The technology of smoking has improved greatly over the last couple of decades. First it was vaping, and the ability to no longer burn the weed. Now it’s the new laser bong, and a technology that takes the butane out of smoking. The laser bong is the newest in weed-smoking technology, and it’s a pretty cool looking piece of equipment. If you’re a person who needs the next thing now, you definitely need this bong! We report on tons of stories in the cannabis and psychedelic industries, which you can play along with by subscribing to the THC Weekly Newsletter. This also gets you prime access to promotions on all kinds of items like vapes, edibles, and paraphernalia, along with premium deals on cannabinoid compounds like HHC-O, Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP, and HHC. As always, we do remind customers not to purchase any product they are uncomfortable with using. What’s a regular bong?A bong, or waterpipe, is a smoking device that uses water to filter the smoke. These devices come in different sizes, and shapes, and though they sometimes look very different, the functional design in the same. A bong is made of a water chamber, which is connected to a mouthpiece in one place, and a bowl in another, and sometimes a carb hole as well, although this is not necessary if the bowl is removable and able to work as a carb. The point of this function is to let in air to clear the accumulated smoke in the water chamber. The chamber needs to be air and watertight when the user puts their mouth to the mouthpiece. The weed is put in the bowl and lit on fire. When the weed is lit, the user inhales through the mouthpiece, pulling in air through the bowl, through the water chamber, and into the user’s mouth. If there’s a carb hole, this must be covered during inhale, or it won’t work. Once the user has pulled as much air as they wish, they can let go of the carb, or remove the bowl, in order to clear out the chamber of built-up smoke. ![]() Bongs are used for smoking, but the same structure is also used to vaporize, via dabbing. Dabs are used as a way to vaporize concentrates, and use the same method of heating the concentrate, and then sucking the vapor through the water. The water works as a filter, trapping the heavier particles in the smoke/vapor, which makes for a smoother hit. The water also cools the smoke down, making it less harsh on the throat. Some bong use another piece called a percolator, which is a twisty glass structure, also meant to cool the air down further. It’s common as well to put ice cubes in the neck of a bong, or directly in the water chamber, for cooling purposes. Because of the water filtration, bongs might be slightly less dangerous than waterless pipes or joints, but there are things to consider. The weed is still being lit on fire and breathed in, which like it or not, is smoke inhalation, the basis for smoking issues. Plus, the weed is lit with a lighter, which also means the user is breathing in butane fumes as well. This matters in that sometimes a flame is held for many seconds when smoking a bong, in order to burn the herbs adequately. What is a laser bong?Let’s be honest, just the term ‘laser bong’ sounds all futuristic and cool, and the best part is… it’s real. Smoking technology has certainly reached a pinnacle at this point in history, as its now possible to light your weed with lasers. How effective is this new method? And what’s the difference in terms of what you inhale? The company Hitoki is the first to make this bong a reality, called the Hitoki Trident. The Trident is a cylindrical bong of mostly black airplane grade aluminum, with an air hose about 1/4-1/3 of the way up from the bottom. Above the air hose is a laser chamber that shines blue when in use, and below it is the water chamber that the smoke gets pulled through. The laser it emits is a 445 nm class 4 blue laser, hence the blue of the chamber. The water hose is either an actual hose – like what’s used for a hookah, but a bit thicker, or a more stable plastic hose-like mouthpiece, more akin to a standard bong. The benefit of the laser is that it can heat to a very precise temperature, and doesn’t have to go as high as a lighter. It’s used to burn either dry herb or concentrates, and is very efficient, allowing for approximately 280 uses off of each charge of its battery. Something that can be done easily with its included USB charger. In all other ways beside the laser as a heat source, the Trident functions like any other bong. In order to use it, the bong comes apart for loading the weed. It has two distinct pieces that lock back together with an FDA compliant interlock system. It’s about as simple as loading it, locking it, and lighting it, which is done with the push of a button. The laser has three power settings, with the lowest temperature for buds, the mid for dense buds, and the highest for concentrates. It also comes equipped with a carb button for cleaning out the smoke chamber. ![]() If you’re thinking this is a lot for a bong, you’re right! These bongs are so high scale, they even come in gold or rose gold, for those who want the extra fancy version. Even the regular version will set you back a bit, starting $499,99. Hitoki marks the first company to employ this laser technology for bongs, but it likely opened a can of worms that tons of companies will get in on. Hitoki boasts the cleanest smoking experience using the Trident, and that the smoke is the most flavorful possible. Benefits of a laser bongIt’s not exactly a cheap piece of equipment, and therefore won’t be available to everyone. It can be expected that upcoming competitor models will retain the same high price, although if its out long enough, there’s surely a budget model somewhere in the future. For now, however, if you want this new smoking gadget, you’ll have to pay out. So, if the cost is so high, what are the benefits of using a laser bong? For one thing, there’s no lighter, and no other material being burned in order to light the herb. Back a few years ago I had a boyfriend who bought a hemp wick (think hemp twine), which was also meant to clean out the lighting aspect. Instead of lighting the bong with a lighter, the lighter lit the wick, which was then used to light the weed. Honestly, it worked okay, but I found it difficult to use. The laser bong does remove the inhalation of any extra materials, although there isn’t much information on whether it itself creates byproducts which might not be desirable to inhale. The laser is supposedly more efficient than using a lighter, burning the herb evenly, and requiring less weed to do the same job. Going through weed quickly is often an issue, particularly when a device does not heat evenly, or simply requires a large amount for a not comparable hit. Anything that can elongate the amount of time weed lasts, certainly provides a positive benefit. How much it does in this department, has not been made clear. It’s super cool. I don’t know how much this counts as a benefit, but in our world of constantly one-upping each other, and showing off our newest expenditures to those who want what we have, this bong certainly fits in line. Sure, it’s the mansion that’s probably too big, or the eighth car we could do without, but who doesn’t want a huge mansion, or to be able to afford eight cars? If the use of a laser does indeed make it a safer experience, then that is a massive benefit. Either way, in terms of ‘cool’ and ‘status’, this smoking device is the Rolls Royce of bongs. It’s advertised that this laser bong uses lower temperatures to heat, and that this affects the overall feel. While this would have no effect on the negatives of combustion, it might make a difference in how a user feels the smoke in their body. Lower temperatures can mean a more comfortable time, and less coughing, as the heat can bother the throat and lungs. This is why bongs are often kitted out with extra measures to cool down the smoke. ![]() There is one massive thing to remember. If you’re looking at a laser bong as a healthier smoking option, this isn’t quite true. The biggest issue with smoking – and it doesn’t matter what’s smoked – is that something is being lit on fire and inhaled, and this is not changed through this particular design. It eliminates the added on butane fumes, that’s for sure, and therefore might net a smoke that tastes better and is slightly cleaner, but it won’t take out the overall dangers of smoking, not even by a little. Quite honestly, in terms of actual benefits, there are some, but they’re not extensive. It does seem to promote a sleek, upscale, cleaner smoking experience, and the removal of butane is certainly helpful, along with the ability to make weed go further. Luckily, cool and futuristic are also benefits in our modern world, so if you’re looking for the newest breakthrough in smoking technology, and the most hip way to do it, this laser bong is definitely for you. ConclusionIt should be interesting to watch other comparable models by other companies come out. With enough competition the design will surely be improved on, and with enough time, we can learn the true benefits (and detractions) of using laser bongs. For now, Hitoki certainly hit the nail on the head of cool, and I fully admit, I want to try this bong! Review upcoming. Hey guys, thanks for stopping by! Essential oils are all the rage, and CBD oil is another natural product that’s also receiving acclaim for its many benefits. It’s reasonable to entertain the idea of combining CBD oil with other plant extracts in a diffuser, but in practice, is a CBD oil diffuser a pipe dream or a legitimate holistic health tool? In the end, we think you’ll find it’s best to enjoy aromatherapy and cannabinoids separately. Learn everything you need to know about evaporative diffusers and industrial hemp to discover if CBD oil diffusers are worth your time. What Is Oil Diffusion?Oil diffusion is the practice of dispersing aromatic oils into the air. In most cases, water infused with aromatic oils is vaporized using heat or sound, producing a mist that is then directed through a spout. Aromatherapeutic oil diffusion is believed to have various benefits, and scientific research has found that aromatherapy may reduce stress. How Does Oil Diffusion Work?Oil diffusers work by converting liquid essential oils into a mist or gas that is carried in the air. The most common type of essential oil diffuser on the market, the ultrasonic diffuser, uses electricity to stimulate a pair of ultrasonic plates, which excite oil-infused water molecules until they become mist. The mist then passes out of the diffuser and disperses throughout the environment. What Are the Therapeutic Benefits of Diffused Essential Oils? Many essential oils are believed to have therapeutic properties, and some of these natural substances may offer enhanced benefits when allowed to disperse as a fine mist throughout your room. Whether it’s bergamot, mint, or blood orange, various botanical extracts are believed to have aromatherapeutic properties, with prominent examples including:
What Are the Best Essential Oils for Restful Sleep?Whether you’ve been relying on cannabidiol isolate sleep gummies or chasing after a good night’s sleep any other way, it’s reasonable to wonder which essential oils people most commonly use to get to sleep at night. Some of the most acclaimed options include:
What Types of Oil Diffusers Are There? There are four types of essential oil diffusers available on the market, but ultrasonic diffusers and nebulizers are the most popular.
Can I Diffuse CBD Oil?Ultimately, diffusing CBD oil will just waste time and cannabinoids. Here’s why. Aromatic oils, like cedarwood oil, still provide their primary effect — smelling good — even when they’re only present in the air in tiny concentrations. Bioactive substances like CBD, however, need to be ingested in higher concentrations to be effective. Combined with an essential oil blend or poured into a diffuser on its own, CBD will be wasted as tiny concentrations of this cannabinoid spread into every corner of your home. Whether you’re using CBD isolate for sleep or full-spectrum CBD for pain, aromatherapy isn’t the way to get it done. Can You Put CBD Oil in a Diffuser? Is there such a thing as CBD diffuser oil? No, diffusing is not a viable way to use cannabis of any type, regardless of whether it’s third-party tested or grown in a GMP-compliant facility. Diffusing essential oils may have health benefits, but putting CBD oil in a diffuser would almost always be useless or dangerous. Can You Use Nebulizing Diffusers to Vape CBD?Yes, it’s technically possible to use a nebulizer to vape cannabinoid extracts. However, the type of CBD oil commonly sold online is not safe to vape. CBD does not have psychoactive effects even if you vape it, but the carrier oils present in oil-based tinctures can cause lipoid pneumonia, a potentially fatal lung condition. Nebulizing forces high-enough concentrations of CBD oil into your lungs to be potentially dangerous. It is vital to only vape cannabis products specifically labeled as being designed for vaping, and it may simply be best to avoid vaping cannabinoids. Are There Benefits to Diffusing CBD Oil?If you were able to set up a hemp oil diffuser, would this even be a good way to experience the benefits of CBD? Unfortunately, diffusing CBD or any other type of cannabis extract appears to be completely devoid of significant benefits. While the energizing scents of essential oils might be able to help with mood, throwing CBD into the mix would be far from a harmonious combination. Is There Any Way to Make a CBD Oil Diffuser Work?If you can’t buy CBD oil for a diffuser, is there a way you could make your own? There are certainly ways to inhale both THC-free and intoxicating forms of cannabis extract, but diffusing just isn’t one of them. Cannabinoids simply aren’t substances that should be diffused. They work best when they are applied in concentrated forms. Think about how CBD oil and lavender essential oil each rose to national prominence; for instance — cannabinoids have always been promoted in concentrated products, while essential oils are primarily used for the aromatic benefits they offer when dispersed through an indoor space. As long as you avoid obvious mistakes, you could probably come up with a dozen different CBD oil diffusers that would get cannabinoids into the air to mingle with ambient essential oils. There’s no reason to do so, however, and following through with such a plan could endanger your health. Can You Diffuse Cannabis for the Smell? If you’re doing it for the aroma and don’t care about any other potential therapeutic benefits, there’s no reason you shouldn’t diffuse cannabis extract just for the smell. High-quality cannabinoid extracts contain significant concentrations of terpenes, the same substances that make an essential oil blend smell great. It’s important always to avoid vaporizing any form of CBD product that contains a carrier oil or any other non-hemp ingredients. You may want to purchase terpenes on their own to achieve the desired effect at a lower price and with less risk involved. The Bottom Line: Is CBD Essential Oil Dangerous? Can you diffuse CBD oil, or could doing so endanger your health? If you’re searching for the potential benefits that sweet citrus scents, peppermint, or eucalyptus might provide, give an ultrasonic or fan diffuser a shot. Regardless of its potential usefulness for chronic pain or other conditions, allowing CBD to disperse throughout your home as a vapor is not the way to go. You can heat pure cannabinoid extracts into an inhalable vapor, but that’s very different from the type of steam produced by aromatherapy gadgets. Plus, there’s considerable concern that vaping of all types could be hazardous to public health without offering benefits that other ingestion methods don’t. If you’re looking for a way to stay invigorated or fall asleep, there are many different natural scent molecules you can release into your environment to help. When it’s time to relax with the benefits of CBD, however, stick to conventional approaches like tinctures, gummies, or capsules. The post Can I Diffuse CBD Oil? Nonetheless, not only is it beautiful and full of culture, it also has a secret cannabis shop right in the capital city of Ljubljana. During my many travels there I have been blown away by the surprises that are found if only you look. Whilst THC is illegal, this secret cannabis bar happily sells you whatever you want and, to make things better, it’s homegrown. Of course to not shine too much of an unhelpful light on the place I will leave it unnamed, but I still want to give it all the praise it deserves and to highlight that perhaps these places should exist all over the world. If you’re not from there, then it’s very easy to forget about some of these many beautiful countries. There were around 710 million tourist visits to Europe in 2018, but a lot of these favour specific places. Many publications will focus on only the major nations, and less on the smaller ones. This is largely due to the wealthy history of the place, and the past empirical powers. For instance, there’s a reason why France and Paris are visited far more than Latvia. It wouldn’t be fair to suggest that this is because of beauty when – in reality – most of the smaller, lesser known nations have yet to be destroyed by tourism. It’s this obsession with certain countries in Europe that is unfortunate because, as some of you will know, sometimes the best places are the quieter ones. World Of Wanderlust writes: “As one of the most sought after holiday destinations the world over, Europe has so much to offer travellers. From drinking a pint of beer at the infamous Oktoberfest in Munich, to biting into a flaky croissant in Saint Germain as the daily life of Paris passes you by, this is Europe in all of its glory! And if you’re planning a visit to the continent, these are the most visited countries in Europe to help you plan your own adventure.” This is a great example of how publications feed off archetypal views on Europe, without much interest in thinking outside of the box. There is no doubt that the top 10 most visited countries in Europe are incredible places, but how about letting the other ones have a look in? Such as Slovenia. The Beach, a film starring Leonardo Di Caprio, is all about a guy searching for a secret beach. The moment everyone starts finding out about it, it loses its novelty as a special place. This is a great metaphor. Perhaps Slovenia is actually benefiting from remaining secretive. Although there’s no doubt that more people are finding out about this beautiful country. Let’s see how it differs in tourist levels from the top 10 most-visited countries in Europe:
In recent years, Slovenia’s tourist levels have increased magnificently. In fact, there was a 31% increase in 2021. This is much because of how beautiful it is. SloveniaSlovenia is a small country that is squished between Austria, Hungary and Croatia. It is land bound, but isn’t a far drive from the sea and has some quite remarkable lakes, such as Lake Bled and Bohinj. The nation covers around 20,000 square km and has a modest population of 2 million. It was once part of the Ottoman Empire and Yugoslavia, which consisted of Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia. However, it became an independent nation in 1991. LjubljanaThe capital city of Slovenia is often referred to as a hidden gem, and for how much longer it’s hidden I don’t know. However, it’s becoming a far more common interrail stop for those 18 year olds who decide to tour Europe by train. The city is small and stunning. You can walk around the whole thing in what feels like half an hour. It feels as if the cafe culture of Paris and the canals of Venice made love, and was then sprinkled with a bit of Russian greenery. It almost feels like a utopian city. And the cleanliness is astounding. Adventure Filled Life writes: “This lovely green capital, populated by 300.000 people will take care of that European feeling you have been craving for. Walk-able, charming, and environmentally friendly – you will fall in love with the city after your first stroll along the river. Along the way, you can stop for a coffee at one of the many riverside cafes in Ljubljana.” My Time in LjubljanaMy father’s partner is from this city, so I often go there. As I was strolling along the many cobbled streets, during my travels, I found myself at one of the many CBD shops. There are multiple of these smart shops in Ljubljana and they aren’t hard to find. What I found personally interesting about them, however, is that they sold CBD cannabis buds. This might sound expected, but for someone who comes from the UK where CBD flowers are illegal, it was a bit of a surprise. In the UK, CBD is illegal but CBD cannabis buds are not. This is just one of many idiotic cannabis laws from my home nation. In Slovenia, however, they allow for any CBD product to be sold at these specific shops. That’s not to say that THC cannabis is legal, it’s not. ![]() “Production, import, use, possession and sale of cannabis for recreational use are prohibited by law. While cannabis remains illegal in Slovenia, the medical cannabis community has been growing. The Ministry of Health produced draft legislation that would allow a regulated medical cannabis programme” In recent years, the use of personal amounts of cannabis is now no longer illegal in Slovenia. Instead, it is decriminalised and can be considered a misdemeanour. You can pay a small fine of around 50 euros if you’re found to be using cannabis. Because of this, I didn’t really have much hope of finding much cannabis in Slovenia. My assumption was that the CBD market was growing, and that was about it. However, as I began speaking to the CBD shopkeeper and asked him some questions about THC, he quickly pointed down the road. His English was great – as many Slovenians’ are – and he continued to tell me that there was a bar down the road that sold cannabis behind the counter. He didn’t even seem nervous to tell me, it felt like it was common knowledge. Of course, without much of a pause, I made my way to the bar and stepped inside. It was a very cool and hipster looking place and, being from East London, I felt right at home. The Secret Slovenian writes about it: “It is not uncommon for a smell of cannabis… to come out of this lively terrace. The small street (Rimska cesta) in which the… bar is located is nice. The bars near the river are nicer than this bar in Ljubljana but if you want to see what cool Slovenians and some hipsters are like, this is the place to go” I ordered a beer and asked if they sold any *insert weird and awkward tap on the nose here*. The barman looked back at me and smiled. He asked how much I wanted and I said 20 euros worth and within about 5 minutes I had a bag of cannabis in my pocket and a freshly poured beer. It didn’t feel anywhere near as shady as I thought it would. By the way, the weed was homegrown and I was a big fan. Not too strong, but a good body high. Now I’ll know exactly where to go next time I’m in Slovenia’s capital. ConclusionThe idea of a secret cannabis bar in Slovenia is exactly as cool as it sounds. However, it was far less discreet and shady as I perhaps would have assumed. Instead, it’s full of friendly staff and a chill atmosphere – as it should be. Why should cannabis have to be sold in any other way? If you’re interested in visiting this place then don’t hesitate to contact us for the name of it and directions. Healthcare professionals have dismissed the phenomenon as a “rare psychiatric condition”, but theories (and even some recent studies) exist claiming that there is way more to these shared hallucinations than meets the eye. Head over to our “Best-of” lists to get these deals, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Folie à deuxFolie à deux is a French term coined in 1877 that means the “madness of two”. It refers to a situation in which two (or more, the phrase is used loosely) individuals experience shared delusions or hallucinations. Before we get into the more interesting theories and concepts surrounding Folie à deux, it’s important to make note of the distinctions between delusions and hallucinations. Delusions are fixed, false beliefs and convictions that conflict with reality, despite evidence to the contrary. Many delusions also involve a certain level of fear and paranoia, although that is not always the case. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that feel vivid and real but are created by the mind. They can affect all five senses, meaning you can hear, feel, see, taste, and smell things that may not be there. The reason this is important, is because delusions are easier to share. If you spend enough time with someone and have in-depth conversations with them, it’s possible you will be influenced by their thoughts and opinions, eventually. The idea of sharing hallucinations is a bit more fascinating. Sure, a hallucination can stem from shared thoughts or delusions, but what if none exist? Or what about when the hallucinations people share are completely random and not related to something they have discussed previously? Or what about when two strangers share hallucinations, as it sometimes the case at psychedelic therapy retreats? So far, most of the evidence is anecdotal, but this does happen a lot in people who use psychedelics or even substance-free, mind-altering experiences, like sensory deprivation and Lucia light therapy. Although Folie à deux has been documented for almost 145 years, it’s rarely discussed, poorly understood, and not recognized by the DSM-5 or any other diagnostic manual, despite therapists claiming that it’s a “mental disorder”. Can we transmit thoughts to each other? In psychonaut communities, there are numerous accounts of this happening, and it brings to mind some interesting studies about our ability to transmit thoughts to one another. Most recently, an international group of researchers has successfully shown that brain-to-brain, or mind-to-mind communication is actually possible. As a matter of fact, they determined that people could communicate with others that were thousands of miles away, via the internet, without speaking or typing. Simply by thinking. The team was comprised of various professionals including neuroscientists and robotics engineers from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), Harvard Medical School (HMC), Starlab Barcelona, and French company Axilum Robotics. Their results were published in the journal PLOS ONE, where they laid out what they described as the “mind-to-mind equivalent of instant messaging.” In their experiment, the team used a handful of “neurotechnologies” to send messages over the internet between people who were over 5,000 miles apart. ![]() The person transmitting the messages was based in India, and the three people receiving the transmitted communication were in France. The team conducted their trial using two brain technologies – electroencephalography (EEG) and robot-assisted and image-guided transcranial magnetic stimulation. The EEG was able to pick up thoughts from the sender, such as “hello” and “goodbye”, which were then sent to the brain-computer interface as binary code through an email from India. Then in France, a computer-brain interface translated the thoughts and utilized non-invasive brain stimulations (with the help of robotized TMS) that passed the signals through the scalps of the receivers. They saw the brain stimulations as “phosphenes” which are flashes of light in their peripheral vision that appeared in numerical sequences to be decoded. After a successful trial, the team conducted similar experiments between Spain and France. They concluded with an 84 percent success rate – broken down to a 5 percent error rate on the sending side and 11 percent error rate on the receiving side. The study authors and participants were impressed with the results, knowing that humans can send messages to each other simply through the power of thought, with a hint of neurotechnology. According to Professor Pascual-Leone from Harvard Medical School’s Department of Neurology, “This in itself is a remarkable step in human communication, but being able to do so across a distance of thousands of miles is a critically important proof-of-principle for the development of brain-to-brain communications.” Can we do it without the computers?Telepathy is the concept of vicarious transmission of thoughts and information directly from the mind of one person to another (or to many others). The term was first used in 1882 by scholar Frederic W. H. Although some sporadic telepathy studies have been conducted over the decades, these experiments have been harshly criticized for lacking proper controls and the difficulty of possible repetition. Most in the scientific community consider telepathy to be pseudoscience. But just because something is considered pseudoscience now, that doesn’t mean it won’t change in the future if more evidence surfaces to support the theory. For a long time, the continental drift theory was considered silly “junk science”, but is now the basis for modern geology. In a meta-analyses of Ganzfield studies as well as “card-guessing tasks”, published in 2008 in the International Journal of Yoga, researchers set to review existing information and study an individual with this ability to determine the neural basis of telepathy. As per their notes: “Using functional MRI, we examined a famous ‘mentalist’ while he was performing a telepathic task in a 1.5 T scanner. A matched control subject without this special ability was also examined under similar conditions. The mentalist demonstrated significant activation of the right parahippocampal gyrus after successful performance of a telepathic task. The comparison subject, who did not show any telepathic ability, demonstrated significant activation of the left inferior frontal gyrus. The findings of this study are suggestive of a limbic basis for telepathy and warrant further systematic research.” Meaning that, different brain activity was noted between the telepathic and non-telepathic individuals, but being a small and very limited analysis, more studies will be needed to determine if this is something that happens consistently in telepathic people, or if it was a one-off situation or fluke. Psychedelic telepathyAgain, this is a relatively untouched field of study, and most of what we have to go on is anecdotal evidence. However, personal accounts do count for something, and if you do a bit of online digging, you will find numerous reports of what psychonauts describe as “psychedelic telepathy”. In a 2020 study published in the Journal of Scientific Exploration, 40 anonymous psychedelics users shared their experiences with interviewers. In total, 16 of them (40 percent) reported some type of telepathic experience while on psychedelics. ![]() Three forms of telepathic communication were reported by the interviewees. The first was a type of information exchange that allowed people to transfer both words and images to each other. The second was a state often referred to as “telempathy” which enabled users to exchange feelings and emotions. And the third was a sort of “self-dissolution and telepathic unity” where thoughts between two or more people could not be differentiated. The thought transference was so intense in some of the users, that they complained of a “lack of privacy” during their trip. I have experienced this myself. A game that I like to play with some of my friends when we’re on psychedelics is rooted in this very concept. It’s basic, but certainly helps to show that there is some level of connectivity occurring between people when they take psychedelic drugs. The game: I tell my friends to think of a color, to think of things associated with said color, and to really attempt to feel the color. Then I tell them to imagine sending the thought of that color to me, and I guess what it is. We do this back and forth, sending colors and sometimes numbers into each other’s minds, and the success rate is quite high… we “guess” right almost every time. Aside from some sort of psychedelic telepathy, it’s hard to explain the transference of such completely random thoughts. Some believe it has to do with electroreception and electrogenesis, or the ability to sense the electrical activity of nearby nervous systems. Many animals have it and use it regularly, especially aquatic and amphibious species since electricity travels through water much more efficiently than through air. Some believe humans possess this ability as well, although this theory has not yet been proven. Final thoughtsDespite not being a frequently discussed topic in mainstream scientific communities, it’s a theory that’s gaining traction, especially if you’re involved in psychedelics. We know that the human body produces electrical impulses that allow our brains to communicate with other parts of the body. And we know that psychedelics help open up different neural pathways in the brain which allow for better communication between cells, as well as better connectivity to the world around you. So is it that far-fetched to believe that psychedelics can help us communicate better with other humans, possibly through non-verbal and telepathic means? I don’t think so, and the hundreds of fellow psychonauts who have shared thoughts and hallucinations during a trip don’t think so either. Welcome to the site! Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/06/19/the-madness-of-many-folie-a-deux-and-shared-hallucinations/ The thoughts that arise during a cannabis high can be some of the most original, funny and honest ones to ever pop into your brain. Why is the sky blue? How genuinely far is a light year away? Why does Adam Sandler always wear basketball shorts and an oversized t-shirt? For centuries, cannabis has been utilized for its mind-opening and philosophical effects. Today, we’re going to be delving into yet another mind-boggling question that many stoners might think: why do you get cottonmouth from smoking cannabis? Cottonmouth is a strange phenomenon, but one that arises nonetheless. Let’s delve in and try to fully understand what this phenomena is, and why it occurs to those who smoke cannabis. As always, don’t block your high thoughts out, use them. To stay current on everything important happening in the cannabis and psychedelics industries, subscribe to The Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter. Head over to our “Best-of” lists to get these deals, and remember to enjoy responsibly! The Art of QuestionsSince the dawn of civilization, human beings have asked questions about the world around them and their experiences in that world. It’s part of our DNA. It’s these thoughts and queries that have allowed us to learn, evolve and grow more intelligent. When a human first ever looked up to the sky and asked: what are those shiny things? When a human first ever looked at a tool and asked: what can I do with this? When a human first ever looked at themselves and asked: what am I? These questions have made us who we are. Romy Aran writes: “It is in our human nature to seek answers as answers provide security. As such, we are willing to accept lies as long as they provide the illusion of truth. Asking questions means that one is willing to not find the answer immediately. It takes time to find answers.” However, why is it that as we grow older some of us begin to stop asking questions? As children, we run around pointing at random inanimate objects and ask what they are. Our parents have to constantly wait on us, giving us obvious answers to these questions. Well, to them it’s obvious, but to children it’s all new. So why do we stop asking questions as we get older? Whilst asking questions allows us to learn information, it also has a social impact. Asking someone else a question highlights your interest in them. How are you? How was your day? Where are you from? It uplifts them, makes them feel important. However, on the other hand, asking questions can suggest a lack of knowledge. People want to look smart, and want to look like they know things about the world. If you ask a question, you are openly admitting to not knowing something. That can be quite an honest reveal. But ultimately, the world is all of ours, and we have a right to ask questions about it. High ThoughtsHigh thoughts are very specific because these are the types of questions that pop into your head during a cannabis high. However, these thoughts are similar to child-like thoughts. They are free and without inhibition. Children don’t mind how asking a specific question might make them look, they simply want to know the answer. This is the same with those who are high. Cannabis and, specifically THC, can allow you to see the world in a different way; in a childish way. Maxim writes: “Cannabis enhances neural activity in the frontal cortex of your brain, which is essentially command central. It handles everything from attention and problem solving, to personality and temperament…the THC allows your brain to form new connections and pathways that didn’t exist before, thereby guiding your thought process into enlightened territory.” The issue can be that parents will often tell their children to stop asking silly questions. Or teachers often ask their students to focus on the work and not ask questions that don’t make sense to the topic. However, thinking outside the box is what has allowed human beings to create some of the most important inventions in history. The lightbulb, the internet, the concept of science – all came about from asking ‘silly’ questions. Therefore, high thoughts must be cherished and answered, not avoided and criticized. That is why we’ll be doing exactly that today. And, our high question of choice is…drum roll please…why do you get cottonmouth from smoking? What is Cottonmouth?First off, let’s answer an even simpler question. Cottonmouth is spoken about and discussed a lot in the world of cannabis, but what actually is it? And why do people call it that? Cottonmouth, also known as xerostomia by dental hygienists, is an issue that occurs when the mouth becomes dehydrated. The salivary glands do not produce enough saliva or spit, and thus the mouth becomes very dry. This can also cause the tongue and lips to crack or build up white, frothy spit. Here are a list of other symptoms that can come from having cottonmouth. Smartmouth lists:
So, if cottonmouth is caused by our salivary glands slowing down saliva production, then what is this triggered by? What Causes Cottonmouth?Cottonmouth and the slowing down of saliva production can happen in a variety of ways, not just through smoking cannabis. Spicy or salty foods can dehydrate the mouth, as well as drinking too much alcohol or coffee. Anything that essentially reduces the amount of liquids, and especially water, into the mouth is likely to cause dryness. Salt and spice can dry up liquids, whilst alcohol and coffee remove fluids from your blood, and thus you need extra water to balance those substances out. What about Cannabis?Smoking is of course a very dry act in itself. You’re putting a lit joint in your mouth and inhaling dry smoke. This, like anything hot, will naturally dry out the mouth. However, there’s more to it. Smoking can restrict the blood flow to various parts of your body, including the mouth. The smoke enters the body and slows down the veinal processes. Smartmouth continues: “In addition to lack of blood flow, the nicotine in tobacco products is also known to minimize saliva flow and lead to issues like cottonmouth from smoking” Whilst this might explain why cottonmouth is caused by joints with tobacco in them, it does not quite explain why blunts (with only cannabis in) can still give you the same sensation. Well, the truth is, cottonmouth can be caused by vaping, dabbing or smoking. The reason is that cannabis, itself, can cause this effect. When cannabis is consumed, the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the body take them in and create the high or medical benefit – depending on the cannabinoids within the specific strain. However, these same receptors that take in the cannabinoids, also limit saliva production when this process occurs. Therefore, it’s not only the process of smoking, but cannabis itself that causes cottonmouth. Is It Dangerous?Cottonmouth, if left untreated and undealt with, can lead to tooth decay or gum disease. However, it isn’t necessarily a negative if it’s dealt with. Make sure to drink lots of water, and not just fizzy drinks, when you get high. When it comes to health, nothing can beat water. Healthline writes: “Water helps regulate body temperature, lubricate joints, transport nutrients, remove waste, and circulate blood. That means your body can’t properly perform these functions if you’re dehydrated, which happens when you lose more fluids than you take in.” ![]() Therefore, if you’re wanting to avoid cottonmouth but still wanting to consume cannabis, then ensure to have a big bottle of water with you at all times. Once you get into the habit of it, it won’t seem like such a burden. ConclusionHigh thoughts are gifts to be championed, not to be ignored. We return to our inquisitive, child-like mindsets when we get high, and this is a great opportunity to ask questions that we don’t fully understand. Plus, you have the extra bonus of not feeling socially awkward for asking them. Cottonmouth is a confusing idea, but ultimately it’s caused by dehydration. Cannabis consumption can dehydrate the mouth and blood circulation. Therefore, make sure you’re hydrating regularly to avoid that awkwardly dry mouth that cottonmouth causes. Welcome to the site! The post Celebrate Dad With These Father’s Day Weekend Deals appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/06/16/celebrate-dad-with-these-fathers-day-weekend-sales/ There are a lot of key player countries in the cannabis industry, and the news is always full of stories of different countries changing regulation to allow for greater trade options. Now, as the psychedelics industry starts to pick up with legalizations coming in all over the world, Jamaica shows itself as a top player in the magic mushrooms tourism game. Jamaica is leading the way with its legal magic mushrooms tourism industry, which includes resort stays in some of the most beautiful places on earth. We’re a wholly independent news publication specializing in cannabis and psychedelics stories, which you can follow along with by subscribing to the The Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter. This will net you daily updates, as well as getting you in first place for all upcoming product promotions. Jamaica and magic mushroomsMagic mushrooms encompass a range of fungi that contain the psychedelic compounds psilocybin and psilocin. These mushrooms are known for producing trip experiences in which the user hallucinates, essentially having sensory experiences that are not real. This means hearing, seeing, feeling, tasting, or smelling something that isn’t there. They’re also known for bringing on feelings of euphoria, wellbeing, connection, and spirituality. Magic mushrooms themselves sometimes fit into a legal loophole in that the plants aren’t always illegal, even if the active compounds inside them are. The US is not a country that does this, instead making both the mushrooms and the active compounds illegal. But a country like Brasil is a good example. The actual plants are not mentioned in any law in Brasil, but psilocybin and psilocin are illegal in the country. Jamaica, on the other hand, has no illegalization for magic mushrooms as plants, or the psychedelic compounds they house. In fact, Jamaica has a thriving magic mushrooms industry, that operates right out in the open. ![]() Jamaica simply never illegalized mushrooms when the rest of the world did, maintaining its open market the entire time. Now that legalizations are happening all over the world, Jamaica is already immersed in the industry. Not only was Jamaica responsible for the first psilocybin export in 2021, but it’s also the main country for magic mushroom tourism. If you’re looking for a way to enjoy psychedelics in a beautiful and legal environment, head over to Jamaica and take advantage of one of its many deals for magic mushroom retreats and adventures. First psilocybin exportAs its legal to grow and produce mushrooms in Jamaica, and to export them out, that’s what Jamaica is doing. But mainly for scientific purposes at the moment, because of regulation in other countries. This trend started last year when the company Mydecine completed the first global export of psilocybin from Jamaica to Canada. Mydecine Innovations Group (CSE: MYCO) (OTC: MYCOF) (FSE: 0NFA) is a biopharma company out of Denver, operating out of Canada. The company announced in late 2020 that it completed its first harvest in Jamaica of 44 pounds (20 kg), and that this would be delivered in multiple shipments to Canada. The mushrooms were grown in a cultivation center that focuses on mycology research. The first shipment was completed on March 1, 2021, and went to the company’s Canadian Current Good Manufacturing Practice facility. The facility already obtained a Health Canada Schedule 1 Dealer’s License, allowing it to legally import and export psychedelic compounds for medicinal research and development, cultivation, product production, and sale of compounds commercially. Said Mydecine CEO and Chairman Joshua Bartch, of the import to Canada, “This milestone is significant to our 2021 goals as we are now able to access a quality source of much needed product for both our own research purposes, as well as provide CGMP naturally-derived psilocybin to sell and transfer to other licensed research facilities around the globe.” In the year since that time, at least one other psilocybin export occurred out of Jamaica for magic mushrooms, by the company Havn Life Sciences Inc (CSE: HAVN) (OTC: HAVLF) (FSE: 5NP). This company successfully completed a psilocybin export from Jamaica, where it works with Hypha Wellness and P.A. Benjamin Manufacturing Company, for the cultivation and processing of psilocybin. The psilocybin was imported to California through the company’s supply partner Mycrodose Therapeutics, which already has an import license from the DEA. ![]() Jamaica and magic mushrooms tourismSince Jamaica has a thriving magic mushrooms industry, you can take part as well. Anyone looking for a place to legally trip out, and plan a whole trip around legally tripping out, should consider Jamaica. Where should interested travelers check out to take advantage of Jamaica’s magic mushroom tourism industry? The following are some great programs that can get you on your way. MycoMeditations is a company that puts together psilocybin-assisted retreats which incorporate traditional understandings along with modern research. They are not shamanistic retreats, but instead lean toward a more modern medical psychedelics setting. These retreats provide a similar experience to a clinical environment, but are instead out in the beauty of nature. Interested retreat-goers can choose from Classic retreats for a truly authentic Jamaican experience, Comfort retreats which offer an upscale experience, and Concierge retreats for a complete luxury experience. Prices start around $5500 for single occupancy, but prices vary depending on retreat. Another option is through Atman Retreats. Atman offers an oceanside retreat with private beaches and villa accommodations. Customers are attended to by a team of experienced facilitators, and are led through a 4-day experience for self-discovery, inner transformation, and life breakthroughs. This Montego Bay Lagoon location offers private and shared rooms, and can offer lower priced tickets at $395 for those on a budget. Outside of this, prices vary, but start at a little over $2,200 per person for a four-day stay in a shared room, and $3,495 for private rooms. The site doesn’t have dates listed at the moment, and those interested should fill out the application form for more details. Yet another possibility is Silo Wellness Retreats. These retreats are designed to offer a serene environment for the legal consumption of mushrooms, but with no specific medical purpose. Interested customers can book already put together programs, like the Replenish – Psilocybin-Assisted Jamaica Retreat (starts $3850/pg), or the Renew Your Purpose – Psilocybin-Assisted Jamaica Retreat (starts $3350/pg), both of which are in Trelawny. This company also offers curated experiences specific to individual needs, with its EXPLORE – Curated Retreat Experience (starts $1498/pg), and the EXPAND – Curated Retreat Experience (starts $5995/pg), both of which operate in Montego Bay. ![]() A last option to consider for Jamaica magic mushrooms tourism, is Beckley Retreats. This company offers magic mushroom experiences in both Jamaica and the Netherlands, so if you’re looking to have a more European mushroom experience, you certainly have that option as well. In terms of Jamaica, retreats take place in Montego Bay, and guests have access to a pool, private beaches, vegetarian meals from locally sourced food, and an integration of ancient wisdom and scientific study. These five-day retreats start at $5,000. ConclusionThe beauty of Jamaica is that whether you want a full religious experience, or just to do some recreational tripping, the legality of both magic mushrooms, and the psilocybin within, makes either option possible. Not only can you relax in some of the most beautiful locations that exist, but you can also give your brain and body an experience of a lifetime. Interested retreat-goers should be aware of what they’re getting into, and take part in all pre-retreat activities (if they exist) to ensure a safe and peaceful, mind-expanding experience. More countries are sure to join in on this tourism game in the future, with some, like Mexico, already building mushroom tourism industries, even as mushrooms remain illegal. For now, Jamaica sits on top, as one of the best places to go for a legal psychedelics ceremony. Jamaica is also a top location for medical cannabis tourism, making it one of the best up-and-coming legal drug vacation spots in the world. Thanks for joining us! The post Jamaica At the Top of the Magic Mushrooms Tourism Game appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/06/16/jamaica-at-the-top-of-the-magic-mushrooms-tourism-game/ One of the main ways that cannabis passes from unacceptable to acceptable in the mainstream, is the application of its medical uses, which have time and again proven life-saving for different illnesses. And it’s often the case that sick children are a driving force for policy change. In fact, it’s almost shocking that we still have to argue to get a kid medicine. But such is still the case. A current story in the UK makes clear that sick kids are still being denied medical cannabis, even in this day and age. It’s insane that sick kids are still being denied medical cannabis, despite life-threatening illnesses, and in light of all the research that shows its helpful abilities, and general lack of danger. How is England so far behind? Our publication focuses on independent reporting of the cannabis and psychedelics fields. Follow along by subscribing to the THC Weekly Newsletter, while also getting awesome deals on tons of smoking paraphernalia, along with cannabinoid products like HHC-O, Delta 8, Delta 9 THC, Delta-10 THC, THCO, THCV, THCP, and HHC. As always, we do not promote anyone buy a product they’re uncomfortable with using. The storyThere are plenty of cases of sick kids being denied medical cannabis treatments, but a big story hasn’t come out in a while from a 1st world country. A current story of this nature puts England squarely in the spotlight. This case doesn’t center around a 15-year-old sneaking joints in his room, or a college party where everyone is smoking up. While the two above are pretty benign activities compared to other possible teenage exploits, this story centers around a three-year-old boy, who is very, very sick. Isaac has a rare form of the disease epilepsy, called Lujan-Fryns, which causes grand mal seizures in those who have it, and which is so rare that as few as 75 cases exist worldwide. His condition is so extreme, that he cannot walk, talk, or eat without assistance, and he’s been suffering from this condition since around the age of six months. According to his mother, he met not one standard milestone, and his first major seizure happened right before turning two years old. When his condition could not be controlled by at the Hull Royal Infirmary, his case went to specialists at Leeds General Infirmary. It was confirmed in December 2020 that he had the rare form of epilepsy, Lujan-Fryns . ![]() Not only does this child have debilitating seizures, but he has as many as 80 in a single day. Isaac has already been given 13 different pharmaceutical medications to control this condition in his short time alive, but none have been effective. And yet, even despite this dire case, which is understood to be dire by more than one medical facility, no NHS doctor, or private doctor, will write a medical cannabis prescription. Why are sick kids being denied cannabis treatment?Isaac’s mother, Sarah Sugden, has repeatedly tried to get medical cannabis prescribed for her son, but says currently, no clinician will do it. In fact the entirety of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – as in, an entire system of hospitals and medical specialists, refused this service, claiming ‘clear guidelines’ are instituted, and that all consultants had based their decisions on the patient’s needs. This doesn’t make sense though, because cannabis medicines are legal in the UK, and have been since 2018. In fact, the main reason cannabis was legalized in England (and this is true of many countries) is because of its use for medication-resistant epilepsy. Even though many of the standard pharmaceutical medications can have horrifying side effects, cannabis is still only allowed to be given in England, when all other pharmaceutical measures have been used. Apparently in this case, a three-year-old who can’t eat, or physically or mentally progress, and who has been through what I imagine are the top 13 medications, is still considered not a case for treatment. How is this not considered exhausted options? And for epilepsy, the primary reason for legalization. Am I missing something? Kind of seems like the exact specifics for prescribing have been met, so what’s the confusion? The NHS – England’s healthcare system, has only approved a handful of prescriptions for cannabis to children. Yet, when looking the world over, cannabis has actually proven one of the only effective treatments for these disorders in children. Sugden makes a stellar point when she says, “It has worked for hundreds of children in the same situation as Isaac with rare epilepsies. Why not try it?” Seriously, why not? It’s a three-year-old who can’t do anything, and will almost certain die very young. So why isn’t this being tried? And haven’t we heard this story enough times already? Did they really say that? What has the NHS provided as help in this situation? The statement that it would “be inappropriate for the NHS to direct clinicians’ prescribing of unlicensed products.” So basically, the actual health system of the country won’t find a way to get the kid a prescription if it means finding a doctor who will do it. Even worse, the British Paediatric Neurology Association, a producer of guidelines for hospital trusts, goes as far to say that evidence of therapeutic benefit is not sufficient, and there are concerns for developing brains. ![]() I’ll repeat, epilepsy was the reason for medical cannabis legalization in England, and cannabis for epilepsy research is so prevalent, and so positive in benefits provided, that it makes these statements sound incredibly uneducated at best, and criminally negligent at worst. Besides which, being concerned about damaging the brain of a three-year-old who isn’t capable of using it because of his illness, is about the dumbest and most damaging anti-logic I’ve ever heard. Why? Why is this happening in the face of all the positive research, the gravity of the child’s life situation, and in spite of organizations around the world like Mama Cultiva, Realm of Caring, and Cannabis for Children International which all provide so much information specifically about cannabis’s medical benefits for children? How would the government of a 1st world nation be this far behind? (Or how could pharmaceutical interest be so strong, and so accepted, that it would get in the way of saving this life?) Epilepsy Action’s Daniel Jennings puts it this way, “Cannabis is a controlled drug so there is still that stigma around it. We need research urgently.” I get his point in terms of a stigma, but unless I’m all turned around, enough research exists to have changed policy, in England, and all over the world… How much more is needed for a little boy having 80 seizures a day? It seems it’s more important to England that he die. For her part, Sarah Sugden is doing what every mother of a sick kid does, who can’t get their government to care. She’s taking it into her own hands. Sugden so far has collected over 80,000 signatures to petition the government to do something. Hopefully media stories like this one, can help shame England into doing the right thing. What is epilepsy? There’s a reason that epilepsy is a primary reason for medical cannabis legalizations the world over. It’s a horrible condition to have, and an extremely debilitating one, if the story above hasn’t made it apparent. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder where brain electrical activity in the cortex becomes abnormal, or gets interrupted. It causes seizures, as well as abnormal behavior, and periods of unawareness. Seizures can range in magnitude. Some are barely noticeable and involve staring blankly, or what seem like spasms in a part of the body. But some – like grand mal seizures – are extremely intense, with uncontrollable body shaking for long periods. These seizures, aside from possibly causing damage like hitting the head when falling or flailing around, can halt other life functions, including basic things like eating. ![]() The cause of epilepsy is unknown, but can affect anyone, anywhere. The term ‘epilepsy’ itself simply means ‘seizure disorder’, with more specific names like Lujan-Fryns meant to specify a kind of seizure disorder. According to the WHO, worldwide, approximately 50 million people have an epilepsy disorder, and epilepsy disorders were the cause of 125,000 deaths in 2015. Though anyone can get an epileptic disorder, children and the elderly have the highest incidence. This is important to remember, since it’s a child being denied medication, who has one of the very disorders cannabis was legalized for in England. Another similar case in EnglandThis is not the first case to come up, though they are fewer and farther between now that medical cannabis is legal in so many places. Even so, these examples still exist, shining a light on backwards systems, and a horrifying apathy toward sick children. In fact, England was in the news just a few years ago with a scarily similar story. Four years ago, a six-year-old named Alfie, who also has a rare form of epilepsy, was denied help by England’s Home Office, which simply said cannabis ‘cannot be practically prescribed, administered or supplied to the public’. At this time, cannabis had not yet been legalized. And yet, despite the dire situation of a six-year-old, the best the home office would say, was: “We recognise that people with chronic pain and debilitating illnesses are looking to alleviate their symptoms. However, it is important that medicines are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet rigorous standards before being placed on the market, so that doctors and patients are assured of their efficacy, quality and safety. Cannabis is listed as a Schedule 1 drug, as in its raw form it is not recognised in the UK as having any medicinal benefit and is therefore subject to strict control restrictions.” Alfie’s mother countered this by taking her son to Holland for treatment, which reduced seizures by numbers, intensity, and duration. As per his mother, “Alfie has gone from a death sentence to the prospect of a more normal life with school, friends and fun, in his own familiar home. We want the people who have the power to give him this gift to put themselves in the position of Alfie’s family, to think creatively and with open minds and to find a way forward. Above all we want compassion to find a way round inflexible rules.” It should be remembered (or learned) that one of the very first uses of cannabis to make it to the press, was in 1839 by Dr. William O’Shaughnessy, who used a cannabis tincture on a 40-day-old baby girl to quell the extreme seizures that were causing the newborn to waste away. The treatment saved the child’s life. This wasn’t half-way around the world either, but right in that general region, as O’Shaughnessy was from Ireland. It’s been known for almost 200 years that cannabis is an effective treatment for epilepsy. ConclusionThe idea that sick kids are still being denied medical cannabis, even in 1st world countries, is one of the most asinine and pathetic showings of government apathy. Hopefully this case will shame England into expanding its medical cannabis laws, and teaching its doctors to use this as an option. It’s unbearably sad and ridiculous that the outdated opinions of brain-washed medical professionals are keeping kids from getting the treatments they desperately need. Welcome to the site! Such is the case with Legalise Cannabis Australia, a political party aimed at legalizing cannabis, which just made a great showing in the recent Australian elections. What does this mean for the future? And what else does Legalise Cannabis Australia stand for, apart from the obvious? The Legalise Cannabis party of Australia is certainly shaking things up, but does it really have a chance to change things in the country? Please remember, these compounds may not be your first choice, and you should not buy them if you are uncomfortable with using them. What is Legalise Cannabis Australia?Formerly known as the Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) party, the renamed Legalize Cannabis Australia is a political party within Australia’s political spectrum, based out of Nimbin, New South Wales. The party pushes policies for the legalization of cannabis for medical, industrial, and recreational purposes. Founded in 1993 by Neil Quinlan (who ran under the name Nigel Freemarijuana), the party was de-registered as a political party just before the 2007 elections. This was done under the excuse by the Australian Electoral Commission that there was some issue with membership. The group pushed on, and applied again for party registration in early 2010, but delays kept the party from re-establishing itself in time for the 2010 elections. The re-registration finally went through on September 23, 2010. It remained with its original name until September, 2021, when a vote by party members ushered in a change to the new Legalise Cannabis Australia name. Though it now enjoys the ability to grow in popularity with the public, it does exist within a country with virtually a two-party system, which doesn’t generally allow for big gains by other parties. This is similar to the US, which has many political parties, but none that compare to the democrats and republicans in size or power. ![]() That said, Legalise Cannabis Australia has made some inroads, gaining traction in recent elections. In 2013, it received .71% of the senate vote. In the 2019 federal election, the party managed 260,000 votes, and 1.8% of the primary senate vote. Party leader Michael Balderstone ran in the 2020 Eden-Monaro by-election (an election for electing the next parliament member for the Eden-Monaro division of the House of Representatives), and received 2.3% of the votes, which beat out most other minor party candidates. The 2021 Western Australia State Election saw the party’s affiliate Legalise Cannabis WA gain two seats in the Legislative Council. Technically, the biggest showing the party had, was in the 1994 Elizabeth Re-Election in South Australia, when it won 5.37% of the primary vote. The recent Australian electionOn May 21, 2022, Australia held its 2022 federal election for voting in members of the 47th Parliament. All 151 seats of the lower house were up for vote, as well as 40 out of 76 seats of the upper house. Going into the election, the government was held by the Liberal/National Coalition with Prime Minister Scott Morrison at the helm. In this election, the Coalition was beat by its rival, and main opponent, the Labor Party, led by Anthony Albanese. The Coalition, in fact, suffered its greatest loss in terms of seats won, since 1946, and the Labor party picked up the majority. There was a rise in support for the Greens, as well as other minor parties, including Legalise Cannabis Australia. It might have been a landslide win for the Labor party, if not for the increase in support for minor parties. Albanese became the new Prime Minister on May 23rd, 2022. For its part, Legalize Cannabis Australia picked up 2-7% of senate votes in the majority of states and the Northern Territory. In Queensland, the party was 1st choice out of 1 in 17 voters. Though this might not sound like much reason for celebration, it does say something when a party of this nature starts to get attention. In fact, the final senate seat in the senate is still being decided between Legalise Cannabis’s Bernie Bradley and One Nation’s Pauline Hanson. The state of cannabis in AustraliaRecreational cannabis is illegal in Australia on a federal level, but much like the US, it operates both with federal law, and state law. Each state, therefore, has its own cannabis policy. On a federal level, medical cannabis was legalized in 2016. In 2019, the Capital Territory, home of Canberra, legalized recreational use going against federal policy. As of July 31st, 2020, 18-year old residents and older can have up to 50 grams of dry herb (or 150 grams damp), and two plants with a max of four per household. ![]() All other territories hold recreational cannabis possession as illegal, though they all allow for minimized punishments for first offenses or possession within a certain limit. In South Australia, offenders can sometimes walk away with just a fine, so long as possession is less than 100 grams. In Western Australia, under ten grams can warrant only a mandatory counseling session, with fines and jail time for over that amount. In Queensland, being caught with under 50 grams can net just a drug diversion program for a first offense, but otherwise can come with up to 15 years of jail time. New South Wales gives prison sentences and fines for possession, although under 15 grams can mean only a drug diversion program. In Tasmania, cautions are handed out for possession of up to 50 grams, of which an offender can collect three. These cautions come with interventions, referrals, and fines. If you’re caught with less than 50 grams in Victoria, you’ll probably get a caution and an educational program, however only two cautions are issued before larger punishments. In the Northern Territory, up to 50 grams is punished with fines, with other penalties sometimes attached. In all of the territories it’s often left to law enforcement to decide how to handle a case. Will the election change things?Legalise Cannabis Australia, and its ability to gain traction, certainly shows a trajectory in motion. But it takes a bit more than that to shift policy in a country like Australia. For over two years the Capital Territory has been weed-legal, and yet this hasn’t spread to the other territories. On the other hand, the Coalition (a joining of the Australian Liberal Party and the Nationals) which just lost its place, was the more conservative voice when it comes to legalization, pushing for cannabis to remain an illicit drug. Both sides of the coalition are against any further legalization. The Labor party, which just took over, isn’t exactly counter to the Coalition on cannabis. It does support medical legalization, but recreational cannabis is not an issue for the party at the moment. There are some in the party, however, that have started to talk about decriminalization and legalization measures, which is expected, as this is happening everywhere in the world. The third biggest party, the Greens, does support cannabis legalization, but is still a minor group compared to the Labor party and the Coalition, which make up the two central parties in the country. For the most part, the politics in Australia concerning cannabis, run counter to population views. As of 2019, a National Drug Strategy Household Survey found that 66% of those surveyed did not think personal possession of small amounts of cannabis should be a criminal offense. The same survey said that 54% do not approve of regular cannabis use, but what ‘regular use’ is defined as, was not made clear in the write-up. 37% of responders were against legalizing personal use amounts, whereas 41% were for it, and 22% didn’t have an opinion. ![]() What else does the party support? It’s great to have a strong cannabis legalization effort, but when a party specializes in something like legalizing weed, what else should we expect from them? There are, after all, plenty of things to consider in life apart from the cannabis plant. The biggest problem I see with the Legalise Cannabis Australia party growing to the point of making real change, is that it doesn’t advertise policy it cares about, outside of cannabis legalization. To be clear, it offers extensive policy on all aspects of cannabis, from environmental factors, to economic factors, to criminal justice factors, and so on. The party makes a good case for the ability of the cannabis industry to impact different sectors of life, and is expansive in all applications of cannabis, and places of overlap with other policy. But I saw nothing beyond that. If I want to know what its stance is on war policies, or dealing with the issues of poverty and the homeless, I don’t know where that information is. If I want to know what the party pushes in terms of pharmaceutical oversight, healthcare issues, road infrastructure management, or bio-engineering of food, none of that is on the docket. I’m not saying the party doesn’t have a stance on anything else, but if looking through its site, specifically under ‘party policy’ doesn’t lead to it, I have to wonder how useful this party would be at governing a country. Perhaps in the future it’ll be more expressive of its thoughts on policy beyond cannabis. ConclusionIn all reality, Australia wasn’t about to legalize cannabis regardless of who won the election. The two main parties are both not for it, and no other party has enough power. Though this sentiment of keeping it illegal doesn’t go with public opinion, there isn’t yet a powerful enough push by the people to do anything about it. And so, perhaps a party like Legalise Cannabis Australia will gain enough traction for change in the coming years, but for now, cannabis remains federally illegal for the foreseeable future. The post The Legalise Cannabis Australia Party, And 2022 Election Results appeared first on CBD Testers. Via https://cbdtesters.co/2022/06/14/the-legalise-cannabis-australia-party-and-2022-election-results/ Ketamine is in the process of exploding out into one of the most popular pharmaceutical drugs, but the ketamine industry is not like the rest of the pharma world. As a gray market it operates outside of specific regulation, and as such, there are a few ketamine safety issues to be aware of, and ways to avoid them for a safe experience. Ketamine safety issues are something to be aware of when getting into ketamine treatment. This should not dissuade those looking for better treatment options, however. We are an independent publication reporting on the expanding cannabis and psychedelics fields of today. Play along by subscribing to The Cannadelics Weekly Newsletter, and receive your daily dose of industry news, while being first in line for new product promotions. Why are we talking about ketamine? This is a great question, and the answer creates a complicated framework, for which new and unexpected problems have arisen. Ketamine is a synthetically-made dissociative hallucinogen, not to be confused with ‘psychedelics’ which are simply a different genus within the classing of hallucinogens. Dissociative hallucinogens, which also include PCP and DXM, can often be used as anesthetics, and the high they produce is akin to being under anesthesia. In fact, take too much ketamine and you’ll k-hole yourself, essentially putting yourself under anesthesia. The reason the aspect of anesthesia is important, is because anesthetics keep people from feeling pain, which means by nature, ketamine is associated with pain control. The reason the aspect of a hallucinogen is important, is because much like other hallucinogens (MDMA, psilocybin…), ketamine has shown the ability to change the way a person thinks, essentially allowing for new thought processes to be made, which is incredibly important for dealing with psychological issues. This has been exemplified in a study with eating disorder patients, whereby the thought is that ketamine actively blocked the circular thinking behavior related to excitement of the hippocampus by glutamate-NMDA receptors leading to strengthened thinking patterns. After ketamine treatment, the majority of patients decreased or ceased their compulsive thoughts. As such, ketamine works on two fronts, providing a measure for depression, postpartum depression, eating disorders and other similar issues, as well as a way to control pain issues. Whereas monoamine antidepressants repeatedly fall short, ketamine seems to give better results, and whereas opioids cause mass addiction and overdose issues, ketamine is not related to either of these things. Both official research, and the existence and proliferation of the ketamine industry, both point to ketamine providing a better answer to these two issues. ![]() The thing is, ketamine was never approved for these things. It’s half-brother esketamine was legalized only for treatment-resistant depression, but ketamine remains officially approved as just an anesthetic. The way it exists in the growing number of clinics providing ketamine treatment, is as an off-label medication, legally prescribed by a doctor for uses not officially approved by the FDA. This ability for off-label prescribing is the basis for the ketamine loophole, and the existence of this growing ketamine industry. Is ketamine safe? There are different ways to measure safety, and different concerns that can cause safety issues. One of the best measures is in death and injury. For all the government does to ignore it, ketamine has no real death toll. This isn’t to say that there has never been a problem, but these problems are so few and far between, that they don’t really register. Go ahead…do a search for ketamine death numbers. You won’t find any. In fact, the most you’ll find, are numbers of deaths where ketamine was involved, but the problem here, is that these are cases where other things were also involved, like opioids, or cocaine. Even if you buy into the fear of it, you’re still going to have a difficult time finding those overdose death numbers. But where you won’t have that problem, is with opioids, the main medications used to treat pain issues. In fact, the numbers are so grossly huge, we now call it an ‘opioid epidemic’. Recent CDC numbers approximated 2021 overdoses at over 100,000, and this insanely large number owes most of its growth to the ballooning opioids industry. In 2020, for example, out of around 93,000 overdose deaths, nearly 70,000 were from opioids. So is ketamine safe? Yes, especially in comparison to any of the drugs that make up that overdose list, because ketamine isn’t one of them. But it’s also not a drug pushed by the companies in the ‘Big Pharma’ grouping, which make up the largest and most powerful pharmaceutical companies, and the ones that pay out big bucks to government representatives. Ketamine can be made by any pharma company, and in plenty of random basements, and this means Big Pharma companies don’t make money off it, and therefore aren’t going to put money in representatives’ pockets for it. Where do they make their money? Opioids. How nice for them that these drugs are so addictive, and that the government is so partial to anyone willing to pay out. So, who has died from ketamine? While some publications like to spout the oft said line that we don’t have much information on long-term use, or that we don’t know about certain effects, these lines are completely untrue. In terms of pain, it was established in the 1960’s during prisoner studies, that ketamine was especially good for pain, so much so that it was consequently used for soldiers in the Vietnam war. It’s also been a big player in the recreational game since the 1980’s, so there is plenty that can be gathered from users going back to that time. If nothing much is said about damage from long term use, its likely because there’s nothing to report on. When looking at opioids, cocaine, or methamphetamine, for example, health issues from long-term use are easily found. ![]() This is all exemplified by China, where there are plenty of articles shouting about a ketamine issue, but a reality of literally no direct death count, with the very few deaths (out of over a billion, let’s remember) also being associated with other drugs. It sounds like ketamine has grown in popularity in China, but anyone clamoring on about it causing mass safety issues, isn’t looking at the facts. There are a couple other things written about bladder issues with extreme use, but not only is extreme use of anything generally related to something uncomfortable, but the existence of this complaint is so sparse, and the examples so few, that it starts to sound more like a smear campaign than anything else. This study from Australia is also harping on ketamine as unsafe, but when looking more closely, this is nothing but a farce. 95% of deaths spoken of, involved other drugs, nearly 60% of which were opioids. Hypnosedatives were in the blood of 57.6%, psychostimulants were also used by 50.0%, and alcohol was present for 27.3%. Almost 29% had regular antidepressants in their system as well. Also worth mentioning, over 82% had pulmonary edema, and almost 27% had pneumonia. So it’s not really about ketamine in the end, and the idea that the title of the study is headlined Characteristics and circumstances of death related to the self-administration of ketamine, is a joke at best. Ketamine safety issuesSo, sure, ketamine is technically safe. But it doesn’t mean that ketamine doesn’t have safety issues to consider, especially considering the industry itself. And it’s the tactics of the industry, where prospective users should be careful.
![]() How to avoid ketamine safety issuesThe best way to avoid these issues, is to only use a service that requires in-patient treatment. In-patient treatment means that the ketamine is given via IV injection, so the dose is much more refined for the specific patient, and there is less of an issue with giving too much. Plus, as it doesn’t require going through the body, it means that dosing is consistent across treatments, without worrying about other factors changing how much gets absorbed. Going to in-patient treatment facilities also gets rid of the fear of danger when being put in a state of lessened response. If a person is made high to the point of a k-hole, they cannot control what happens to them, or who could hurt them. Even though many people take the oral dosage in their home, this doesn’t always rule out danger. Being in a medical setting gives an extra layer of protection to ensure that nothing bad happens to a patient when under the influence. As with any drug, there can be adverse effects, or unexpected circumstances. Being in a medical setting means having trained professionals right there that can assist. While there are plenty of decent clinics to choose from, examples like Pasithea represent the highest level of care offered, the most adherence to safety policies, and a general lack of the behavior seen by unscrupulous companies that promote these safety issues. Prospective patients should do their homework and only use a clinic that values their personal safety. As with any industry that has a seedy side, it’s important for customers to know who they’re dealing with. Clinics that cut corners represent the shadier side of this industry, and show a greater level of apathy towards their clientele. Clinics that adhere to as many general safety practices as possible – even if they’re not technically required to, represent the higher end, and are the safer companies to work with. These treatments can be expensive, so it’s no wonder that consumers often head toward a cheaper option. Hopefully costs will come down eventually, so that those who want this treatment, but can’t afford a better clinic, won’t be pushed to using unsafe practitioners. Ketamine holds a lot of value, but like anything else, it should be administered and used responsibly. ConclusionKetamine might provide a safe answer for dealing with psychological disorders and pain, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t come without issues. There are plenty of ketamine safety issues to consider, but luckily, simply using the right provider can dispel the majority. Hello, thanks for stopping by!
