany, Malta and the Netherlands in Luxembourg, was called to discuss how to approach the legalization of recreational cannabis in a complex market with a population of more than 530 million. The European market is expected to gross more than 3 billion euro by 2025. However, as countries make moves towards legalization, key decisions need to be made about how to balance this emerging market with existing legal frameworks. Along with UN international treaties, one of the biggest obstacles is the Council Framework Decision 2004/757/JHA, which mandates that EU member states punish the production and sale of cannabis when committed “without right.” Eventually, cannabis will be legalized across the Eurozone, but that can’t happen until countries are given a path forward that doesn’t put them in breach of international and EU laws. While some countries are eager to forge that path, others are lagging behind. Legalizing cannabis has various implications in different countries, as individual member states are at different stages of the legalization process. An Overview of Cannabis Control in EuropeInternational law mandates control of cannabis plants and derivative products. In Europe, there may be permissions for medical (Germany, Italy) or industrial (France, Poland, Romania) use. Cannabis-based medicines can be permitted by EU or national authorization, but no EU country permits smoking cannabis for medical use. When it comes to penalizing unauthorized cannabis use, there is no harmonization across the EU. Each country interprets the law in accordance with local policies, with penalties in place for use or supply. It tends to be the case that offences relating to supply incur heavier penalties. Evidence suggests that police tend to register cannabis users, rather than record “minor” offenses. Some countries (Portugal) offer rehabilitation programs. Since 2000, the trend is to reduce maximum penalty for use-related offences, due to research, which does not show a consistent effect of penalty charges on use rates. In the U.K. police now issue an on the spot fine of 90BP. In Germany, it’s unlikely that possession of less than 6grams of cannabis will incur a penalty. In recent years, the number of police raids on illegal grow ops has risen, as have raids on hemp farmers and health shops selling hemp-based products. In April 2022, police in Spain raided a farm in the north of the country, destroying 400,000 hemp plants, worth more than 100 million. Though cannabidiol (CBD) products are legal to consume in Spain and most EU countries, cultivation of hemp for CBD is banned in Spain, demonstrating the complexity of the law. Overview of Europe’s Cannabis MarketSource: Prohibition Partners (PP)
In 2017, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) reported that no national European government was in favor of legalizing cannabis. Five years on, that situation is changing. Today, Malta has legalized cannabis, and Germany is on the cusp of legalizing. The cannabis landscape in Europe is changing, as a robust marketplace emerges. Here are some of the countries least likely to legalize cannabis in the near future. SPAINThough Spain is one of the main cultivators of cannabis in Europe, with both legal and illicit growers already supplying much of the continent, the country has an intricate relationship with cannabis. Along with Portugal and the Netherlands, Spain was one of the first EU countries to make some form of legal cannabis available to citizens through its cannabis social club model. ![]() The first cannabis social club opened in Barcelona in 2000, and this paved the way for hundreds more clubs throughout the country, with the majority concentrated in Catalonia. However, though they originated as non-profit clubs to service the needs of local cannabis consumers, in the last five to ten years they’ve been infiltrated by Eastern European gangs. Today, they’re profit-run organizations that take advantage of legal loopholes. As a result, hundreds have been shut down. Despite the attempt to make recreational cannabis available in Spain, medical cannabis remains illegal. The Spanish government hosted a committee in June of 2022 to rectify this situation by approving a new reform, expected to make medical cannabis available for certain conditions including cancer, pain, endometriosis, fibromyalgia and epilepsy by the end of the year. Though this is a start, it’s also a restricted system, as only specialist doctors can prescribe it, and it will be made available through hospital pharmacies. According to Carola Perez, president of the Spanish Observatory for Medical Cannabis, it won’t have any immediate impact. “Most patients will still be forced to source their medicine via clubs, black market and home grow,” she said. She added, there’s still “much to do” to bring the Spanish market up to speed with other EU countries. IRELANDIreland has one of the most restrictive medical cannabis access programs in Europe. In 2019, the Irish government launched the Medical Cannabis Access Programme (MCAP), making medical marijuana available to patients with certain conditions including multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and nausea associated with chemotherapy. The purpose of the scheme is to give power to medical professionals to prescribe cannabis to patients in need. However, the system is not without its flaws, chiefly its cost, which makes it prohibitive for many patients. One such patient is Cork woman Alicia Maher who moved to Spain in 2019 to access cannabis to treat her chronic pain. Maher does not qualify for the MCAP, as her condition doesn’t fall under its remit. Instead, her doctor can prescribe cannabis under ministerial license. However, she can’t afford to pay for cannabis there, as it’s not covered by her medical card. The monthly cost of medical cannabis in Ireland is between 1,000 and 3,000. Patients for Safe Access is an activist group in Ireland campaigning for access to medical cannabis on behalf of Irish patients. They’re calling for a reduction in the price of medical cannabis, and legislation to regulate the Irish cannabis marketplace. MCAP became fully operational in July 2021 but to date, only 12 patients have benefitted from the scheme. When compared to markets such as Germany, where more than 120,000 patients qualify for medical cannabis, it shows how far Ireland has to go. Independent TD Gino Kenny of People Before Profits said, the current system is “not fit for purpose.” The Irish government has set up a committee to review the situation but it’s likely to be many years before any real change takes place. SLOVAKIASlovakia has one of the strictest punishment regimes for cannabis in Europe. It is not permitted to produce, import or sell recreational cannabis, and breaches to this law are punishable in accordance with Slovak Criminal Code by three to ten years imprisonment. ![]() Cultivation, importation or sales of cannabis for medical use is also prohibited. Cannabis can be grown for research purposes, but the cultivator must register with the Ministry for Health, and unused parts of the crop must be destroyed. For growing plants, punishment can be as harsh as 20 years. It is possible to grow industrial hemp, however, the cultivator must show evidence that the crop is not being grown for use as a narcotic. In cases where evidence of industrial use cannot be shown, the cultivator can face jail time and fines of more than 30,000. Penalties for cannabis use are so severe in Slovakia, the country’s European MEP Michal Simecka called for an investigation in September 2021. The EU Commissioner response was to point out that individual member states are responsible for drug law at country-level. Simecka said government infighting over how to bring about cannabis reform means that any reform is unlikely to be reached there in the near future. Final ThoughtsIt will be interesting to see how Europe tackles the challenge of cannabis legalization in coming years. Right now, all eyes are on Germany as its government ministers discuss the best way to move forward with legalizing recreational cannabis. It’s predicted that once cannabis legalizes in Germany, other countries across the EU will follow suit. It’s no longer so much a question of how, but rather a matter of when. Welcome all! Aside from the fact that it’s somewhat easy to manufacture and access, there is not very much to say about Foxy, specifically. But it does open the door to further discussion on tryptamines, how they work, and why so many people are opting for synthetic psychedelics. To stay current on everything important happening in the industry, subscribe to The Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter. Also, it’ll get you premium access to deals on cannabis flowers, vapes, edibles, and much more! Head over to our “Best-of” lists to get these deals, and remember to enjoy responsibly! What is Foxy Methoxy?Foxy Methoxy (5-Methoxy-N,N-diisopropyltryptamine (5-MeO-DiPT) goes by the chemical formula C17H26N2O, and is also sometimes referred to simply as Foxy. Foxy is a synthetic, psychedelic tryptamine and the methoxy derivative of diisopropyltryptamine (DiPT). Another comparable drug called “Moxy” often gets mixed up with “Foxy”, because of obvious similarities in name, as well as appearance and effects. They are slightly different in chemical structure though (Moxy = 5-MeO-MiPT). Foxy comes in tablet, powder, or capsule form and is popular in rave and club scenes where it’s used mainly for its mood enhancing and energizing properties. It’s also said to be great for boosting libido. When it comes to the hallucinations, DiPT is interesting because the effects produced are primarily aural, whereas most psychedelics (both natural and synthetic) come with at least some level of visuals. I have never tried it, but this was one Redditor’s experience with Foxy: “I can’t say that it’s like any other [psychedelic]. The come up reminds me of LSD sometimes. It’s not visual most times. Sometimes it is though. Each time was an entirely different experience. It is quite an amazing substance.” Others describe various reactions including: “mild but fun”, “a very crazy body buzz”, “everything felt so surreal”, “incredibly intense mind melding” and “really, really horny”, (that last one came up a lot). Overall, a person’s experience will vary based on a myriad of different factors including mood/state of mind at the time of use, personality, set and setting, tolerance, and so much more. Not to mention that, as the above user mentioned, one person can use the same drug on numerous occasions and have a unique experience with different effects every single time. What we can say for sure is that for most users, it changes their mood and lowers inhibitions to some extent – but the level at which that happens is more of a your-mileage-may-vary, kind of thing. More on TryptaminesOn a broader scale, tryptamines (and all derivatives) are indolealkylamine molecules that come from Tryptophan, an essential amino acid found in many plants and animals. In humans, the digestion of dietary proteins in the small intestine leads to the release of tryptophan, which is absorbed by the intestinal epithelium and released into the bloodstream. Once it reaches the brain, the tryptophan undergoes a decarboxylation process and becomes a tryptamine compound, then presenting as a number of different regulating neurotransmitters such as serotonin and melatonin. In nature, most tryptamines are psychoactive hallucinogens. Some of the better-known ones include N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), psilocybin and psilocin, and ibogaine. 5-MeO-DMT, or toad DMT, is another popular one. Over the last decade or so, a new generation of synthetic tryptamines have emerged; one of more established one is LSD, but in recent years, drugs like Foxy and Moxy have gaining a bit of notoriety. 5-MeO-DPT, AMT, 4-AcO-DMT and 4-AcODiPT DMT are a few other synthetic tryptamines to make note of. ![]() Tryptamines act as agonists of the 5-HT2A receptor and are known for creating profound changes in thought processes, temperament, and sensory perception. Tryptamine is a partial agonist of the trace amine-associated receptor hTAAR1. Activation of hTAAR1 is believed to be a potential treatment mechanism for various mood and neuropsychiatric disorders, of particular interest is schizophrenia. Research on other hTAAR1 agonists has found that they produce anti-depressant activity, increase cognition, reduce stress, and minimize addictive behaviors. Why Synthetics? In the realm of recreational psychedelics, a large portion of users prefer to go all natural with classic entheogens like shrooms and ayahuasca. However, when availability is lacking, people seeking these types of experiences will eventually gravitate to whatever is accessible to them, and in many cases, that just so happens to be something synthetic. A few of the main reasons people may choose synthetics over natural compounds include: ease of use and dosing, discretion (think vaping synthetic cannabinoids vs smoking actual weed), and more availability. However, sometimes it’s as simple as preference and how these drugs make a person feel. For example, a lot of people prefer the effects of LSD to psilocybin, despite the former being synthetic. Another interesting selling point for synthetics, is that many of them are legal by default. On a global scale, the only tryptamines that are regulated under the 1971 UN convention on psychotropic substances are psilocybin, LSD, DMT, and MDMA. Several others are controlled at the national level in many different countries, but a bunch of the new synthetics manage to fly under the radar for years, even decades, before getting banned. For the record, Foxy is illegal in the United States. It became a designated Schedule 1 narcotic on the DEA’s controlled substances list back in 2003, but it’s been known about since back in the mid-1990s. So, Foxy enjoyed quite a few years of slipping through the cracks until federal regulators caught up; and that’s the same song and dance for pretty much every new drug to hit the streets. It’s impossible for lawmakers to create laws against something they have never heard of, and once it reaches the point of needing to be regulated, you can bet there is a large number of people who are already using it. Final ThoughtsAlthough I wouldn’t describe Foxy as a “popular” drug, it does seem to be making a comeback from its initial appearance in the 90s. I have not had the opportunity to try it, so I can’t draw anything from personal experience on this one, but from what I gathered, the high does seem to be a pleasant and unique experience, like no other. Is it safe? Probably safer than other street drugs, but as a somewhat underground synthetic, not very much information is available. Is it worth trying? Well, that’s up to you to decide. If I’m being completely honest, I prefer natural entheogens in most scenarios, but I’m not 100% against synthetics either and sometimes, the opportunity is ripe to try something new. Hello readers! The post Foxy Methoxy: What is 5-MeO-DiPT? appeared first on Cannadelics. Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/09/19/foxy-methoxy-what-is-5-meo-dipt/ Drugs and sex don’t always go hand in hand, so it’s important to know which drugs work and which drugs don’t. Whilst alcohol may make you want sex more, it’ll probably reduce your performance if you have too much of it. Cannabis might make you chill, but in reality it’s supposed to enhance the senses and make those caresses even more sensual. MDMA can make you feel love and euphoria but, for men, it’s not always too easy to get things going (if you know what I mean). But what about hallucinogens? Is it advisable or even pleasurable to have sex whilst tripping? Some people swear by it, whilst others couldn’t think of anything worse. I have my own opinions. Let’s delve into it. What Makes Sex Good? Before we can conclude whether sex and hallucinogens are a good partnership, we first need to acknowledge what makes good sex. Once we know that, then we’ll be able to see whether hallucinogenic drugs can enhance or deter those feelings. Deciding what makes good sex is like deciding what makes good food, or a good holiday, or a good film. It’s all extremely dependent on what that specific person likes. For instance, some people like slow love making, others like BDSM, and some people even like to wear a huge lobster costume. However, whatever floats your boat, surely there’s a sense that the experience wants to be enjoyed. Both parties want to feel pleasured, in whatever way that may be. So, what are the key elements that make sex good? Well, most studies and research seem to point towards similar things. There does seem to be some consensus after all. These include: TrustTrust is crucial, everything is built on this. It’s the trust that the other person will respect you, the trust that they will stay within the remit of what you both want, and the trust that this person wants to be doing this with you. The Houston Counselling Marriage writes: ![]() “There are all kinds of trust issues that can potentially crop up. Infidelity is probably the biggest one most people think about, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You may be afraid your partner will share details about your intimacy with others. Or that they don’t find you attractive enough. Or that they’re lying to you about their satisfaction.” Trust is built from honest and good communication, with both of these things sex will 100% improve. ConnectionConnection is probably the most important element to good sex. Pornography may try and suggest that mindless, connection-less sex is what makes sex sexier, but ultimately this is just for show. There’s nothing cool or sexy about not connecting and not pleasuring the other person. Anyone will tell you that the best sex has a core connection. The Guardian quotes the psychotherapist and sex guru, Ian Kerner, and writes: “If you can develop open communication around sex from the beginning of a relationship, it’s incredibly helpful…I’d find it really hot if we did this or you touched me like this…If you can visualize the sex you want to have… you’re really halfway there. It will help you be clear with someone else about what you want.” There seems to be some sort of pornographic lie that sexual partners enjoy no connection and no communication. Ultimately, with this kind of atmosphere, it’s very likely that your pleasure attempts will be stabbing in the dark. SensualThe next element of sex that keeps cropping up is sensuality. Now, some people like sex to be slow, and some like it to be fast, perhaps even rough. However people enjoy their experiences, sensuality is crucial. You want to be able to feel the pleasure you’re getting and feel the pleasure you’re giving. Sex is all about touch and the anticipation of touch. Any recreational drug that enhances the senses, is most likely to enhance the overall experience. Open-mindedOpen-mindedness is also a great asset to the bedroom. Of course it’s absolutely crucial to have your boundaries and to not feel pressured to step outside of those, but it’s also important to be open-minded about things you’re intrigued by. It’s also important to be open-minded about what might make your partner happy. For instance, sometimes individuals can find it difficult to accept sex toys into their sex life because it makes them feel less important, or less able to make their partner happy on their own. However, it’s important to allow these devices in, and to not feel like your egos have been tarnished. Again, any recreational drug that boosts an open-mind, in a safe way, is definitely going to improve the sexual experience. Loving YourselfThe next essential part of good sex is loving yourself. Feeling comfortable in your body and content with your mind is key, otherwise you may be prone to feeling self-conscious or have the inability to ask for what you so desire. The Guardian continues: “The first step to opening up is to develop self-compassion. “You turn toward the parts of yourself that you are worried about, with kindness, accepting that while they may seem scary they are also true.” Inviting someone we trust into that truth, she says, can be an incredibly liberating experience.” A sexual experience full of self hate may lead to a less than enjoyable one. You won’t expect the pleasure you deserve, and it could end up being quite the one-sided affair. ![]() FunLastly, the final element that many people discuss is fun. Fun and enjoyment is of course key. It’s okay to laugh, it’s okay to play, it’s okay to smile. Sex doesn’t need be a thoroughly serious experience. Instead, allow yourself to play. Allow yourself to experiment. Allow yourself to bask in the enjoyment. Do Hallucinogens Create Better Sex?So, now we understand the types of elements that are needed in order to have the best sexual experiences, we can now begin to look at whether hallucinogens may bring you closer to these, or perhaps further away. The first thing to mention is that drugs, whatever they are, do not go well with sex in excess. If you’re too intoxicated then it will most likely drown out any sexual experience, regardless of the substance. The essence of sex on acid or any hallucinogen is best summarised by The Mix: “High: Some people report an increased sexual awareness while having sex on LSD. Low: Trips are unpredictable because it is a hallucinogenic drug. Hallucinating unpleasantly during sex could be traumatic, while a heavy dose means a total turn off for the user.” This is the dichotomy with this kind of substance. On the one hand, it may create a quite spectacular sexual experience. On the other hand, you may fall victim to the infamous bad trip. But if you’re with someone you care about, and you’re staying within the remit of what you both want, then it should go smoothly. My ExperienceAcid, mushrooms and even toad venom have similar effects. They both sit within the hallucinogen family, which means they can create out-of-body experiences. The substance essentially turns off the brain’s default mode network, allowing imaginations and sensations to run wild. This can be the best or the worst thing, depending on how your trip goes. Ultimately, I had sex with someone I loved, so it’s hard to tell what it might be like with a stranger. However, it’s important to note that acid is not something people would often recommend taking with people you don’t trust. It’s such an intense experience hallucinating that comfortability is essential. We had decided to do it more out of intrigue than anything else and, to be brutally honest, it was probably the best I’ve ever had. It wasn’t just sex anymore, it was far more than that. Any anxieties, differences, insecurities vanished. It was like we were one – without wanting to sound incredibly cringey. We weren’t two bodies anymore, we were one entity, doing something that people have been doing for centuries. Each push, pull, breathe and thrust felt much more defined. It was like I was watching myself from my own eyes and hers. At one point I even felt like making love to myself, which was quite the odd experience. It isn’t something I could handle everyday, but for one off occasions, having sex on hallucinogens was incredible. It brought us closer together. Vice News writes of a similar experience: ![]() “Each sensation was new, each crevice felt unexplored, each thrust seemed synced with our breath, each cell of my body was aflame… It seemed like ‘sex’ wasn’t enough to explain what we are doing—it was something far more trascendental. We could’ve been at it for 2 minutes or 20 hours—I don’t quite know what it was, and an orgasm was merely a part of the package rather than the eventuality you come to.” ConclusionIf you’re interested in having sex on hallucinogens with someone you know, trust and care about then I would definitely recommend considering it. Just ensure you’re somewhere comfortable, and the right temperature. However, if you’re wanting to do it with a stranger then proceed with caution. A casual sexual experience can easily become a life-changing, transcendent event. You want to feel like you’re journeying with someone you know cares about you, and you them. Hello readers! Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/09/18/hallucinogens-and-sex/ Come on, if you’re in the world of weed, this must have crossed your mind at least once. As lay-people, we don’t always know why one drug gets injected, and another is given as a pill. Or why research studies use injections when studying compounds, but only release them using other delivery methods. Today we ask the question, can you inject weed? Like, really main-line it? And if you do, what happens? Is it possible to inject weed, and if so, how to go about it, and what to expect? We are a cannabis and psychedelics platform which covers big stories in these expanding industries, and beyond. We also offer the Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter to keep readers updated, and to offer a range of deals on products like vapes, smoking devices, edibles, other cannabis paraphernalia, and cannabinoid compounds including the crazy popular Delta 8 & HHC. You can find offers in our ‘best of’ lists, so head on over, and buy yourself the products you really want to use most. Delivery methodsThe delivery method is the method by way a drug is introduced to your system. Each drug has one, or several, delivery avenues, and often particular compounds cannot be administered in certain ways. Sometimes, a certain method of administration is possible, but frowned on. Take opioids for example. They’re usually given as a pill, but we know they can be injected, put in a patch or cream, or used in a syrup. We also know they can be snorted, but this is never the intended form of delivery. As another example, mushrooms are usually eaten or made into a tea, though new companies are now making skin patches as well. They don’t work when you inject them, snort them, or smoke them, or to such a minimal degree that using in these ways, is meaningless. Though there is always the errant experimenter, these mushroom-taking principals, seem pretty-well understood. In this case, its just about whether something works or not. General delivery modes include using pills and capsules; oils and tinctures; creams, salves, and patches; smoking and vaping; through nose or mouth inhalation; as a syrup or other liquid; or through either IV (intravenous) or IM (intramuscular) injection. Some drugs are usable in more ways than others. When looking at modes of delivery, bioavailability and toxicity are important. Bioavailability relates to how much of a compound your body can realistically use of a medication. Toxicity relates to what point a compound becomes dangerous to your system function. For some drugs, the same amount given two different ways, can elicit two different levels, whereby one method might lead to toxicity, when the other does not. For example, when weed is inhaled, the bioavailability is 10-35%. When eaten, its 4-12%. This according to a 2021 study on cannabis pharmacokinetics and mechanisms of action. ![]() When it comes to weed, we have tons of ways of getting it in us. Most of us smoke and vape, or swallow down an edible. Plenty are using oils and tinctures, and there are an array of cannabis creams, salves, and skin patches. There are also nasal inhalers. What do we not do? Snort it. We know this doesn’t work since the oil soluble compounds repel our water-soluble mucous membranes. But does that mean weed can’t be injected either? Read on to find out more. Can you inject weed?Sometimes weed comes as an oil or tincture, which is in a liquid form. Sometimes this comes in a container that looks like a big ole syringe (even if it’s oversized and not meant for injection). So what’s the deal? Can you inject weed oil or any other form of weed, directly into a vein or muscle? The official answer, is actually yes. It can be done, but is not a standard method, as it comes with some issues. Cannabis has been used for injections for some 50 years in research settings. In this capacity, IV delta-9 injections provide a major benefit in that it standardizes bioavailability between people. With IV injections, everything is absorbed, and the differences between individuals in their uptake, is less profound. So, it sounds like it’s possible, right? Yet, no one does it. Except for that small percentage of self-experiments out there. What do they have to say? Well, even they exist in rather minuscule numbers considering how widely used cannabis is. In one place, a person spoke of injecting kief by mixing it with blood, heating to dissolve the kief, filtering, and then injecting. His response to it?: “I felt extremely baked for about 5-10 minutes before it quickly wore off. This was something i did purely for the sake of being able to say i tried it, having never heard of anyone else doing it. The high was really unique, not in necessarily a good or bad way. I have had no ill effects after several hours, but i would not recommend it to anyone who isn’t VERY confident in what they are doing.” What we don’t know, is who this guy is, what other compounds he might have been on, what happened in the longer-term, or if this is a true story. How does this story compare to other research into the effects of injecting weed? Can you inject weed? The research! It seems the question can you inject weed is popular enough, that the topic was officially looked into by researchers, who put out this study in 2004 entitled The Psychotomimetic Effects of Intravenous Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol in Healthy Individuals: Implications for Psychosis. In it, they performed a 3-day, double-blind, randomized, counterbalanced study, on the behavioral, cognitive, and endocrine effects, of injecting 0, 2.5, or 5 mg of delta-9 THC intravenously. However, what the study represents most, is how easily information is outdated, or incorrectly assessed. The study was performed on 22 people who all had some level of cannabis exposure, though none were diagnosed with cannabis abuse disorder. The researchers found that injected delta-9, at any level used, caused the following results: ![]() “(1) produced schizophrenia-like positive and negative symptoms; (2) altered perception; (3) increased anxiety; (4) produced euphoria; (5) disrupted immediate and delayed word recall, sparing recognition recall; (6) impaired performance on tests of distractibility, verbal fluency, and working memory (7) did not impair orientation; (8) increased plasma cortisol.” They concluded that “These data indicate that Δ-9-THC produces a broad range of transient symptoms, behaviors, and cognitive deficits in healthy individuals that resemble some aspects of endogenous psychoses. These data warrant further study of whether brain cannabinoid receptor function contributes to the pathophysiology of psychotic disorders.” What they didn’t account for – despite the title of the study – was the method of delivery. We already know injections provide for very high bioavailability. We also know that delta-9, in high amounts, can temporarily cause the equivalent of a psychedelic ‘bad trip’. In these instances, a user, seemingly responding to over-stimulation, looks to experience an anxiety attack. This is often referred to as some kind of psychosis. Like psychedelics, cannabis increases the amount of serotonin in the system; that cannabis and psychedelics produce similar bad trips in too-high doses, actually makes a lot of sense. Both compounds are constantly looked at for their connection to psychotic issues, but it seems in both cases, this comes up as a form of overdose, not standard effect. And in neither case has this effect carried on permanently. The researchers took all this to be the general effects of delta-9, NOT the general effects of injected delta-9. They open the discussion with “The principal finding of the study is that Δ-9-THC produced…” This is very strange, as it calls into question all results, as the results don’t take into account the delivery method, or the increased bioavailability. Subsequent research into cannabis and intravenous use makes clear how important dosing is with IV usage. In this report from 2012, called Cannabis in the Arm: What Can we Learn from Intravenous Cannabinoid Studies?, researchers reference a Yale study which found “that I.V. administered Δ-9-THC can elicit transient schizophrenia-like positive psychotic symptoms and schizophrenia-like cognitive impairments in a proportion of healthy volunteers.” They then go on to say, “The more recent I.V. delta-9-THC studies have used doses of 1.25mg, 2.5mg, and 5mg. These doses have been found to be psychotomimetic, anxiogenic, dysphoric and cognitively impairing.” And then that “It may therefore be possible that doses which are considered by participants to be the strongest they have experienced reflect an over-intoxication, which in turn results in such symptoms.” So basically, injecting by itself doesn’t have to lead to such symptoms, but getting the dose wrong, can. This might help explain why its frowned on for regular people to inject cannabis, as it’s a wildly different thing to dose for injections, and very easy for a person to make themselves sick. As of yet, I haven’t seen appropriate amounts listed anywhere for dosing in this way, indicating it might not be known, even now. ![]() So…can a regular person inject weed? The answer to the question of can you inject weed, is actually yes, you can. And its regularly done for study purposes. However, even now there seems to be confusion over how to dose for intravenous use, as well as no good way for a standard person to turn their flowery plant into an injectable preparation. In this article from 2018, a recipe for an IV injection included: “10 mg THC, 10 mg CBD, 150.0 mg polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), 10.0 mg sodium ascorbate, 500 μL absolute ethanol, and 0.9% sodium chloride,” at pH of 7.4, which all together totaled 10 mL. “The IV solutions were freshly prepared and filtrated under sterile conditions after sonication for 30 s.” Specific processing techniques apart from this, were not made clear. It seems the biggest reasons cannabis is not regularly injected by the masses, are 1) the process needed to make the injection is extensive itself, and not realistic for the majority of users, and 2) the ability to dose, without overdoing, is not well understood. For anyone interested, it’s best to stick with standard delivery options when it comes to weed. And if in the future things change, take advantage of the new information, at that time. ConclusionIt’s always good to know what makes sense to do, and what doesn’t. We’ve got tons of answers to other mind-boggling questions as well, like can you smoke magic mushrooms? Snort kief? The post Can You Inject Weed? appeared first on Cannadelics. Via https://cannadelics.com/2022/09/17/can-you-inject-weed/ Yup, this is going to be one of those super intellectual articles. Right on par with whether you can smoke a mushroom, which we got to the bottom of not that long ago. It’s a valid question, of course, and I think it’s necessary for readers to know. So today we attack the very-important question of, can you snort kief? Ah, the age old question of can you snort kief… here’s what you need to know. We’re a cannabis and psychedelics news publication which reports on big stories in these exciting and growing fields. We also offer the Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter for readers to keep updated, as well as access a bunch of awesome deals on all kinds of swag from vapes and other smoking paraphernalia, to edibles and cannabinoid compounds like the uber-popular Delta 8 & HHC. Head over to our ‘best of’ lists for more info, and pick yourself up the products you feel most comfortable using. What is kief?If you’re smoking some low grade, twiggy, full of seeds ditch weed, you’re probably not concerning yourself with kief. But for those smoking the good stuff, the kief is the cherry on top of the cake. Some people collect it by using grinders with an entrapment on the bottom to catch the powder, or stash containers with the same collection repository. Some people like to sprinkle the kief on cannabis or tobacco, or to save it up and compress it into hash. If necessary, kief is usable in place of weed, if you run out of that first. So, what is the stuff? Kief is the powdered trichomes that come off of the flowers of the plant, often called pollen, or resin glands. The trichomes are the chemical building structures that house the cannabinoids like THC, and terpenes like linalool; so if you have a bunch of high-quality cannabis kief, you’ve essentially got a bunch of high quality cannabinoids and terpenes too. The kief, therefore, is a concentrated form of the cannabinoids responsible for the medical and mind-altering effects of the cannabis, as well as the terpenes which are responsible for the taste, color, and smell of the plant. ![]() Kief is the starting point of hash. Hash is made of the compressed resin glands of the plant, AKA, trichomes, or kief. Just like kief is a concentrate because its comprised solely of trichomes, hash is a concentrated version of these trichomes, as well. Hash is made pretty simply by squeezing the kief together until it becomes a solid. This doesn’t require more than rolling kief in the hand, or smashing it in a plastic bag. For some people, the entire point of saving up the kief, is to turn it into hash. If you’re smoking the low-grade, twiggy, full of seeds ditch weed, there won’t be kief, or not as much. The plant will still have cannabinoids, but far fewer, which is why such weed isn’t known for producing a good high. The more kief there is, the stickier the plant feels, the brighter the color, the more pungent the smell and taste, and the greater the effects. Have you ever had weed so strong that you could smell it even after wrapping it in two plastic bags and sticking it in a backpack? That’s the kief! Kief is powdery by nature, which is why there’s confusion over how its possibly used. After all, we snort other powdery substances, like cocaine and ketamine, right? Is it that far off to ask, can you snort that kief, as well? Realistically, kief functions similarly to cannabis flowers. It can be smoked, eaten in edibles, vaped, used in a tincture, or applied to skin creams and salves. Generally, we don’t consider snorting weed, but kief is such a concentrated part, and so powdery by nature, that the question does come up. Unfortunately, the question ‘can you snort kief’, might not come with the answer you desire. Can you snort kief? We’re a world of people who like to self-experiment. Maybe this is a sign of widespread boredom, or simply a constant desire to try to push the boundaries of what makes us feel good. The reason I’m writing this article today, is because the question ‘can you snort kief’ is a relatively prevalent one, and an easy-enough experiment, that many have tried. Anyone who has, likely came to the same result. There are two things to remember about cannabinoids and your nose. The first is that the mucous membranes of your nose won’t take up cannabinoids in their natural form, since you are water-based, and they are oil-soluble. When a person uses a THC nasal spray, they’re using a form of cannabis which has been emulsified to make uptake through the nasal passage possible. This process turns something oil-soluble, into something water-soluble. This doesn’t happen naturally, though. If it did, it might be commonplace to see people with the plant shoved up a nostril, and let’s be honest, no one does that. ![]() The other thing to remember? Even if you could shove it up there, it would have to be decarboxylated first in order to access any psychotropic effects. It’s still weed after all, and if the THCA isn’t transformed into THC, there’s no high to access in the first place. For anyone thinking they want to go decarb their kief to try snorting it that way…just remember the first point, that it won’t matter since marijuana isn’t water-soluble. Sorry, guys! Plus, if you want a couple more reasons not to attempt this experiment, here are a couple more things to consider. Kief is coming off a plant, it’s going to be mixed with dirt, and other unwanted particles that might not be desired by the inside of your nose. The reason people use nostrils for medication uptake is because there are a lot of blood vessels, but this means its also easy to get bad microbes up there. Snorting something dirty and unrefined is a great way of getting an infection. The other aspect of this? It probably won’t feel good. That’s a sensitive area that doesn’t want such particles coming into it. Snorting kief will result in no high, but discomfort in your nostril. Something like cocaine numbs the inside of your nose to make it a painless experience, but kief can’t do this; if you choose to experiment in this way, expect to feel the burn. If you REALLY want to snort weed, there might be a way…Alright, so if you cue up that kief line, and snort your way through it, you’re probably going to irritate your sinuses, and not much more. What if you’re not snorting kief, though, but an isolate instead? There are some interesting stories about people getting pretty messed up from blowing through lines of isolate. Well, according to Marijuana Mommy Founder, and RN, Jessie Gill, nostrils don’t provide enough bioavailability for isolates since cannabinoids are fat-soluble, not water-soluble. Since mucous membranes are comprised mostly of water, this doesn’t get around the same uptake issue previously mentioned. Despite this, Gill notes that “it’s easy to over-consume.” And specifically about CBD, “Consuming high doses of CBD via any method can lead to overstimulation, which some people may interpret as a ‘buzz.’” While there still isn’t much backing up this method of delivery, there are a few personal stories out there. In all cases, however, what other drugs the user might have taken, wasn’t accounted for. It also can’t be ruled out that those who claim a high from this experience, were really just experiencing the placebo effect. ![]() Searches in online forums turn up mixed results, but way more on the side of no effect. Once again, when looking through reddit or Quora, it’s impossible to know the specific situations, confounding factors (like other drugs), whether there was a placebo effect, or if the person just wants to spin stories. The general consensus meets the science, in that though a person can snort kief, they’re just not going to get high. ConclusionSo, there you have it. In answer to the question, can you smoke kief, the answer is a resounding ‘well, it won’t kill you, but it won’t do anything for you either.’ If you want to make good use of that kief, sprinkle it on a bowl, smash it into hash, or use it for your edibles. But if your goal is to snort it, all you’re doing is wasting some super fine bud concentrate. Curious about what you can smoke in life?
